The thing is I think "banging the door down" is dependent on who the incumbents are as much as it's dependent on performance. It's just archaic at best and disingenuous at worst to pretend people need to earn their stripes by dramatically outperforming what the incumbents ever did before replacing them in the Test team, especially when they go ahead and select Labuschagne.Langer is a goose but he's not wrong really. I'd be happy for them to pick Wade but let's not act as if half a season averaging over 50 is banging the door down.
My real problem is the constant picking of players who already have a long history of failure, I.e. the Marsh brothers.

Langer isn't using "banging the door down" as a legitimate argument, he's using it to obfuscate what his actual selection criteria is.

On another note, his whinging about the press talk is a bit rich given his own pro-Bancroft media campaign back before he was coach.

In the past 17 matches he's averaged 51. Has over 1000 runs at 63 this year (which is the fifth highestin the world this year of the top 50 run getters).Langer is a goose but he's not wrong really. I'd be happy for them to pick Wade but let's not act as if half a season averaging over 50 is banging the door down.

It seems to me that Langer is overlooking certain players without giving any real justification. In my opinion he seems full of hot air, with Hohns pulling all the selection strings. How on earth Labuschagne is even in contention is baffling. Test cricket in this country is about to fall off a cliff and it's due to not picking our best team, but looking for a magic bullet. Everything is a mess right now, and the Labuschagne squad inclusion verifies it, as does the go to of M Marsh for the MCG test.Well yeah, that's the problem too. You can't justify a single selection this series (outside incumbents) based on their domestic form and yet now it becomes the sole factor according to Langer.
As I said, my issue is with the continued selections of proven failures. We've wasted so many tests on Mitch Marsh now.
You sound as stupid as Langer saying there’s nobody banging down the door ffs. He hasn’t been averaging over 50 for half a season ffs. Averaged 50 in last years shield season and is averaging 63 in the current season. Given this current generations batting woes, he hasn’t banged down the door. He’s blown a ****ing hole in the wall and created his own entrance.Langer is a goose but he's not wrong really. I'd be happy for them to pick Wade but let's not act as if half a season averaging over 50 is banging the door down.
Cartwright is liable to being dropped from the WA side at the moment. Not even averaging 30 over the past 2 Shield seasons.1. Burns
2. Harris
3. Khawaja
4. Wade
5. Patterson
6. Maxwell
7. Paine
8. Cummins
9. Lyon
10. Starc
11. Hazelwood
In - Burns, Wade, Patterson, Maxwell.
Out - Finch, S Marsh, Head, M Marsh
Extended squad - Cartwright, Renshaw, C White, Coulter-Nile
Burns - Deserves his chance again at test level in his current form. Also at test level has 7 scores of 50 and above in 14 tests.
Wade - Right now, our best no.4 choice given his form and also form in shield cricket over several years now
Patterson - Since 2015 has a shield average of 47
Maxwell - Since 2015 has a shield average of 44
Cartwright - Why pick M Marsh as an allrounder when Cartwright averages 47 in Shield cricket since 2015? M Marsh averages 9.9 in his last 13 tests.
Renshaw - Another strong shield performer but out of form right now. Needs to be in test contention as is a very good cricketer and Harris needs someone on his tail
C White - Why he has not been considered is a disgrace. A constant shield performer.
Coulter - Nile - Probably our best back up pace bowling option
He averaged 44 last season. You sound as stupid as Langer saying there’s nobody banging down the door ffs. He hasn’t been averaging over 50 for half a season ffs. Same shit. Averaged 63 for the 2018 calendar year with 4 100’s and 6 50’s. Anybody who thinks Wade hasn’t well and truly earned the right to a recall has absolutely zero clue, and probably would fit right in on the current board of selectors. He averaged 44 last season.
Is there a single player you actually rate in the Australian team? He's made the most runs. Get over it.I find it galling that Travis Head is the highest run scorer for Australia. Has some ability and shows that he can build an innings, but just can't help himself playing the most ridiculous shots. Some of those innings he has played are pure fluke luck, nicks and chunky outside edges beating fielders all the time, and constantly playing the ball in the air.

Overstating how he’s going?Yikes, settle down. Like I said, I'm happy for them to pick Wade. I'd certainly rather him than Finch, Marsh or Labuschagagagagane.
But you're way overstating what Wade is doing. Guess it goes to show how low the standards have gotten.
Mitch was getting advice from Scummo yesterday, that's a pair and 0/100 all but guaranteed.
I wouldn't be adverse to giving him one last go but let's face face it Wade completely wasted the last chance he was gifted in the Test team, batted like absolute shit. As with Maxwell we aren't leaving out ****in Dean Jones here.
Sure I do, but depending on Head is like depending on Wade when he last played. You may as well throw the bat to 44 year old Ponting and you're guaranteed more runs.Is there a single player you actually rate in the Australian team? He's made the most runs. Get over it.
Same with Smarsh. Made the second most runs last test yet you still criticise him. Get over it.
Who’s to say Wade would average 28 again if given a recall? He never produced these kinds of numbers in shield cricket when he was originally in the side. He’s in career best form and no longer has the burden of wicketkeeping if called up to the test side, so it’s not crazy to think he’d score above that current test average consistently.
Hand on heart zero complains from me if either (particularly Maxwell) get picked but the hysteria over them missing out is laughable, I suppose this is what you get when half this board are Bushranger fanboys.Same thoughts. Look both would be better than Marsh but jeez we aren’t leaving out some exceptional player really. Wade averaged what 28 in test cricket..I bag Marsh and he averages 24! What’s the difference. Maxwell might deserve a chance but I question whether I want him coming in at 4/80.
Sounds like you haven’t watched him in shield cricket at all in the last 12 months.
