At the risk of potentially sending the other broadcasting deal thread on an alternative tangent and losing track of the original point I have made a new thread for this discussion.

Disclaimer: I am simply taking the devils advocate role in this discussion simply to ask a question so please don’t jump up and down on me.

This has nothing to do with the new deal that should officially be announced latter on in the week but more to do with geographical placement and demographic entitlements.

Why are the two South Australian and Western Australian teams lucky enough and entitled to free to air broadcasting of games when the eastern States clubs and supporters have to deal with the perils of pay television?

Why shouldn’t it be based on an equal opportunity system for games and judge those games on rating system?

Because we don't have 10 teams in SA and we don't have 17 games a year where we can see our teams play.

financially vic clubs are that bad off that losing memberships as a result of bums on armchairs rather than seats at the ground would signal mass repercussions for them and funnily enough us.

That point is only relevant if you are referring to away games. If you are using it to justify why home games should be on FTA then that argument is invalid.

Theres two main issues that affect Port in all of this:

1) Potentially more people could attend our games as a percentage of people without Foxtel will go to the game so they can see it

2) Potentially less people could attend our games, especially in poor weather if these games are shown live into Adelaide.

Im a firm believer that home games should not be shown live unless its a sell out. I believe the recent 20 minute delay is far too short for home games and it should go back to the old Channel 7 system of a 2 hour delay.

Numbers currently do not support a dwindling of crowd ...unless as you say there is bad weather ....but given from a Crows perspective that the seats have already been sold as memberships that choice on a bad night will be made anyway with a FTA delayed telecast.

If you have paid your membership you'll go ....if you want to watch it live on Foxtel Iam sure there is a long membership line ....well at the Crows anyway ;)

Agree - I think there's no question that this has been an issue with AFC games and gate sizes

Because...

well there is no good reason. backdated justification, is just that. we have no greater right than anyone else, just fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of an anomaly.

yep.....:thumbsu:

but some are willing to go to war over it and throw rocks at the AFL, 7, 10, and Foxtel.

we've been very fortunate until now
