News Fraser at Gold Coast

After missing out on a premiership at Collingwood, ruckman Josh Fraser wants to help nurture the Gold Coast kids.
ONE OF Josh Fraser's first duties in a Gold Coast shirt was to meet his new club's sponsors at a function on the night of last month's draft. He hadn't started training, hardly knew anyone and, even at the age of 28, he felt a bit nervous.
For much of 2010, though, Fraser had gone to football functions and been told by supporters why he wasn't in the Collingwood team, what he was doing wrong and what he needed to do to get back. They meant well, but it made a long, frustrating season harder to dislodge from his head. Immediately, though, Fraser could sense that his new club would be a completely different place. On this night, people didn't try to tell him things. Instead, they all wanted to ask questions.

That does not look Right

I have no problems with it.

Fraser had run his race at Collingwood, it just happens to player sometimes, that they run out of time with a club, and that a change is needed for both parties.

Josh is one of the very few players to leave Collingwood that I wish all the best too, he deserves more success, and I hope he's getting a decent pay cheque up on the GC.

Best of luck Josh, you served us well for 11 seasons.:thumbsu:

Wish him all the best.

Carried our ruck division solo for over a decade where we basically ran his body into the ground and didn't get him any help.

Loyal servant, I'll always remember him as one of us.

Always had a soft spot for him. His finals performances were ridiculously good, and if he was fit in 2007 at the pointy end we'd have another flag in the cupboard.

I wish him all the best, he was a great servant of the club and a really good player in his prime, but every quote I read from him since he's left makes me think he really didn't realise what a woeful season he had. He was absolutely terrible all year and if he wants to play more than a handful of games with Gold Coast he'll really have to improve a lot.

Fraser reminds me in some way of Len Thomspon who carried our rucks for his entire career although Thommo was a better man with a brownlow to prove it I for one won't deride a guy that gave everything he had.
Cheers Fraze and good luck as others have said carried our rucks on his own for far too long and is now paying the price.

He finished dead last in the Suns first time trial.

I'm sure Jolly will be shaking in his boots when he first comes up against Fraser. Thats if he's even playing seniors. Young Zac Smith is a gun.

Thats the thing that always gets me about Big Footy. People find something interesting in the newspapers or they have seen something and then they give one sentence comment here...

Fraser didnt train up until the draft.
Fraser last in time trial

Could you please include the link to your information so I can read about it? Thanks

He was unfairly maligned at times by our supporters.

Too true, it happens with certain Collingwood players unfortunately. Sav, Pebbles, Travis Cloke and Taz all unfairly cop(ped) the same sort of criticism as Josh did by many supporters, both Collingwood and opposition.
Josh's only crime was being picked at #1 in the draft, without being literally as good as someone like Len Thompson he was never going to live up to it. Being battered around with little backup didn't help his cause.

Good luck to him

Josh seems to be a really good bloke but a few people need to remove the rose coloured glasses.. Josh was not picked in our seniors for most of this year because he did not give everything he had. How soon we forget Josh's half hearted tackling attempts, failure to run in straight lines and laziness eg. the Melbourne game which sealed his fate. Steve Mckee was less talented than Josh but I would happily say he gave his all at all times. Josh had his moments but always left me feeling he wasn't prepared to put his body on the line when it mattered.

I hope he thrives on the Gold Coast and I did feel for him on GF day-but he only had himself to blame.

Some people need to take a longer view of the game - how long did he play? How long did he carry the ruck division alone with a body not entirely suited to first ruck? Yes this final year his efforts have been below par but I won't belittle his efforts over the years because of that.
He was moved on and this was deserved but that doesn't negate his years of service to the club.

He carried the ruck as he repeatedly stated to Malthouse that he was a ruckman, Malthouse suggested a move to spend more time in the forward line 5 years ago, to give his frail body some respite, alas Josh stated he is a bona fide Ruckman and not a forward!, Good luck in your after life .
You have more joy on your face in That G.C jumper photo than you did on the ground after Collingwood won their 15th Premiership.

Use to like him , but that queens bday match really showed us what hes made of, got monstered by jamar and late in the match, left jamar unmarked, and he kicked a crucial goal, had to go , Jolly and leroy do a great job, why change it.. and also where the hell is woood??

looks like he's bulked up

Must be finally off the peas, and onto the carbs!, also the G.C sponsored suntan always magnifies limbs size.
Look at say an Afro American body physique against an anglosaxon of the same proportions and the darker skin always looks bigger and better to the naked eye!

LOL...i'm assuming you're tongue in cheek here!

Oops if you're not!!

I'm ambivalent re Josh..was a big fan early...last couple of years, just seemed to have no passion or enthusiasm, well it looked like that to an outsider.

I used to wish he'd at least look like he gave a shit, or encourage some of the younger guys, or show some leadership or something!!

But 200 games is an achievement for sure and he didn't really have the body to play ruck...that picture, he looks like a loving, gentle kindy teacher waiting for the littlies to come out after playlunch FFS.

Hope he goes well at GC, will watch with great interest, but TBH will be (very pleasantly) surprised if he does.

And yes, he does look happier there than after our 15th flag, but it must be REALLY hard on the guys who play for ten years and miss the glory at the end.

Even Presti and Tarks, the ultimate clubmen, could barely raise a cheery smile after the game, or in the stands when things were looking home and hosed.

One last time for old time sake...let's go through all those reasons that we didnt like Josh...but wait!...there's a new one

And I'm sure Josh was the reason why Luke Ball wasnt grinning just after the siren went.... add that one to the list..

I believe it was Josh who fronted Mick and had a go about the fact we "Never talk about winning the Premiership".
The club took it on board, talked openly about it, publicly announced it this year and lo and behold we've got a Cup.

There was plenty of passion in Fraser, he just has that laconic, deadpan face. Another player I really admired had the same disposition...Presti.

Thanks Pie Eyed, I'm reassured you think he had the passion.

I was mainly intimating that he could have demonstrated it more, to his teammates, to the opposition in a tight tussles...his body language was not great. Wood's is very similar...I hope that gets worked on a bit.

I think you're spot on though, he's just one of life's laconic guys.

But, the aura created by strong, positive body language is something I think team leaders should spread to the younger guys and Fraser didn't do that, that's my 'grudge'.

Not a good look when your 'biggest guy', your ruckman, is quietly wandering around with a passive expressionless face, esp not when the game's up for grabs.

Maxy and Harry are the current masters of the right body language IMO.
Lenny Hayes, Goddard, Scarlett, Hodge from other teams spring to mind.

If we are looking for all avenues of improvement, as we should be, a few lessons in this from an expert, would be worthwhile.

Clokey could have more, Caff same, Wood definitely, Dawes is developing it, Sidey, only a kid, has it.
