JOSH Fraser's fight for his football life has suffered another untimely setback.
After being left out of last week's clash with Geelong, the Collingwood veteran has broken down at training.
Fraser rolled his ankle near the end of the club's main training session on Wednesday and is likely to miss at least two more weeks.
The latest injury is a major blow for the 28-year-old, who is desperate to resurrect his career against the winds of change at the club.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu great. hopefully he won't be out for too long. :(

We need him, lucky we have back-up Wood in the squad doing Ok.

We need him? For what? To put pressure on Wood to keep his spot? He's not that important. Hopefully he has a swift recovery, it's always nice to have depth and players in the wings, but it's not like this is a massive blow.

At least 2 weeks with a rolled ankle? More injury spin from the club.
I'm assuming one of those weeks is this weekend, so I can understand the 2 week comment.

Either way, we won't be seeing Josh in the seniors till after the break at earliest.

I still think he makes more of an impact on games than Wood, Wood's still handy tho but much prefer Fraser in the squad. Fraser and Jolly spending time in the forward this year has been a success for us.

I have no dramas here. Wood needs game-time to get his confidence. Remember he had an interrupted pre-season, so he is still very much finding his touch. Wood needs a month of solid footy like Reid and Brown have got. Look how far they've come in this time.

josh is still critical to our cause. Typically, Josh always falls down come finals. Atleast this year he will be pretty fresh. We need Josh in the finals. I will feel much more comfortable with a ruck division consisting of Jolly and Fraser in the big games.

Big opportunity however now for Wood. If he doesn't take his chance now, he won't come into finals contention.

Sorry to see fraser like this has been a great player at our club but i think his time at the pies may be close to the end...:(

Dont get me wrong, great player, great servant, but i think a trade at years end could be a good thing for both parties....

Say we trade him to gc-He was a No 1 pick
-10 years at club
-experienced ruckmen

With the compensation the afl is offering On those 3 points alone i think this would work in our favour, especially with the compromised drafts, just depends if gc would want him...

And he would have some extra $$$$ when he retires...

Come finals time we need to go into the finals with Jolly and Fraser.

Wood has been out with injury and also needs to be fast tracked.Similar to how we persevere with Reid and Brown. With another month of footy under his belt Wood will improve.

He can start with tommorrow night against his old club Brisbane.See how he and jolly go up against Leueumberger and Mtich Clark.

He's definitely important to our team. Rucks aren't like mids where there are 3-4 waiting in the wings and road ready. Three rucks is the bare minimum and he needs to be fresh as he can be.

Wood will only benefit from more game time. If he doesn't improve I'd be surprised. People have to realise that we need to sink a chunk of time into Wood so he is ready. Who knows how long Fraser has to go, but it will certainly be shortened by playing him consistently as 2nd ruck.

If Fraser was to retire / keep breaking down and Wood has not had a decent run, he may well seek a trade to Port / Hawks or will not be ready to roll.

I don't want us spending two more years of early draft picks trying to pick up (qausi) established rucks.

Plenty of support for Cameron Wood in the forum...which is good to see .. I hope people are right that he is going to be better in a month. I hope you guys come back and give an update on your feelings about Cam.

All I know is that I've been reading comments for the past year that Fraser should be traded. I'm still not convinced that Cam has arrived. He showed a few good moves against Freo and I couldnt tell you what he did against Geelong because I didnt see him - although I watched the game from start to finish..

Personally, I want Fraser to be in the side at the end of the year if his form demands it.

I think an honest assessment at this point in time is to say neither Wood nor Fraser are setting the world on fire.

We all know Fraser isn't about to lift his game to another level at this stage of his career and hope he isn't on the steep side of a downward curve. If he's going to be ready at the business end, then he needs to be carefully managed - there's no two ways about it.

The benefit of that policy is that Wood has time to develop. Wood may or may not develop further, but at this point of the year is comparable to Fraser in performances given. I suspect he'll keep improving but the trade off isn't huge in terms of keeping him in.

It's clear what you are going to get from Fraser, but not yet from Wood. Might be 6 years into his career, but has not had much of a run in that time and is still only 23.

Just like it was for Ben Johnson.:o:p

That is a fine peace of work

(and I'm improving my spelling too)

We all .......... hope he isn't on the steep side of a downward curve.

Actually I think there are many who love the thought of Josh being a downhill skiier..

Rolled ankle is nothing, 2 week injury max. that can happen to anyone at any age. Another player we can easily absorb with our depth and just keep on rolling on.

Hope he is fit and in form from about round 15 onwards because his finals performances have been outstanding and we need him at the business end.

Disagree.

Wood has been hopeless, and is 23 and injury free.

Fraser is 28 and has injury troubles, we have seen what he can do when injury free and it is far far far better than anything Wood has ever dished up, especially now they are competing for the backup role.

Fraser, IF he can get fit, will be crucial to our side. This rolled ankle is a blessing in disguise in my book, as its just an extra 2 weeks rest for only a minor issue.

Fraser would be in the side this week if he didn't roll his ankle.

Wood has at least two weeks to extract his finger from his ass or he will lose his spot, lets not pretend Fraser is no chance to return especially with Wood's current form

Josh is still very important to our finals prospects. No harm getting game time into Wood atm, good for the future, but we need a fit and firing Fraser in finals.

I've got no problem with form being the indicator but to date in 2010, Fraser has been injury free and ordinary.
