Freak injuries

What are the freakiest injuries you can think of?

It can be the type of injury or the way the player was injured.

From my club two that spring to mind are Dustin Fletcher and Michael Long.

Flether broke his own foot when he was running and tripped over/kicked himself.

Michael Long's would have to be one of the freakiest injuries i've seen. Set shot for goal, no more than 35m-40m out, straight in front. As he is just about to kick the ball he slipped and fell over. The ball sailed through for a goal but he stayed on the ground in agony. Did his knee and had to have a full reconstruction. I was at that game and it was very surreal.

Another one that was a bit crazy was Shaun Rehn doing his knee on those metal plates in the ground they trialled at centre bounces

Hird's face getting caved in and Nathan Brown's leg beind destroyed are one's I remember vividly.

Ended his season, after which he was delisted.

IIRC, he had just taken the mark when his ankle just snapped.

The image of him screaming with his ankle all twisted is really terrible.

What about the guy from North, was it Josh Gibson?

Fell over in the bathroom whilst taking a piss and missed half a season.

Stewy Loewe vs. Freo @ Subiaco, maybe a decade or so ago?

This is quite hard to describe, but in a marking contest on a flank by the 50m line, spoiler hits him in the back of the head, dazing him, semi-conscious he lands awkwardly on his leg as he falls straight down in a sort of sitting position wrenching his knee, his head then comes forward and headbutts said knee, drawing blood.

A seminal 'lol wut' moment.

Doc Wheildon broke his leg after being hit by a taxi in King Street if I remember correctly.

Also remember an English soccer player breaking his arm after his teammates dropped him during celebrations.
