Autopsy Frees in Port and other games

No it isn't. Rugby union is faaaaar harder to umpire as there is a penalty at every bloody breakdown.

The only thing that makes footy hard to umpire is that each umpire can have their own interpretation of some rules.
(I umpire every week atm).

Never umpired rugby, but the hardest sport I've refereed in is by far netball. Especially mixed netball, it turns into a football game with a contest every 3 seconds!

Football IMO isnt actually that difficult, I think most people would find that they only think its hard due to their own bias's and being generally unaware of what is actually happening on a field. Generally the AFL guys do an awesome job, watching the crows game tonight and have barely seen a mistake. Last friday wasn't brilliant, but they're only human.

What league you umpiring in Welshy?

I'll put it out there; this has been up there with the worst umpiring that I've ever seen.

Blatantly obvious that the umpires/AFL want Carlton to win.

- The Armfield double chance advantage goal
- Hartlett's kick being marked by an ump on the wing, robbed of possession
- The 'sling' paid against Westhoff in the square
- Worse happens to Boak 5 minutes later = play on
- Henderson's "mark" for his last goal clearly hits the ground
- Colquhoun robbed of possession after he's initially paid a mark. We were still in possession, nah soz I'll bounce it.

I'm sure there were more I've forgotten.

What a stitch-up.

I do agree that we got shafted today but I hate threads like this since it will ignore what is really important.

Ken in 2013 and 2014 wouldn't have used umpiring as an excuse, even if the free kick number was 0-50. If he starts doing it now then I will for the first time question him as a senior coach.

I'll agree the umpires gave Port a good fisting today but this was hammers fault for shanking it straight into him.
Even so, why is the umpire standing 5 metres away when he's already set the mark and Harlett's about to take his kick? Umpire certainly should've backed off to about 15 metres away by that stage.

The Boak one shat me - he was also legged then pinged for HTB. There was also a Carlton mark on the wing that was clearly dropped but paid a mark late in the last. There were so many missed frees that should have gone to Port in the last quarter it was criminal and comical. We played shit anyway but God damn that was terrible umpiring.

Worse than that, it was out on the full, why was the umpire running into the zone hamish would be kicking into to bring the footy back into play, run down the line for christs sake

Fair call. It's extremely hard to shake the feeling when you've just been robbed, memories of the 2012 prelim still haunt me.

24-10. I'm not sure we got a free in the last Q, despite dominating for 75-80% of it.

You wouldn't mind, but Carlton's crowd clearly got them over the line with the officiating.

At Adelaide Oval it's the polar opposite, they seem intent to umpire against us so as not to be seen to be swayed by HGA.

Had the umpiring been fair, would we have won? Maybe, but it doesn't matter.

To allow ourselves to be in that situation against Carlton is simply not good enough.

We played like absolute shit and everything must be questioned, from Hinkley to Burgess to gameplan to the players to whether there's something going on behind the scenes because I've never seen certain individuals look less enthused about footy.

But all our troubles aside, we did nothing to deserve the predictable reaming we received from Nicholls and his henchmen today.

That was well beyond "sometimes you don't get the rub of the green" to "I have never seen that before, what is going on".

If today's officiating is reversed we win by 8 goals.

Don't forget the mark paid to Rowe leading up out of fifty to the wing near boundary. Hit his hands and bounced straight off them. Didn't even hold the ball at all. Would have been a fifty fifty contest on a wing or might have gone out of bounds I think , instead paid as a mark and if I remember they kicked a goal from that .

Then monfries standing under the flight of the ball and Simpson comes over and knocks him over without contesting the ball , in fact it was a good ten seconds before the ball came down. That's always paid.

Like many others, I view their AFL "Whistle Blowers" segment where so called contentious (non) frees are given/interpreted. Whenever an umpire makes an error, the response is a 'gee gosh shucks'. Perhaps supporters should demand the full and frank assessment of all AFL umpires be made public, in similar vein as games and players.

Way too much secrecy from the umpiring department. Not acceptable.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Eddie and Collingwood have never been afraid to make huge noises over the treatment of Cloke - we were content to allow Tredders to be ridden like a packhorse for 10 years.

Is there some moral highground/stoic silence premiership we're trying to win?

I agree the club needs to publicly demand answers from the AFL... make it an issue and make the AFL accountable... If the AFL refuses to publicly provide answers shame them!

No argument from this old soul who perhaps opened the bar a wee too early...................but enough is enough. something has to be said............................and very loudly by the PAFC.

the hoon mark was an absolute disgrace, why the heck should you lose possession when you still have the ball? na lets bounce it because we made a mistake and we'll make you pay the price. this game isn't about fairness it's about making the afl money. Im sure you'll see another 10k extra supporters at carltscums next game.
