The block on Lobbe frustrated me more then the Hoons no mark in the same play. the ball up Lobbe was blocked out by a midfielder not looking at the ball but was just there to make front on contact with lobbe. how that was missed but i slight touched can be seen 100 meters away gets to me

I'm gonna say it, the majority of those are things that occur in every game that every supporter gets upset at. There were a couple of dodgy ones (Hartletts spoil, Wingard chopping arms, double free kick to Armfield) but that would be it.
What about the tap to Pittard's foot .. I remember the St Kilda game where he got a free for that geez

Nah, sorry Macca but I think you are wrong on this occasion. Bloody terrible umpiring, in fact some of the worst that I have ever seen. No excuses for so many poor decisions that miracously seemed to go against us.

Good video highlighting the cheating on display on Saturday afternoon

That is ****ing disgusting and just makes me even angrier seeing it all again.

Seriously when that shit is happening Hinkley needs to walk out onto the ground call the boys in and walk off in protest.
If the AFL isn't going to take the issue of biased deliberate bullshit umpiring seriously, then someone needs to do something drastic to get their attention and publicly force the issue.

This was recently brought to my attention.

Prior to Boak's HTB/throw in front of goal with 45 seconds to go.

Left hand below the knee. Trip? Nah lol.

While you're correct in saying it should've been a trip, Boak should've handballed the ball away rather than having a whinge to the umpire to prevent the HTB call against him. That was a bad moment from Travis.

I think we did that in the third quarter, didn't we?

every one in the footy world is held accountable. players get dropped delisted, coaches get sacked, hell even commentators get fined if they step out of line.
Now what about umpires? Their boss has come out and said it wasnt up to scratch, now what? do they get dropped a few weeks etc?

In that case, the holding the ball was paid before the trip occured, or at least thats what it seemed like at the ground. He held it for an eternity.

You know the answer to this... nothing

Umpires are protected species. Players, coaches, club staff, commentators, media... no one is allowed to say a bad word about the umpires for risk of either a fine or a please explain. They cant or wont be held accountable.

I took note at our home game vs Geelong at the breaks all they cared about what practising their centre bouncing and back slapping each other about how great they are.

They simply dont give a **** because there is no fear of reprisal

Nah, watch the replay, you get a better feel for that sort of thing when you can hear the umpire mic. Boak was tripped, he went to ground with the ball still in his hands, he remonstrated with the umpire about the lack of a free (while I was screaming and swearing my head off at him to get rid of it before he gets pinged) and then the umpire blew the whistle and called HTB.

Missed that Trengove front on contact in the first quarter in the goal square that Carlton scored from.. Happened before that Hartlett one that he actually got the ball!

It's probably different being at the ground than watching it on the tele. This game wasn't just poorly umpired, it's gross incompetence to the point of match fixing.

I'm not sure who posted it, but they're right - we cop these sort of games once every 2-3 years.

I think he actually had enough at the inconsistency. It shows it must have really been noticeable.

I'd love our club to come out and ask for a please explain and advise they are putting a video together like the one early wanting explanations.

It's not good enough. Even poor umpiring position isn't good enough. We are being reamed. The Geelong game wasn't much better.

Have I walked into the Crows board by accident! :p

Not every time we lose is because of poor umpiring. Every clubs supporters think they get a rough trot on almost a weekly basis. Plenty of games where we've been considered to have had a golden run with it in a close one. Vs St Kilda in 2013 for example.

i hate blaming umpiring. Im certainly not blaming the umpires for how shit we have become.
Poor umpiring doesnt cause us to not be able to stick tackles, hit a target, chase, back up teammates etc

but... that doesnt mean the terrible officiating of the game should be overlooked

Yes it was.

the same can be said about the WCE game. We were reamed hard that game too

No it can't.

You weaken your own argument when you start comparing games like the sustained 4 quarter highway robbery that occurred at the MCG on Saturday to every other game where we occasionally got the rough end of the stick with a few poor decisions.

Just FYI, there is an umpiring squad of around 33-34, the best 27 each week will get picked, there is a good chance one of these umpires will not umpire this coming weekend. At the end of the year, there are almost always 3-4 who will get dropped (last year 2 I believe).

Saying umpires are a protected species is ridiculously unfair. Go to any football match, supporters will say some of the worst things about umpires that I have ever heard in my life. The language and abuse to often foul. Even on this thread you can read back and see some of the vile things said. Yet, have you ever seen a moderator on this site warn someone or ban someone for abusing another human being in that matter? Have you ever seen a a security guard evict someone for it? Turn the umpire into Adam Goodes however, and the world makes it into WW3.

Even on this bigfooty podcast, I have heard the presenters use language which borders on defamation, if they said some of things they say about umpires at players, the club would be all over them. Do umpires really care about all this? Probably not, but maybe a little, however calling them a protected species is miles from the truth.

They certainly aren't protected from the fans, but they are absolutely from the clubs.
Coaches and players know that they can't even hint at negativity towards the umps otherwise they'll get a hefty fine coming their way.
The umpiring saturday isn't the reason we lost, we played like shit, but it did absolutely cost us the win. They're two separate points. Clubs should be able to question the diabolical standard of umpiring.

I get you're more annoyed at the players because you spent your hard-earned and time actually going over to watch the dross they put up, but that doesn't change the fact we were given one of the all-time great reamings.

This wasn't "gee we were a bit stiff at times weren't we" (a la the Geelong game), where you can accept we still would've lost. This was a clear scoreboard impacting shitshow from beginning to end, a la 38-15 and Essendon '11.

I think you will find they do. After the 3800v15 free kick count from last year I know the club definitely did ask some questions, and got responses. Not sure if theyll do it this week, but they are more the entitled to do it, and often do. Its true they arent allowed to do it in the media, but most coaches try to avoid it anyway so they dont come off as whiners. In addition the main reason for it is to try to encourage kids to umpire, because they are desperate for umpires at a grass roots level, because of idiot mum and dad supporters (but thats a different issue)

After the "right in front of me" final when the crows were "robbed," Neil Craig had an umpire at every second training session that summer asking them questions, and encouraging the players to talk with them. The umpires themselves actually loved it.

In addition the AFL umpires coach makes himself available for a press conference each week to answer any questions, however the media only show up when someone big has happened.

I agree the trip was there first, but he had to get rid of it before remonstrating....even if he just handballed to the ground, no point risking the HTB.
I've only seen it in real time but also thought he got manhandled in a marking contest in the dying minutes which would have resulted in a kick at goal, am I dreaming ?
