I do agree that Melbourne played better, but Freo really played bad.

The coach has to take a high proportion of the blame for not keeping his players motivated & focussed after half-time.
The players have to take a lot of the blame because they just mentally switched off and allowed the Dees to get a sniff of a win.
Overall, Fremantle appear to have the same sort of culture that the ill-fated Brisbane Bears had in their formative years. No-one really cares that much and losing doesn't seem to hurt the players like it should.
The club needs a club president with the balls of steel and a big voice that would put the fear of god into everyone who heard it.
They really need a shake-up and very quickly.

I'd assume the basic requirement for any type of football player would to actually have a heart. These players with the exception of a very few have no heart whatsoever!!!

Honestly, I'm still scratching my head as to why there still seems to be a consensus in the media that Fremantle has a talented list, capable of being Top 4 and Premiership contenders...
I think that they have some severe gaps in their list, and that those gaps are not being covered for with good coaching, so it's a bit of both. I don't think that their list is strong enough to contend with, but at the same time, I don't think that they're being coached as well as they could be.
