We're taking this thread off-topic but anyway...

The only significant injuries we've sustained that we didn't already know about in October last year are Hayden and Morabito.

Considering most people agree Hayden isn't what he used to be and may have even found himself out of the team by the end of the year (not me though, I love Roger) that really only leaves Morabito missing from the team we were all so optimistic about a couple of months ago.

Now Mora is an exciting prospect yes, but if we're hanging our hopes on him being the difference between top 4 or not then we're got bigger problems than a couple of injuries.

Our depth is such that there's still plenty of cause for optimism imo. Hell, you need to look no further than a resurgant Palmer (whose 1st year was far better than Mora's) as a replacement for Mora in the midfield rotation and a training-the-house-down Tendai as a straight swap for Roger.
Mora and Roger are negatives for sure but there is also the positives of Mcphee,Grover,Mcpharlin and Palmer all getting in a full pre.

Singing a different song now Cassius?

I was pretty positive about being able to cover Tarrant, but with Barlow's recovery taking longer and Mora and Hayden guaranteed to be gone for a large part of the season, I'm not as optimistic.

I was hoping that Morabito would develop some clearance ability as well as getting towards Hill's dangerous level this year. Another big bodied midfielder around clearances and another dangerous runner would be a huge weapon for us to have. It would release Hill more provide more support to Barlow/Mundy/Palmer. Effectively, Mora's improvement would mean Pav as a full time forward.

Instead, our opposition will only have Hill to worry about, and our midfield is heavily centred around two guys still coming back from serious injuries.

Tarrant may be gone, but I believe we have the perfect replacement in Peter Faulks.Keep an eye on this young fella,I reckon he will one of the older recruits of the year.I like the look of him from what I have seen.
But back to the opening topic:I didn't think that the process was that far advanced.Has it been given the approval by the Fremantle City council yet?
Have seen nothing about it in the local rags. They are usually all over something like that.
I will wait until I see the building commence before I believe it.
There also has to be something in it for Souths.Their office is already in under the old stand. What is there in the Souths establishment that is of value to the FDFC? Other than taking over the bar,and we all know that wont happen.
Maybe they were taking the urine out of you guys.

You're totally underselling our list if you think Hill is the only one the opposition has to worry about. Hill is a gem, but there are golden nuggets all over the ground.

Dont know were this misconception of Barlowes recovery not being on track is coming from.
Barlowe is involved in all the skills, rehab sessions, , is swimming, using the running machines and bikes ,is walking without any noticeable limp, looks bigger in the upper body, looks to have not lost any muscle definition in his legs and the club is saying he is exactly on track to were they want him to be.
To me it looks as though Mick is right in the mix for an early return.

Dockerland will be going into melt down!

Awaitng Reginald Perrin, DrJon and co to descend upon us and blame the Steves.

Bah, it's probably just going to be a warehouse for all their unsold merchandise. :)

If the club can get over the hurdles represented by the bad feng shui inherent in the chevrons and despite the fact that we should be called the Bullsharks (Who ever heard of a Docker in Freo anyway? Stupid American name )

But seriously, I reckon its a great move to build better facilities. :footy:

Round 1 is still 3 months away. Mick will play. Mick will destroy

I'm with you. And I'm sure we're not finished with pre season injuries yet. It's not even Christmas yet and we've had two major injuries to best 22 players. That may not seem like much to some of you but how many other teams have lost players long term from their starting line up? Sure we can cover to some extent but if we're up against an opposition that's fielding their ultimate best 22, we'll no doubt be found out in some areas. The competition is that close.

Hill and Morabito are our two 100-150m play kind of players. What other players do we have that can play like that - that can carry the ball from half back to half forward and kick 50m?

We all saw how much of a headache Hill gave opposition coaches. If Morabito either improved his outside game, or his clearance game next year, we'd have a foil for Hill, or the confidence to play Pav up forward full time. If he did both, we'd have an unstoppable kind of player.

Improvement from Morabito is exactly the kind of thing we needed to go up the ladder. Without him even there, it will require improvement from the rest to maintain the same position.

Where am I saying that Barlow's recovery is not on track? It just looks increasingly likely he won't play round 1, and may miss the first few rounds.

The fact he's not doing the exact same preseason work as the others suggests he is behind schedule.

Pav, duff, Johnson, mcphee all have. Mora going down simply means the coaching staff reassessed it's options. If we can't roll with the punches and be inventive with the list, then we have a problem. Fortunately the current admin have shown nothing but an ability to adapt the list, especially with our current depth and developing youth.

Pavlich maybe, Duffield at a pinch, but Johnson and McPhee? You're crazy. When have Johnson or McPhee last carried the ball over 50m at pace and delivered a 50m kick into the forward line?

Also, where is this ability to 'adapt the list'? We've had one good year, which was forged off the back of a remarkable leap in improvements for injuries, youth development and overall list quality. At this stage, we only have on of those categories ahead of this time last year.

Last post fr me as I think you'd cut off your own nose to spite your face in this argument. Tarant going back, broughton in the middle, ballyntine in the middle, suban in the middle, silvagni going forward and a bunch more are some of the things we've dine of late to counter deficiencies of late. In the least it shows an open mindedness to play to the strengths of the list.

There was an article - actually there were a heap of articles - back in June regarding the development, though none really gave too much away.

Coffey Commercial Advisory is preparing the master plan, they are in partnership with Cox Architects and WT Partnership for this project. I haven't been able to find any of those 'artist impression' sketches that normally come out with announcements like this. I suppose we'll just have to wait for the master plan to be released.

Cox Architects in particular, are pretty well credentialed. Think of a recent project and chances are they were involved. Given they are also involved with the Fremantle Waterfront Masterplan they will have some experience in the local area as well.

The master plan will focus on both existing and new facilities as well as any additional requirements of the two clubs. It will also consider the surrounds of the oval, including replacement of the concrete terracing with grass banks to enhance the multi-purpose usage of the venue, and create opportunities for additional commercial revenue.
