Freo ground development

Had a yarn with one of the Freo ground staff this morning and he had some interesting news on new developments at the ground
Two new transportables were to be placed at the rear of the club in the players carpark today.They will house some of the office staff to allow more players facilities to be moved into the vacated office space
South Freo are moving out of their premises and into the heritage grandstand and using, below the stand as offices and change rooms
The Dockers office staff not housed in the transportables will move into Souths premise
He tells me this is all in preparation for the building of the new clubrooms, training facilities ,members facilities etc,
Exciting times on and of the field in the future for all Docker supporters

More than likely not, but this time last year you wouldn't have picked us to be playing on the MCG in the 2nd week of the finals.

We went in to round 1 with nearly a full complement of players - only Grover was out of the best 22.

This year we look like starting round 1 without Barlow, Morabito and Hayden, and Tarrant gone as well.

Getting into top four is looking more difficult.

Better to go into R22 with a full complement than R1.

We're going to be pretty damn hard to beat at home this year. That alone is a big advantage for our top 4 hopes. If we can knock Brissie off in R1 away from home it will be a big boost to our early season momentum I reckon.

Of course.

My point is, you only have to see how Adelaide went this year after having a horror run of preseason injuries. Went from being tipped as top four and premiers by some, to completely missing the finals altogether and not winning a game until round 7 against Richmond.

I think we can still make finals, but top four is difficult if not out of the question now.

The only significant injuries we've sustained that we didn't already know about in October last year are Hayden and Morabito.

Considering most people agree Hayden isn't what he used to be and may have even found himself out of the team by the end of the year (not me though, I love Roger) that really only leaves Morabito missing from the team we were all so optimistic about a couple of months ago.

Now Mora is an exciting prospect yes, but if we're hanging our hopes on him being the difference between top 4 or not then we're got bigger problems than a couple of injuries.

Our depth is such that there's still plenty of cause for optimism imo. Hell, you need to look no further than a resurgant Palmer (whose 1st year was far better than Mora's) as a replacement for Mora in the midfield rotation and a training-the-house-down Tendai as a straight swap for Roger.

i definitely think we're still a top four contender. if we had mora and barlow, i'd be thinking we'd have a tilt at the flag. schammer is the only one of our depth players who is suspect. we've recruited very well by all reports and guys like crowley and johnson will have to lift their games to keep their spots, which only makes us stronger. unless we lose a couple more players for significant chunks of time (touch wood), i've got every confidence that we'll have a second chance in september.

some lunchbox pundits call this kind of talk arrogant, but it's not at all. i've seen enough to have great assurance.

There's a lot of projection here. Tendai for Roger isn't as handy a swap as Barlow for Peake. It's at best break even, but more likely a backwards step.

My point remains that our round 1 2011 team will probably be weaker in key areas than round 1 2010.

Two players difference is a hell of a lot when they are quality and best 22, on top of already having to face covering two other best 22 players in Barlow and Tarrant.

I doubt it. We also had the general fading of our youngsters to contend with last year which obviously won't be an issue early next season. I think the team will start the season bursting out of their skins after the confidence boost of this year.

And I still think you're overstating our injuries this preseason but I'll let you have that. You're a glass half empty kind of guy, I get that.

There's plenty of time for me to get depressed if Freo put in one of their usual seasons next year. Right now I'm happy to bask in the glow of preseason optimism.

Good news that the player facilities will get an update. Finally a move from the club that is likely to lead to sustained success rather than some half arsed bullshit marketing exercise. Lets hope its all part of the master plan for a Fremantle stadium and a real home ground advantage. Provided, of course, that the Quinns Rocks move hasn't already been signed up with an american sponsor.
