Freo Vs Saints game thread

Considering we pushed the hawks, bullies and geelong (current top 3) with our current injury plagued team why do people think it's so unlikely with some new midfield class and hase/headland back we can't be top 4? Deluded.

If we get D Rich we will have a pretty good midfield.

Sandi tapping down to Hase/Rich/Palmer, handball to Headland, kicks to pavlich on the lead, goal!

Times by 20 and you have freo victories.

Even without D RIch, just adding Hase back to our team will add another dimension of class that we are missing atm. But we will draft a superstar (hopeful) mid with our first pick.

Plus we will have 6-8 crabs off our list, replaced with new players who will be better most likely, giving us more depth than now.

Mate, you're kidding yourself. We're not going to get rid of a few blokes in their late 20's, pick up 6-8 18 year olds and turn our whole club around in the space of 6 months. Short of a massive amount of luck, it just doesn't work like that. Even someone like Palmer needs at least 60 games under his belt before he gets to the level of being a champion player. Sure he's great for a kid his age, but he still makes poor decisions and his disposal is suspect (which you completely expect from someone drafted last year). And he's our best midfielder. Hase is unlikely to come back and rack up 30 touches a game. And Headland aint that good.

We need a massive clean out and start looking at 2012 or so as a realistic aim at a flag.

Headland is good when we are winning clearances, provided his injury isn't bone on bone when Hase and Palmer are dishing the ball out it will go much better with him there. There is no reason 2009 can't be our flag year, especially since it's likely we will pick up daniel rich given we have another injury to one of our best in pharlap. I wouldn't give up yet on 2009 and trust me, I'm a lot more critical than most.

We will pick up 2-3 22-25yo through trades and PSD also I suspect, won't be 8 rookies. Some of them may be decent.

So your solution is trade for more hacks?

Stay the hell away from the club. Please.

daniel rich is an outstanding young talent, but he is 18. he will not make us a top 4 team

haselby's body has been smashed and it would not surprise me if next year is his last. it's going to take a season or two too rebuild our midfield

the best we should hope for is a 6-8th finish

So you'd rather 8, 18 year olds? Please, we need some balance otherwise we will by far have the youngest list if we did that, by far.

No the best we can hope for is the flag, which is achievable if Hase is fit and Headland too, and we recruit Rich. Provided rich has a year like Palmers first (hopefully better), Palmer improves his game from now and Hase/Headland perform at their usual known best, we can win the flag. We have Pavlich,Hayden,Sandi,Pharlap, ffs, all in their prime.

A saints supporter beating on his chest after that win? Come now, least next year we will be fighting for a top 4 spot, your rabble is powered by a 36 year old veteran, how much heart is in your team?

Change your name from Memories to Delusional, Freo are light years away from the top 4 and how dare you speak of a living legend in such a way especially since you still have a few dinosaurs on your list, one of them being the most over rated footballer in history >>> McManus.

Unless Hawthorn decide that they want to trade Franklin and Hodge for our 4th round draft pick, yes.

You need to understand that there are 2 stages of a football club. You can either win the flag or you can't. If you can't, then you should be doing something to give you a chance of winning the flag in the future.

And the bottom line is that next year, short of 15 plane crashes that wipe out the core lists of every other club, we cannot win the flag. In which case, there is no point picking up hand me down players that at best patch up holes. They don't necessarily need to be 18 as such, someone like Ballantyne from Peel might not be a bad bet, but you want players that will be solid contributors in a few years when you can win the flag.

McManus overrated? Who rates him?

Couple of soft free kick goals to them was the difference.

Not really, both teams got a couple of soft ones. Pav's first goal for a "blocking" free was possibly the worst decision of the night. Blake had his eyes on the pill, and was running directly towards the ball drop. He fractionally beat Pav to the spot, Pav runs into his back (and therefore should have been penalised for a push in the back) and gets a free for "blocking". Absoulte tripe.

OTOH Goddard's first goal from the chest mark should not have been allowed as he blatently pushed Crowley in the back out of the contest. And the umpire was about 10 metres away, should have picked it up.

Swings and roundabaouts I guess. The only consistency about unpires is that they are consistently crap.

St Boreda of Boreabbin strikes again! Worst team in the competition, pretty pathetic. Anyone would think they were playing Soccer and the score was 1-0. I was waiting for StKilda fans to start chanting "One nil to St Kilda!"

Sure we flooded. So did you. All teams do now, including Geelong, the Bullies, and Hawthorn, who also attack better than both your mob and my mob.

Worst team? Pathetic? We won ... what does that make you?

Both sides are a fair bit off the pace at present.

I do like the cut of young Palmer's jib though, he looks a genuine prospect.

I have to laugh at your idiotic assessment of our team which shows massive ignorance. We have a great key forward, a good small forward, a great CHB, great small defender, a few good midfielders (two of whom are injured), all within or near peaking age. To suggest we aren't only a few new classy players away from winning a flag is ridiculous. We've got most of the skeleton there now, just need a few more bones mostly through the middle.

well i think your own supporters did the job for me but i will now go through your 'star studded midfield'.

bell- will retire at years end
haselby- lacks commitment (weight issues until this year). is slow. is coming back from a knee.
palmer- will be a second year player.
black- might be delisted
mcmanus- ha!
peake- very outside player who struggles interstate
headland - inconsistent. coming back from injury
schammer- hasnt lived up to draft hype (was considered a top 5 talent by some clubs). slow.
carr- coming to the end of his career. slow.
crowley- good tagger but struggles to consistently win his own ball.
ibbotson- really like him. looks a 200 gamer.

and finally daniel rich- you wont have pick two so your wont get him.

if that midfield is pushing for a top four spot then im a monkeys uncle!

sorry to all other docker fans that actually know where there team is at and arent totally deluded like our friend memories.

both our clubs are going nowhere. just face the facts!

If we had have had Hase this year, we would have beaten Geelong, Hawks and Bullies most likely and be in a flag winning position this year. Palmer is the best player in the 2007 draft and we got him. On the proviso of what I've listed we can easily win the flag, doesn't mean it's guaranteed but to pack up shop when it's possible to win it next year is ridiculous.

We are nothing like Saint Kilda because we actually have a few stars in the team who aren't 36. Reiwolt is a crab, your midfielders besides Harvey are inconsistent, the rest of the players are serviceable at best. We have superstars who just need good delivery (Pav/Tarrant) and backmen who need more defensive pressure in the middle (Hayden, Pharlap). Your rucks are rejects from other clubs. Besides our midfield we have great players in positions all around the ground and one of the best rucks, ALL IN THEIR PRIME.

A question about freo's gameplan? Is it to kick the ball short to the player under the most pressure? If it is they executed it perfectly.I was cheering for Freo or should I say swearing at them for most of the night.
First real look at Warnock and I think he looks handy.
Pav is an out and out star. How he gets criticised is beyond me.If he played like Riewoldt he would get 50 touches on the half forward flank.

There is "flooding" and then there is sitting EVERYONE back and just booting it out. It was a soccer game with the last 5 mins last night.

The only thing going for StKilda is.. actually i dont know what is. They have nothing.

So when you do it it's "tactical" and when we do it it's "soccer". Interesting perspective ...

St Kilda - 6 wins.
Freo - 2 wins.

"nothing" is 4 more wins than you.

BTW neither side is all that good this year. But we are marginally less crap than you.

I never said when we do it its tactical, but I think you'll find our "flooding" was nowhere near the intensity of your soccer style flood.

Also, win loss is not the only measure. Your team is one of the worst on the park, Melbourne probably just shade you. I mean you still have Max Hudghton and Robert Harvey playing.

Riewoldt's 3rd Q Free Kick

Can someone enlighten me what he got this kick for? I saw Grover cracking a sad but those C7 tossers didn't even show the footage or explain why. I reckon this goal was a turning point but I have no idea what he got it for? That was the worst coverage of a game I have ever seen. Pure Garbage.

In the marking contest, they dove foward and Warnock landed in Riewoldts back. Ridiculous, I've seen it many times. If you are just behind an opponent and you both dive for the ball in the air, land on his back its a free. What ever happened to umpiring in the spirit of the game rather than to the exact letter of the law? I know to the letter of the law landing in someones back is a free.. but in a marking contest when they dive forward surely it can be overlooked.
