Freo's trading and drafting

Still needs to communicate the game plan to the recruiting staff. The recruiting staff aren't going to get certain types of players if they don't fit into the game plan.

Its like groundhog day in here

My view is that Fremantle have become nearer to a premiership this trade period than they were before. The KPF thing is a bit overrated, 'Bondy' could've gone out and offered everything Freo have for a gun KPF, but that'd be mortgaging their future. Similarly, I'm not sure how Levi Casboult is the difference between Fremantle and a premiership.

The criticism of Ross Lyon is absolutely absurd. Does anyone - even the most one-eyed Freo fan - think Fremantle have a better 22 than Hawthorn? Fremantle ran Hawthorn quite close but were punished for a few horrendous errors against the Hawks for the second time in three years.

You could make the case that they should sell the farm because it's 'all or nothing' for their senior players now. But I think the Fremantle administration have taken the more pragmatic (and probably correct) route, which is that they can launch a serious tilt at the flag around Weller, Neale, Fyfe, Bennell, Hill, etc. Yes, tragically, Pavlich will not get his flag, Sandilands neither. But they've a very clever coach who can give them a few more years of sustained relative success with which they can attract some high-end FA talent, then launch at the flag around their younger core.

SA is spot on, as usual. Bond is well past his use by date, the club is far too reactive and behind the ball off field. Blind Freddy could see at the end of last year we needed aa key forward and some more skill and flair in the midfield, and we failed to make one trade, one!

I really believe only the intense media and fan pressure on the coaching and recreating staff to actually trade aggressively convinced Lyon and Bond to chase hard for McCarthy. But I fully expect to see only Bennell of the new recruits and draftees break into the first team and play each week. Lyon's downfall is he puts too much faith in and persists with shit players too long, expect to see the likes of Mzungu, Suban and De Boer in the team every week.

We're not going anywhere fast with Bond, and possibly Lyon.

And as for all the Freo posters resorting to ad hominem attacks on SA hang your heads. It's cringeworthy reading "who's going to the grand final" threads in April, as well as the tools who think 'Ross the Boss' has some secret plan where the team will just click when he wants them to, that he's deliberately being a puppet master by throwing derbies and manipulating the final ladder positions. Most of you have shown you have no idea, and your pathetic acceptance of mediocrity is holding the club back.

OP is spot on. Freo carry liabilities in their forward line & it makes thing so easy for the opposing defence

Edit - They don't need a gun 2nd forward. But they at least need one that demands an opponent. Casboult or Black would probably be handy

OP speaks truth. And it seems other delusional Freo fans in this thread arent prepared to stomach it.
Richmond are the same. Missing opportunity for contention through pathetic trading. Really disappointed in my club
OP speaks some of the truth. Lets get the situation straight. Freo offered their 2015 and 2016 1st round picks to get McCarthy. GWS said no. He still is contracted, despite wanting to go home. Port wanted to trade their 1st round pick for Dixon. Suns wanted more in the deal. They risked dumping Dixon in the PSD since he was out of contract. Freo have to wait at the end of 2016 as Cloke and Watts are Free Agents.

I'm not someone who subscribes to the nuff nuff mentality of 'support means blind support for your team.'

Congrats on that, but you do seem to be one of those unrealistic supporters who thinks your team is so special that players should be falling over themselves to play for them.

In reality a lot of other clubs have a lot to offer players too and it's a very competitive market, especially for quality key forwards who are probably the rarest commodity in football.

Why has Bond, or as Dockers sycophants call him, "Bondy," pulled absolutely 0 key forwards in the last five years? There's been Buddy, Cloke, Jack Riewoldt, probably Cameron, for a little while Dixon. These guys have all been offered the luuudicrous rarity of a premiership contender and at least a million bucks a season. Yet no one has come and no one has even looked like coming.

Probably for similar reasons no one was ever able to lure Pavlich away from us.

Only two of those players ended up leaving their original clubs and one of them was lured with a ridiculous contract where he'll still be getting paid when he's in a nursing home.

But ******* seriously... why the **** did this club spend its energy and man power going after a player who was never going to get to leave?! How is this acceptable? There were lesser options in Black from North and Casboult from Carlton. They weren't even touched on.

How do you know they weren't touched on?

For starters it was reported we enquired after Black but North's asking price was too high, and Casboult was reportedly placed off-limits by Carlton.

Unlike you on your keyboard, Bond has to operate in the real world with real life limitations.

Absolutely spot on. A lot of freo fans seem to accept mediocrity.

As trading finished today for another year I couldn't help think that for Fremantle, this is like losing the prelim all over again.
Not enough goals from not enough goal kickers.

The same end to the same tragic story.

If I was a key forward they'd probably be the last club I'd wanna go to.

Playing in that hell of a game plan. Only blokes who have succeeded are freaks in Riewoldt and Pavlich. Being tagged as he great white hope for a big club whose list is about to fall off a cliff (if it hasn't already).

Even if I was from Perth wanting to go back there, it'd be Eagles easily. Less pay, but more chance of success and much easier job with Kennedy and Darling around.

That 'hell of a game plan' is only execution away from three premierships. With largely inferior playing lists, no less.

I loved the way those 2 really stood up in the GF.

Which gun forwards did we miss out on due to poor management? Wasn't Mccartney since he was never on the table. How many good key position players were actually traded? It's not that common an occurrence.

You put a laughable amount of stock on the influence fan pressure has on recruiting, and are you actually suggesting that without this that Bond and Lyon would of said "thanks but no thanks Mccartney we have no room for gun young forwards on our list" ????

In my opinion I find the ad hominem attacks on SA far less cringeworthy than the angst filled whine posts crying that Bond is not up to it for reasons out of his or any ones control.

Walker could possibly have been landed if they were aggressive to seek it. He's not great but would provide some useful service. Works very hard around the ground which Ross would have liked. But alas he is off to the Lions.

Speaking of... there's a certain irony about a poster who couldn't wait to get out of backwater Perth to go live in awesome 'Melbs' continually chucking tanties when we can't lure young, highly paid Victorian footballers who have no connection at all to Perth back the other way.

Tom Lee was there but Ross didn't want to deny Peel another season of Lachie Weller ;)
Freo would rather put Troy Longmuir back at CHF then have Tom Lee play AFL games

I think still apart from Perth lads who have grown up in W.A. there is not a lot of allure to Fremantle. Cam McCarthy is one. Freo were hoping he would last untill pick 17 his year

Agreed, you have to appreciate the lifestyle to want to come here, Modra loved it though, no need to explain why.

Hopefully when we move to **** BUrn and the new stadia is running, we will start attracting more players
