Freo's trading and drafting

Keep talking about how "Ross" has a secret plan ripe for finals, or how good Taberner is...

Reality is, this group has missed a flag. I'm about the only one who'll admit it on there.

No, you're not. You present yourself as that, but you're not.

It's the same with 90% of the stuff you post on the Freo board. You take what you present as a novel contrarian position and yourself as the sole arbiter of wisdom on the subject. In fact, the same point has been discussed in depth by multiple people in several threads previous to said post.

I agree with the thrust of a lot of your opinions. Bond has clearly failed us in this aspect. No specific instance of failure, such as McCarthy, is really egregious. But taken all together over 5 years of drafting and trading, the failure to find even one competent KPF is glaring, especially in comparison with the competition at large.

Yet according to you, we didn't offer enough

You didn't offer enough, thats why a deal didn't get done.

Agreed, we had GC backed into a corner with Bennell nominating us and them having publicly sacked him effectively. We should've offered our second rounder or one of our second tier mids and not budged. Pretty pathetic to be so weak and give up 16 so easily.

So we offered too much for Harley and not enough for Cam ....what are you doing here on a footy forum? You should surely be managing an AFL list with your skill set.

Anyway better go my beer is getting flat.

I'm not someone who subscribes to the nuff nuff mentality of 'support means blind support for your team.' I think fans should be angry at losses and be vocal about their disappointment in players, coaches, management, and decisions. No good will ever come from idly sitting by and accepting all club decision as positive, or excusing poor performances or inadequate coaches.

I sit here as a Fremantle supporter after two weeks of trading. This comes after a few years of consistent top four finishes, one lost Grand Final, a straight-sets exit in 2014, and a pretty flat 2015 campaign. The ultimate insult comes via the Eagles – the cross-town rivals with a lesser coach, who only a few years ago were spooners, making the Granny this year.

The most obvious issue for anyone with eyes and Channel 7 is our forward line. It's too small. There is one key forward, Pav, who has been an undeniable stalwart and hero for the club. At 33, he's the sole target, and cops double teams and constant attention, despite carrying shit-to-average teams for 15 seasons.

This is no new revelation. Pavlich isn't jumped from age 25 to 30 in one year. Freo's poor scoring hasn't existed for one year.

So, why, in 2015 does Fremantle go after an in-contract player belonging to a club who staunchly say no to him leaving?

Why would a recruitment team, in their last year of premiership mode, go after a single target in their biggest problem area?

Why has Bond, or as Dockers sycophants call him, "Bondy," pulled absolutely 0 key forwards in the last five years? There's been Buddy, Cloke, Jack Riewoldt, probably Cameron, for a little while Dixon. These guys have all been offered the luuudicrous rarity of a premiership contender and at least a million bucks a season. Yet no one has come and no one has even looked like coming. There's clearly a negative perception regarding Freo, and its lack of success is paramount in that, and the club has no one to blame.

But ******* seriously... why the **** did this club spend its energy and man power going after a player who was never going to get to leave?! How is this acceptable? There were lesser options in Black from North and Casboult from Carlton. They weren't even touched on.

In any other job, if you fail to succeed in your one target area, you are sacked.

How can Bond and Fremantle co-exist for so long?

It's not just that but its trading... Colin ******* Sylvia. No one else. It misses out on Yeo and Jetta to the Eagles – even WA boys don't like Fremantle.

What is the issue with Freo? Will anything ever aide them in being able to pull Victorians? Is the club too arrogant and happy with its membership numbers and Fyfe Brownlows to look at itself and where it stands? Basically – has their ever been a shitter set of recruiters at a 'successful' club?

Truely bizarre. Either they don't recognise the importance of a key forward or they have just missed the opportunity.

I think you need to play Bennell or Fyfe in a forward role next year to be any chance.

The elephant in the room is Lyon. That guy hates goals. Rumour is he wanted to play Nick Roo in defence during his time at St Kilda but was out-voted on this decision. (May or may not be made up).

Fantastic input champion, really appreciate that.

I mean what kind of response are you expecting, your posting is just childish. We got the deal done with Bennel and you whine that we were too weak at the trade table. I'm guessing that if we waited too long and Bennel decided to go to Richmond, you would be whining that Freo were not aggressive enough. You write as if you believe you are saying something intellectual but you lack consistency and insight. You don't know what went on between Freo and GWS, but that does not stopping you making baseless accusations.

Basically what you are saying comes down to I didn't get what I want, so I want to throw my frustration at some one and start blaming to make myself feel better. Sacking Bond might help your feelings, but it doesn't improve our club in the slightest.

Is there a Podsiadly type mature age recruit in the WAFL, SANFL or VFL?

Yeah, James Podsiadly himself. Had 52 disposals, took 29 marks and kicked 20 goals in his final two SANFL games this year. Yes, that's right, he averaged 26 disposals, 14.5 marks and 10 goals per game in what is supposedly the best footy league outside of the AFL in the fortnight period before hanging up the boots.

There's really no other big forward in those leagues that's not already AFL listed that really makes me think they could excel on the step up. Maybe Brett Eddy from South Adelaide in the SANFL could do it, but he stalled majorly this year, and may have missed his chance.

I think you need to play Bennell or Fyfe in a forward role next year to be any chance.

I say play them both in the midfield full-time, because with the other mids they have, surely delivery should be good enough and frequent enough that anyone can kick goals for them up forward.

Yeo wanted to come to Fremantle.

I'm not sure that's the case, at least for long. I know he was a Fremantle supporter but it was the Eagles who could offer him a bigger role/contract so he jumped on that offer pretty quickly.

That 'hell of a game plan' is only execution away from three premierships. With largely inferior playing lists, no less.

Same answers saints supporters gave when Lyon was coach. De ja vu.

Such a shame you are a key board no body who no one listens to, instead of an AFL player like, erm ..............Cam McCarthy

You should concentrate on WADA possibly wiping you cheating pricks off the map for another couple of years, and why guns like Ryder and Carlisle want out of the drug lab.

Bahaha

Check out this guy

Mitch Brown, shane Yarran, Adams (WAFL) are all handy but only around 193cms.

You say "only", as though 6'4" isn't plenty big enough for a key forward.

It's their actual ability I'd be questioning, not their size.

I think part of the problem is no one wants to leave or they are so crap we can't trade them

There is literally no one that wants out who we could use in a trade. This means we have **** all trade currency

I am extremely happy with our player retention rate and for the most part the club has gone after whoever is available and quality
Weller

Don't worry, for some people in here, clearly size is the only thing that matters. As long as they're above 6'4 and have a heartbeat, Freo are idiots for not picking them up. We have strong midfield but we lack pace, and one of our best mid accumulators is in his 30s. How does that justify putting someone like Neale on the table to get McCarthy? It sounds like the club tried to package one of our whipping boy "spuds" with the first round picks from next year and this year, with the offer to pay their salary, and it was still not going to be enough.

Seeing as Pavlich is thinking of retiring, we should've sent him across as part of the deal as our sweetener.

As for giving up pick 16, I admit I felt that we were paying overs with that pick initially. But on hindsight, a six pick downgrade that came with it is not a bad deal, and it built goodwill with GCS list management - important given there are heaps of WA boys there who we would be looking at in the future.

Did anyone here hear of Alex Pearce before we drafted him? Lachie was drafted past the 50's. We've been more than okay at finding talent later in the draft.

I'm not saying Bondy hasn't made mistakes. There have been a few over the years. I'm still baffled why we didn't take Lever last year, but Weller has a skill set that also fills an area of need and was best available player at the time, so I suppose that's why we picked him.

Rubbish.
Heres a fact - you don't have KPP up forward.

Thats due to utter inept drafting and trading. A complete inbility to get the job done and make it happen.

Butter it up as much as you like but the cruel harsh reality is your forward line on paper is one of the worst in the league - due to poor trading/drafting.

Why is this on the main board?
Because the Fremantle board is populated by morons for whom the club can do no wrong, and any criticism of the club is met with being accused of supporting West Coast. (is there any other supporter base in the league that says this? and it's always said by those who are old enough to have supported West Coast).

More likely to get a more accurate appraisal on the main board, cesspit though it is.

The trading situation is only a result of pisspoor drafting that seems to want to stock up on midfielders that either aren't good enough and leave the club after a few years, or can't break into the side.

Freo is my local adopted side, so I was hoping for a coup in the trade period. The clubs premiership window is still open but I felt it needed to recruit a tall forward and a tall defender. Pav would be solid in 2016 as the second tall but it is too much to ask for him to dominate being the sole target.

I'm just not sure what the issue is but clearly something isn't working in the trade department.
