Freo's trading and drafting

Fremantle are no chance of the premiership next year. The only chance they had was recruiting McCarthy and it will be sad to see Pavlich go around next year, he should have retired.

Disagree there.
They have the best midfield in the league.
Hill, Pearce, Neale, Mundy, Barlow, Bennell, Weller and Fyfe
I spoke to Harley Bennell last week he's the happiest he's been since he was drafted.
And he is going into this pre-season fitter than he has ever been, I honestly think he will go close
to winning the brownlow.
Shane Yarran will come in as a third tall and kick 35 to 40 goals, Fyfe will play more forward.
Pav will still be around, Walters and Ballatyne should play most of the year, Crozier improving.
Apeness may get on the park and provide structure at full forward, as long as he brings it to ground for the little
players can come in.
They need to change there game plan to become more attacking, to take advantage of that midfield of there's.
But they will be right up there, they drafted some good players this draft.

What else would he say?

"Yeah I preferred Gold Coast, just here for the paycheque and the Llama Bar, really."

Sounds like Ross was a victim of the poor organisational hierarchy at St Kilda. Must have been a relief to move to a club that wasn't run like a Sunday ammos team.
Look we werent perfect and we had one of the worst administrations going around but he's also his own worst enemy.

He's just not a modern managerial coach that develops those around him well. I know you wont agree with me on this

The next 3 years will be very very interesting

Love the fact that when I read your posts, it saves me time having to reply to knobs. You're a top bloke in my book

But that's just it, it was on the table, Freo walked because they thought it was too much.
Chris Bond is a liability.
Bond a liability.... are you serious? Why dont your mob hire Cameron Schwab as your CEO and Chris Connolly as your teams coach? Enjoy trading picks 3 and 19 to get Des Headland better yet got trade your 1st, 2nd AND your 3rd round pick for Cale Morton.

We have to wait on that one though don't we?
I will take the Ross Lyon era from 2012 onwards over the 1995-2011 period no questions asked. From 1995-2011, Freo only made finals only in 2003, 06 and 2010. Under Lyon despite no flag, He has got us to a granny, a minor premiership and some respectable finals wins. I can't say the same thing about your blockhead of a coach.

Geeze mate you set the bar pretty low!!!!

It was ross mate. He asked for what he wanted and he got it. Club had to bring in pelchen and ameet to sort out his mess

He definitely didnt say that at the saints. Well not until mid 2011 when it all blew up in his face

Sorry but that shows that the Saints didn't have their house in order if that's true.

No coach should have that power.

They didnt... no one is going to argue against that. But that does not absolve ross lyon of his stuff ups during his time there

The point is though it's that the ability for any coach to make those decisions at Freo won't happen.

As an example the Bennell trade ( that most think we won) is the first time we've traded our first rounder in a very long time.

Which makes me wonder if you lose out because of that. Take clarkson as an example he does get involved in trade and draft decisions

Fyfe, Mundy, Neale, Hill guns. Bennell inconsistent. Weller barely played. Barlow and Pearce are average.

In finals, the Hawks throwing their guns into the middle (Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Burgoyne + having Smith, Hill, Shiels) is better. Case can be made for Geelong, Port, Swans for their midfields too (no Fyfe, but a lot of quality players and depth too).
Can't have Fyfe playing more forward without some detriment to the midfield. Apeness is unknown, as is Yarran.

It doesn't sound so impressive when you reword it to say they are pinning their hopes on Bennell, Yarran, Apeness and an aging Pav for improvement...their midfield is top 4 quality yes but will it improve? they need to make serious inroads if they are to win the flag - barely beat a Swans team that couldn't have done more to lose tbh in the QF and when the Hawks went up a gear in the prelim the Dockers had no answers.

19 scoring shots to 17 against the Hawks is hardly having no answer.

The reason why we lost that game had nothing to do with our midfield.

I've seen some delusional posts but this one almost takes the cake.

In game which is trending more towards offence, the ability to kick a score is becoming increasingly paramount.

Here in lies the problem for Freo:
- arguably has the worst forward line in the league
- a coach that won't change nor adapt
- a club that can't succeed in developing, drafting, trading for any form of goal kicker.
- little to no depth up forward nor down back.

Many clubs are closing the gap with increasingly attacking game plans and the artillery to pull it off.

The harsh reality is this club just doesn't get better for season 16'.
Will almost certainly come back to the pack.

A forward line of Walters, Ballantyne, Pavlich, Fyfe, Bennell, Yarren and Taberner / A Pearce looks pretty damn good actually.

Reading anything you say about Freo is like listening to a tobacco company talking about the positive health effects of smoking.

You know it's a load of tripe and you also wouldn't expect anything less.

The off season is still pretty young. Do you think you can maintain the tripe for another 3-4 months?

I didn't think Rossy could maintain the same game-style for 9 years and not learn his lesson but he's proved me wrong!
