well yeah i thought it was pretty clear i was talking about 2009

if our midfield becomes competitive we will kick winning scores

with anthony, wells, ziebell and harvey hopefully playing more games in 2010 our midfield will improve a lot

in 2009 we were completely smashed in total possessions in the midfield and inside 50s

how many times did anyone in our midfield get 30 disposals or more?:thumbsd:
harvey, anthony and swallow maybe did it a couple times each

if we can start breaking even in the inside 50s count we should beat teams more often than not but in 2009 we were not even competitive in this area for most games

our midfield was a disgrace for most of 2009 this is not even arguable

I think Hale should be given 6 weeks to show he can play.

I'd have him in a shootout with Oscar Smith throughout the intra club games and the 4 NAB Cup/Challenge matches. There's your 6 weeks. Give them identical game time and opportunities inside 50 and whoever kicks the most goals, plays round 1. The other goes to Ballarat.

Dish should be our chf ,leave him there straightens us up big time .

Ignoring the subject of where he's best suited, I reckon the club will persist with Hansen at CHF.

So Drew takes FF. (Edwards or Smith covering him in his absence. Probably prefer the former, but not passionate about it, especially since I'm one of those who tends to think Az does some of his best work as a link man. If he snares FF, as a few have said, you'd want him pretty much anchored to the goal square.)

Tarrant can prove himself to be the best option with the appropriate form in the 2's.

Hale can piss off.

Surely people suggesting Edwards just plonks himself in the goalsquare realises that no modern day full back will just sit there with him. They will run off him and be damaging. They will realise Edwards' main weakness is his kicking over distance. So Edwards will end up having to follow them and be accountable, and the result is a whole lot of nothing gained.

Its a critical position........considering our options Hale gets the gig for the first 3 rounds...........if he turns it around and shows something then he stays and Dish gets CHF....if he doesnt then hale is out and Dish gets the gig.......secondary option would be Azza.........

We have the ball in the middle and opposition full backs will sprint up the ground in order to get Edwards out of range? That would be the ultimate in tactical stupidity.

The opposition full backs are only going to run up the ground when they have the football. Otherwise Edwards just sprints back to the goal scoring zone.

We should be spending the preseason trying to find out. In my opinion it's a CHF forward we need to find. Drew is our best option in the forward fifty purely because of the contest he provides. I wouldn't mind seeing Hale, Smith, Tarrant, (Hansen?) battle it out for CHF.

I'm comfortable with putting Josh Smith upforward to just bring the ball to the ground, but I am wondering if we could maybe superglue two wheely bins together, one on top of the other, and we just instruct out mids to aim at it, with our crumbers around the base of the bins.

It'd be a cheaper option.

Bring a midfield that can actually hit a target and Hale will be very good, as long as he gets back that strong attack on the ball, something that wasn't consistent last year. Drew at CHF is better.

Yeah but can we trade the two wheely bins to the Gold Coast. Apparently we can get like 5 first rounders for Hale.

We should re-draft Adrian McAdam as he was renowned for drilling passes into wheelie bins as his post training party trick! Big Oscar would kick the ton!

C'mon aria, Anthony is a first year player, Swallow a third year play and Harvey done his elbow early in the year. These three alone will contribute about 100 possessions a game if fit. Throw in Wells and Zeibell who contribute quality possessions, then add on some of the younger midfielders coming through then the midfield is taking shape.

This. And the fact most modern day Full Backs are 190cm + and a hell of a lot stronger than Azza.

i know mario has already addressed this and im not going to weigh in on edwards at FF

but it has got me absolutely baffled how passionate fans who watch games every week could actually think football works like this? you can not be serious?

Name one FF at another club who just sits in the goalsquare and kicks goals from 10-20m out. It doesn't happen anymore, it is not 1993.

pretty much what mario said

if what you described in your post actually happened edwards would kick 200 goals a year

I understand what mario says, and I agree, they would only run off Edwards if they have the ball. And when they do that Edwards would have to follow. So what happens when we get the ball back? Edwards is 100m from goal because he had to follow the full back out.

It is a great idea in theory, to just leave someone in the goal square. But in practice, it is so easy to exploit, even Laidley would have been on top of that one.

Next FF idea.

Our best prospect for the future is Tarrant. We need to get him fit, not for next year only, but for his entire career. Petrie will easily kick 50 next year and should aim for 60 if played at FF.

Edwards, Smith, O'Keefe etc are nothing options. Edwards is an average footballer who is a KPP stuck in a small mans body. Smith's ceiling stops at "journeyman" and O'Keefe is smaller than my dick. We really need to solve this problem quickly, unfortunately it takes a lot longer than we think.

If Butcher is available, I'd seriously consider him.
