Future 22

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

The idea is to project what our best 22 will look like in 3-4 years.

For this exercise I am assuming the following players will no longer be playing for the Blues:

Andrew Carazzo (age 30 in 2014 turns 31 in December but I won't count it)

Probably will be past it. His fitness is what makes him valuable, when he starts to lose this he will be less and less of an asset.

Brad Fisher (age 30 in 2014)

A player who will be struggling having never really realized his full potential. Will be hard pressed to keep his spot

Richard Hadley (age 31 in 2014)

Same story as Fisher, hasn't really sealed a place this year and will be up against it to do so this year let alone in 2014.

Ryan Houlihan (age 32 in 2014)

Is under scrutiny now for his performances, will probably be past it

Setanta O'Halpin (age 31 in 2014)

Really is the same story as most of these guys. Not exceptionally talented, has injury concerns, age will catch up.

Heath Scotland (age 33-4 in 2014)

The age says it all

Bret Thornton (age 30 in 2014 will be 31 in late 2014)

Will slowly be pressed from the side, age will catch up

Simon Wiggins (age 32 in 2014)

Another struggling to make the seniors this year, will probably be seen enough.

Maybes:

Chris Judd (age 31 in 2014)

Is a champion, may still be valuable

Kade Simpson (age 30 in 2014)

Is the sort of gut-running players that could be shifted to the forward line and still have an impact

Jarrad Waite (age 31 in 2014)

Injury concerns may shorten his career but could still be playing well

Under the assumption that these players are ruled out the following is my best 22 based on players currently on the list and the inclusion of F/S Selection Dylan Buckley

B: Davies Jamison Bower
HB: Russell Austin O'Keefe
C: Lucas Mclean Buckley
HF: Yarran Henderson Robinson
F: Betts Casboult Gartlett
R: Kreuzer Gibbs Murphy
I/C: Hampson, Grigg, Kerr, Walker.

For objectivity I have left out the maybes.

Personally form what I can tell we will probably need to draft a KPF as cover in this years draft (yes I did support drafting midfielders recently but now we definitely need to look at a tall)

For what it is worth this thread is, more than anything else, really just looking at our youth and deciding who are our best prospects

Draft Pick - Jamison - Draft Pick
Russell - Bower - Draft Pick
Draft Pick - Draft Pick - Draft Pick
Lucas - Henderson - Yarran
Betts - Draft Pick - Buckley
Kreuzer - Murphy - Gibbs

Coach: Draft Pick

There. Timesaver.

B: Joseph Jamison Draft pick
HB: Russell Austin Bower
C: Lucas Mclean Buckley
HF: Yarran Henderson Robinson
F: Betts Draft pick/Trade Garlett
R: Kreuzer Gibbs Murphy

I/C: Warnock Grigg Trade Walker (takes the position of the other Andrew)

Emerg: Hampson O'Keefe Kerr Davies

Subliminal. I like it.

Wasn't the point of getting Judd to try and grab a premiership while he was in his prime?
No one so far has named Judd

And IF we can turn Hampson into a KPF over the course of this year and next, this would be my team going into the 2011 finals:

B: Joseph Jamison Russell
HB: Gibbs Austin Bower
C: Lucas Mclean Waite
HF: Simpson Henderson Yarran
F: Betts Hampson O'hAilpin
R: Kreuzer Judd Murphy

I/C: Warnock Scotland/Walker Garlett/Robinson Thornton/Armfield

Midfield rotations: Judd, McLean, Murphy, Gibbs, Lucas, Yarran, Simpson, Betts, Joseph

I don't know why Simpson, with his strength over head, has not been nominated as a permanent HFF.

Waite to move forward or back as the game flow requires. Gibbs coming off the HBF spotting up options between centre and HFF. Betts staying within 30 metres of goal hovering around the feet of Hampson and Setanta. Henderson having put on about 8 kgs of muscle and rag-dolling opposition CHBs :)

Every line with at least one player who is skilled by foot!

It's a bit hard to put Davies,O'Keefe,Casboult and Kerr in the best 22 when they have never played a AFL game and may never play 1.Hampson,Austin and Grigg need improvement to stay there 4 years time.Robinson is yet to prove he is a 100 game player.Henderson,Lucas,Gartlett and Yarran all show good signs.

This is more logical if Buckley is a gun.

You would think that if the club were aiming to push for a flag in the very near future (which apparently we are), then the bulk of the team would be in our squad already. So for the sake of this exercise my team is keeping this in mind; premiership, poetential, current form, only 1 draftee (Dylan), Judd and Waite in....

B: Buckley - Jaimeson - Waite
HB: White - Bower - Russell
C: Lucas - Cachia - Joseph
HF: Yarran - Henderson - Kerr
F: Donaldson - Casboult - Betts
R: Kruezer - Murphy - Gibbs
Int: Hampson - Judd - Davies - Garlet

Emg: Simpson, Robinson, Maclean, Austin

Notes

Buckley - in the back pocket, blistering pace, cool head, brilliant skills (a good Armfield)

Waite - if he's fit he's in. Takes Thorntons spot as 3rd tall, also more flexible than Austin IMO.

White - Out of him and Austin I hope White makes it. He used to be a midfielder so he's got the skills, can play tall or small.

Cachia - I reckon he's going to come on strong and push for Macleans spot (I hope so anyhow), he's much more mobile and got good foot skills.

Kerr - If he gets fit, he could be very damaging. Takes Robbo's spot :(

Donaldson - 3rd tall option, has plenty of pace, leap, good hands, long kick, good at ground level, gives his all.

Casboult - our very own man mountain, great grab, good kick (even with a bad action)

Hampson - more potential than warnock.

Judd - midfield rotation

Davies - midfield or backline, gut runner, gives us flexibility

Garlet - Pace to burn, in a couple of years with a few extra kg's, could play, wing, midfield, forward

IMO, this team has great flexibilty, pace and hopefully skill.
