Doesn't anyone else think that maybe Fyfe is thinking 'what can we do do work on this' as opposed to 'I want to leave'.

He is the captain and his team is rock bottom atm. He's showed that not the type of guy that shies away from adversity or runs when the going gets tough. He'd look at the situation and try to turn it around. The result on the weekend doesn't make him any more likely to leave imo, I think he made up his decision to stay with the team for the long term a while ago. The contract stuff is just a financial negotiation between his manager and the club.

People that run around saying Fyfe is gonna leave cos the team is losing are like people that say Ross is gonna leave cos the team is losing.

It's dumb, it's not true and it's just fodder for the trolls. The trolls have enough fodder, don't feed them any more.

Agreed. And with the likely exodus of more senior crew from the team (plus Pav/McPharlin etc last year) that should free up enough cap space to accommodate his higher contract and give us money to properly pay the youngsters that show talent and heart.

Fyfe's words in that famous presser were pretty grey area

It is a no brainer everyone thinks he will stay because he is a good local lass (which i think he will stay to)

Yet his big ego and emphasis on himself and his own brand and that presser where he talks about success etc makes lots of people (and trolls) wonder if he would want to stay. It is just like all the other big free agents of the last few seasons, there will be conjecture until a signature is done

Does anyone feel fyfe leaving may be a good thing? Imagine what we could get for him. Potentially 2/3 top tier players. A lot of top end players who leave, actually turns out good for the original club. I know draft picks aren't a guaranteed thing, but we are desperate for multiple top end players.

Not the way our drafting has gone recently. If you believe the stories, we would have selected Logue at pick 3 if we still had it last year.

Most likely 2 first round picks and a player if we matched a free agency bid.

If he was to leave (lets say hypothetically we finish bottom) and we got top end compo, what does that result in for us.

Pick 2 + anything?

Who determines we get pick 2? AFL house?? Seems to high - they'd never look after us.

What did they give Geelong for Ablett?

It's my understanding that it is based on money and size of contract. Granted Fyfe would be on a lot, we would get the highest possible compo pick.

I was more confident before the season started he'd sign on, however, his reasoning for signing a contract anywhere would be based on the direction and potential for future success (professionally and personally). At the moment, as a supporter, compared to a club where he'd get offers (Hawthorn, St Kilda), our list and game plan don't stack up compared to theirs. If he's true to what he's saying, there's the possibility the club has to prepare for life without Nat.

I don't think he's going anywhere.

Saints won't make the 8 this year. They have a crazy hard fixture and injuries to key players already. Hawks unlikely to make finals either.

If we take compo we have our pick 1 and compo pick 2.

Or

We force a trade with Saints and get the two 1st rounders Saints will have. So picks 1, 6, 8.

Option two is better, but I don't think Fyfe will leave. How would that look for him. Leaving as captain when the going gets tough.

Ryan Griffen done it to us.. The next season we make finals and the following we win the flag.. I say go for it ;)

There isn't enough compensation in the world to cover the years of ridicule which would be hurled our way by opposition supporters if Fyfe left...what if he won another Brownlow, a couple of Normies and a couple of Premiership medallions at another club? :fearscream:

What if we got a Josh Kennedy and Pick 3 in return?

What's better for the club, taking pick 2 as compo (assuming we finish last) or trading with say St Kilda for two first round picks (assume they finish 8th) and we get say pick 9 and one of Hawthorn's pick this year or their 2018 first?

Carlton's two first round picks and SPS.

We'd be one:
* Best player in the competition short
* Team captain short
* Inspirational leader short
* "I'd die for Fremantle" player short
* "Follow me boys, I'll take us to the Promised Land or die trying" talisman short
* Poor excuse for a football club.

no-one signs on early anymore. Expect Fyfe and Dusty Martin to wait until the end of the year. Both will feature in the Top 5 of the Brownlow and give their agents leverage to get a better contract.

You'd only start to worry if Fyfe starts playing the way Ablett did on the weekend with the Suns, who clearly doesnt want to be there.
