Gameday: Round 7 - Essendon vs Port

One thing that blatently stands out everytime i watch the dons play are the amount of players that run to the player in possession.

The players that are ball watching have released their opponents and the opposition is away. What is even worse is when we have 2-3 players run toward the ball carrier and then see him sidestep his way out of trouble.

Please try and be more accountable. It will come i know.

On a positive note it was good to see the young players out there. Gee Neagle looks impressive.

Finally someone that can see one of our big problems.

Good post

Spot on. :thumbsu:

It's like a vacuum, they all get sucked into the contest...

Top post -- the number of times they had 2-3 free guys standing by themselves in the coridor was frightening... This is not about pace or skill, mainly about concentration and smarts

Guys.

It's a bit hard for the mods to anything while we are not on

fatgutz has been warned and infracted previously and he doesn't learn to stay on topic and stop pushing his agenda, not too mention his rubbish posting, so he now has been banned from our board for a month.

On his return if he continues, it will be made permanent.

If you have an issue with posts, report them, don't get involved in slinging shit back as you will only end up getting drawn into it also.

That's bloody soft, any of the other team boards would have banned him for good, if he didn't change his ways after the first warning,

No wonder our board has so many trolls.

Terrible effort. I think we all know what we did wrong, so i'll just give some player reviews.

Mcphee Good game. Tried his guts out all evening. Gave away way too many freekicks, but his effort cant be questioned

Myers Shanked a couple of kicks which were lucky enough to land safely. Doesnt know what defensive pressure is. A few times he just jogged behind a Port player who was running with the ball. Needs to work on this.

Neagle Great game. Should have had 4 goals, but missed 2 sitters. I reckon he will stay in the side atleast until Lucas returns. Gee Kelvin, if only he wasnt so fat...

Lloyd Back to form, and about time. Did some good things, but he needs to impose himself on contests more.

Johns Best game he has played for a while. He had 1 goal kicked on him, from the dubious 50m penalty. He was one player who was willing to kick long to a contest instead of trying to invent something with a dinky kick or a handball. We need more of it.

Mal Good game. He was a great pickup for us.

Houli Great in the guts, just needs to trust his kicking a bit more.

Monfries Terrible game. I couldnt count how many times he turned the ball over or put another Bomber under pressure. He should be dropped IMO.

Stanton Still has no defensive side to his game. Put simply, he is lazy.

Dyson Wasnt too bad. He was on Rodan and Surjan throughout the game. Neither had any real impact on the game. Needs to kick it more though, his kicking in infinitely better than his handball decision making.

Where are all these trolls mantis?

Just read the threads Merv, it's obvious who the trolls are.

By the way, you didn't say why you gave that troll a permanent ban, one warning should be enough & is on other boards, hell, some of them don't even give one chance.

Man.. how negative do you want to be.. It is the kids first game... He had 3 good tackles and won several 1:1 contests. These sorts of posts make me really angry -- you make sweeping generalisations about a player based on one game. Just emotional fuelled misinformed opinions that can not be substantiated. These kid especially, needs to be a big part of our future. Think before you post these sorts of comments -- or at least temper them with the positive stuff the kid did.

Umm.. that's our "gameplan". Group together for run and carry when we have it. Everyone run at the opp with the ball (and run off your guy) in order to put "pressure" on them. ;)

Is it?

I thought our gameplan was to handball to stationary targets under pressure until we can free up a player to kick it blindly to the opposition then sit back and watch our defenders get bent over.

A troll is just not someone who you don't agree with mantis.

We are not other boards and hopefully he will learn his lesson and become a better poster on his return.

If not he's gone for good.

I read every post on this board mantis, so since you claim that trolls here are a problem, link to them and they will get sorted out.

Trolls? No don't have that many. We do however have a heap of annoying posters who usually post crap, But not much we can do about that...

Are you just being precious here spikey or volunteering for a job. Forums are not sacrosanct place but tolerance, within reason, is a function of it/them.

The funny thing about the crap on b13 is that it is directly recognisable for being just that. The crap you are talking about, on the club boards, is like a coloured filter on your glasses, you just cannot see yours when the shade changes, or the light shifts. That's a pedagogy not peculiar to any point without reason spike.

Thats why you get annoyed.

Im not saying he isnt going to be a big part of our future. the fact remains though that his defensive pressure wasnt up to scratch. Whether that was because of work rate, fitness, coaching or a factor of all three I dont know, but it needs to be worked on. I would have thought the one thing a young guy could have done to cement his place in the team was apply defensive pressure, seeing as though no one else bothers.

As for my "negative" comments. I dont feel these comments were negative. They were just comments made to point out to those who wernt at the game, that all is not as it seems. Everyone is heaping praise on Myers because it was his first game, and for a first game it wasnt that bad. But they failed to include some important things about his game.

And I dont mean to single out Myers here, but Your post forced it upon me Sigmund. If you read my whole post, I had good things to say about some of our more maligned players. Im not a "negative Nancy", I just post as I see it.

Fair response Donsman -- you did in fact discuss positives about other players.. You have probably picked out a point (i.e., defensive pressure) that we are clearly lacking.. Taking your point a step further - If Myers had laid, lets say even one "run down" tackle from behind, then it would have elevated his game again... It is a fine line between negativity and a balanced view. I think this line gets blurred when we lose because people tend to get too negative and the balanced views get clumped in with these. So overall a fair point you make - but i still liked what I saw overall with young Myers:)
