i know that jnr hasn't had anywhere near as big as career yet but who do u think jnr will have a better career then snr?????

Gary Sr at age 23 yrs 4 months had just completed the pre-season for the 1985 season!! That's the amazing thing about Jr, he has already played over 100 games, and he is now as explosive and impactful in the midfield as anyone you could name currently, a fit Judd included. Given a kind run with injuries, he might play 200 more games in the next 9-10 years, and might by the end of his career be as decorated as a Skilton, Bunton or a Stewart. He'll never be likely to take speccies like his dad, but he is as exciting for Geelong fans to watch. Best father-son combination of all time i'd say!

All Gary jnr will have to do is win one GF and he will have surpassed his father. Sorry, I'm sure all on here are aware of my distaste for Gary Snr, good football player or not.

Wasn't just a 'good' footballer though...he was a freak, better then anyone else i've seen play in 20 years

Jnr may for sure have a more successful career then his father...Premiership, Brownlows etc. He may be remembered as a great midfielder, but there has been 10 or so 'great mids' in the last 20 years, but there was only be one Gary ABlett Snr. Jnr will never be the player Snr was, which is no slight on the kid...not many will ever come close.

Who knows.....maybe when Gaz Jr is 29-30, he might move to the forward pocket...and kick a bunch of goals....:D

Sr though was a one-of, but boy its fun as a Cats fan to see the name and legacy live on with such distinction. Hoping Nathan also can realise his potential, i think he hasn't so much as scratched the surface of that. He's only 21 also.

I think some people are forgetting how great Gary Ablett was.

Just go and hire the 89 grand final DVD and watch the second half, he was totally awesome against a qulaity defence. This was after he was cleaned up by Ayres I think.

Jnr is a great running player, Snr was a freak and had an ability to turn something out of nothing. Don't get me wrong we are yet to see the best of Jnr but as far as being able to turn a game Snr was the best in the last 20 years.

They both run the same, strong in the hips so they can break tackles, fast, great awareness, good kicks.

Give Jnr some more time and endurance he will be (probably is now) a top notch midfielder whereby Snr was a forward.

Junior is easily the most protected player in the competition.

In fact, I believe seperate rules have personally been written for him.

You can't say that about our Gazza!! He is scrupulously fair, he plays the ball and he does things in confined spaces that others can only look at with wide-eyed wonderment. I'm sure the Kangaroos would find room for him in their side!

Nobody tackles him because of the amount of soft free kicks he constantly attracts.

I could find room in our side for anyone that had a 4 mile exclusion zone.:thumbsu:

Harvey would average 40 kicks a match if he were given the same treatment.

You are comparing the best footballer ever to the brownlow favourite this year. Senior could do the superhuman better then anyone iv'e ever seen. :)

junior will never be as good as senior, senior could do things that people dreamed of doing as a kid, he was a absolute freak, best player to ever play the game and you will find that most polls support this.
support that snr was the best player to ever play the game?
i don't think so muppet.

Actually, you won't.

A certain number 3 from hawthorn would be well ahead of Gary Snr.:thumbsu:

Is it me or are Geelong supporters the most delusional on the board?

There is a common element of society, not only in football but across all aspects of life, particularly in the Arts, whereby the public seem to magnify the ability of those in the past. A prime example of this is that Shakespeare will always be regarded as the greatest writer. Not saying that this isn't true, but it will never change regardless. And the fact that all of Rolling Stone's top 10 albums of all time were from the 70s. So Even though Gary Ablett is fairly new in these terms, he was obviously playing before his son, and people will stick with saying he's better regardless

nup most polls have him ahead.Even sheedy has him as the best player ever.I remember when all that debate was going on about ablett being in the hall of fame, mike sheehan said that the case put forward for ablett being selected was that he put more buts on seats then anyone to ever play the game.

i have payed alot of attention to the best ever palyer polls and ablett wins most of them.

Thats strange. I suppose the AFL got it all wrong when they named Leigh Matthews the player of the century.

Fraid not. Simply incorrect

Leigh Matthews - the best footballer

Gary Ablett Snr - the most natural talent

Gary Ablett Jnr - not as talented as his father, but certainly a very good (and maybe one day, great) footballer.
