Geelong give them a get out by playing home games through the year at the MCG.
Giants play zero home games at the SCG.
We aren’t going to build in Western Sydney playing home finals at the SCG.
Cats had a 100 year plus head start to build that. In a 100 years Im sure we will play in the biggest stadium in Sydney.
By the way that’s Accor not the SCG.

It's about $ if the AFL can make more money, they are going to do that.
I would actually prefer Geelong to play at GMHBA as, I think them playing at MCG helps them more.

Giants don't barely sellout their stadium, moving the match would barely increase the attendance.
Meanwhile, Geelong/Brisbane will double the capacity of Kardinia Park by playing it in Melbourne.

Again I ask, why did nobody ever seem to care when St.Kilda and the Dogs were forced to host interstate teams in finals at the MCG instead of Marvel, but every time it's Geelong in the same situation, it's suddenly a problem?

Please educate yourself on this because you're completely wrong.
Geelong are forced to play home games at the MCG during the season against their will. They have requested to have every home game in Geelong for many years.
Because Geelong are the self entitled spoilt brat of the Victorian teams, that start crying and throwing a tantrum when things don’t go their own way. That’s why it’s suddenly a problem.
AFL has an agreement with the MCC, that states a minimum of games be played at the MCG. It also makes sense, that for a Victorian team to play at the higher capacity ground. So unless that crap ground can increase its capacity to 100k+ Geelong should expect their games being moved during the finals to the MCG.

Great question—and you're not alone in wondering why Geelong can't host a home final at GMHBA Stadium while GWS can host one at Giants Stadium, despite the latter having a smaller capacity.
Geelong is restricted by a long-standing contract between the AFL and the MCG, which mandates that:
- If there is only one final in Victoria during weeks 1–3 of the finals, it must be played at the MCG.
- Finals in Victoria with an expected crowd of 55,000+must also be played at the MCG
GWS, on the other hand, is not bound by any such contract. Giants Stadium (capacity ~25,000) is their primary home ground, and the AFL allows non-Victorian clubs to host finals at their home venues unless there are exceptional circumstances. The AFL is more flexible with interstate clubs because there’s no equivalent contractual obligation like the MCG deal in Victoria.
So, while it may seem unfair, it comes down to contractual obligations, expected crowd sizes, and AFL policy—not just stadium capacity.

Let me preface this by saying I actually agree - the Saints and Dogs should host at Marvel if they want.
I will also preface it by saying on the record, it doesn’t bother me anymore and to be honest never really did.
But it’s the same city and a few kms up the road. Geelong isn’t in Melbourne. That’s the primary difference. It’s close, yes, but it’s not the same city.
If the Steelers still had their own team in the nrl no one would bat an eyelid if they hosted a final in Wollongong. Same with Newcastle albeit it’s about 45 minutes further away.

No, we don’t. We accept that if we are going to host 2 games at the mcg, of course it makes sense to host the 2 biggest possible games we can get there.
If someone said to you ‘you have to spend 2 nights in Afghanistan’ you’re going to ask for the best hotel there aren’t you.

With the way things have fallen and no other finals at the MCG in week 1 (and the resulting interest in going from AFL/MCC members), I think even Geelong v Gold Coast/GWS may have got 55,000+.
Geelong v Brisbane as the only Vic final in week 1 (and the only week of finals with somewhat affordable children's tickets for a lot of families) could challenge last year's prelim for attendance (well over 90,000).

Geelong have played home games in Melbourne since Waverley opened in 1970. Some there, some Docklands, some MCG, usually 7-9 a year at Kardinia Park. Not a Cats fan, don't care if they play 0 or 11 home games at KP. They are their home games, they can balance home ground advantage vs commercial return vs exposure in the larger market etc.
The VFL/AFL went from all finals at the MCG to some at Waverley to some interstate to some at Docklands to now pretty much every final played in Victoria will be at the MCG. Docklands has hosted 6 finals ever and they are Hawthorn x 3, North, St Kilda and Essendon. Hawthorn vs Adelaide EF in 2007 drew 36k people. Hawthorn vs Adelaide SF in 2015 drew 70k people. I mean Hawthorn vs Geelong EF in 2000 drew 44k. You wouldn't even schedule that as a H&A game at Docklands now. Finals have outgrown Docklands. The only reason that a one off final was played in Geelong is the AFL don't care about insulting Freo and didn't want to make Collingwood play at Docklands. In any previous season they would've played Geelong vs Freo at Docklands but Geelong rightly pointed out that as a top 2 side maybe they deserved preference over a team that missed the top 4 in scheduling.
The most important thing to remember with this stuff is that the AFL makes it up as they go along. They also introduced the bye week so they can play Thursday, Friday, Saturday x 2 in week 1 of the finals. It's a wet dream at AFL house to have multiple MCG finals weeks 1 and and/or 3. Seasons like 2015 when both prelims were in Perth make Gil and Dil cry.
What happens north of the border is a bit different. You aren't going to generate much interest in Western Sydney playing at the SCG, and depending on who GWS play you are really looking at how many fans want to travel from outside NSW when forecasting crowds. If Gold Coast end up hosting Brisbane in a final it will be interesting to see which way the AFL goes. Sydney and GWS have already played multiple times but each time Sydney was the higher ranked side and I think they have given up on using Stadium Straya.

The difference is the club benefits from playing the occasional match at the MCG. It's where finals are played, and Easter Monday is a great tv spot and a great time to give love to Melbourne based corporates. And Geelong are the best run club in the league. They're not stupid.
Geelong make just enough noise to please the Cats fans, but not enough for the AFL to take them seriously. If Geelong came out publicly and said "We only want a home EM match if it's in Geelong", then the AFL might take them seriously.

Wed benefit anyway. We’d still play big games there because the likelihood of us not playing any matches against big sides there is extremely low whether they be a Friday or Saturday night against another big team or an every second year match against Hawthorn as an away team or whatever. Who the hell cares. We get made do it, we make the best of it. Stop making more of it than what it is/

Geelong sell 9 home games a year to GMHBA, as they always say they get more money playing there, so they are selling games. And like Hawthorn in Tasmania and GWS in Canberra, you can't play finals at a ground you sell home games to.

Especially when I said ‘I’ll preface this by saying I really don’t care’ because I don’t. We don’t play finals at home, we don’t play 11 home and away games at home, and for nigh on 20 years we’ve been handfeeding the ringhole of your team and most others to them wherever we play, at a success rate better than any other team. It makes no difference.
Can you idiots even accept hearing an explanation of something without playing the ‘stop whinging’ card? It’s becoming a bigger whinge, than any actual whinge, than anyone is actually having.
Whats fundamentally wrong with asking for something you’re logically entitled to, and then when you’re told ‘no’ saying ‘ok we will make the best of what we get, then?’
Struggling to see how there’s something wrong with that.
