I get it. There’s a lot of people sick of Geelong’s constant contending.
If I supported another team I’d probably be sick of them too. Maybe I’d even suspect something nefarious was going on. It’s human nature.

I doubt you squeeled this much when Judd was getting extra money from VisyIt’s not about haters, sport or any competition only works within clearly defined rules, as to make that competition fair and competitive. This is such an obvious breach and probably is cheating. How much were cotton on paying Tom Hawkins wife? How did a major sponsor poach a star from another club. Nothing Geelong ‘achieves’ means anything. They have no respect or admiration from the football public that can see this happening.

I'm not sure how I'm reveling in anyones misery? I just found it funny how Elixuh can so easily stir people up.
The Cats won a flag just 2 years ago and beat us in a Prelim in doing so, after also shattering our GABBA dream in 2020. Grim viewing indeed.
Geelong are everything I'd hope the Lions can maintain to be in the near future. FWIW I don't think Geelong are rorting the system, as per the thread.

It's a shame people tend to veer towards the conspiratorial rather than utilizing logic. For mine, if he gets another contract after 2026, and it's a lower value...then we can start talking about 'rorts.' As it stands though, Scott is contracted until 2026, which took place before this latest announcement...long before.
I honestly think it means that he'll be handing over to Rahilly come end of 2026 - and he's already taking steps towards his post-coaching career.
Let's revisit this if/when he gets a new contract. For now, we can't rort the soft cap because his contract is already built in for the next 2 years.
The optics aren't fantastic, but logic dictates that this is an outside venture and doesn't change the current amount being paid by Geelong...as it's already a contractual obligation.

Geelong supporters claim there is no way their club would ever do something even slightly dodgy. Can’t see any issues with a club sponsor, paying a player from another club and as soon as he can he ends up at the other club who already paying him? C’mon.

This isn't a Geelong thing, it is an AFL thing. The AFL slashed the soft cap during Covid and never brought it back close to where it was. Clubs are obviously trying to find creative ways to get more money into their coaching staff when all the AFL need to do is increase the soft cap back in line with how it was heading in 2019

Geelong are so far ahead of the rest of the comp. Nobody else is even thinking of rorting the soft cap, and we’re just doing it in everyone’s face.

Nike are a major club sponsor at Sydney. I bet they already individually sponsored guys at other clubs that have come there in the past. Is that a problem?

You comparing Nike to Cotton On, that’s a problem. Imagine there are probably quite a few, how many times with Cotton On? Sponsors one player in the league who then ends up at Geelong, Geelong supporters quite defensive for something that is just a ridiculous notion apparently.

Nike are also a much, much, much bigger company, and would have deals with players, advertising deals and ambassadorial roles etc. Sydney eyes one of them: Nike helps it along. What’s the difference.

Lol, you can't see a problem with the Cats-Cotton On-B Smith situation, because a sports brand who sponsors a sports team and sportsmen might do the same thing.
