Geelong rorting the system

The funny thing is, Geelong have had an amazing run since 2004.
But they are still mediocre over the 150 year journey.
Collingwood have been competitive all the way through out their history, consistently giving their fans a good game.
An amazing record

How many other teams would give anything to have played in nearly 50 grand finals, numerous preliminaries

What a team to support

If you want to talk about consistency then find someone else to debate it with. Yes Collingwood have been the most consistent team over the history of the game. Well done.
Geelong are about to pass Essendon into 3rd spot on that list, and in the period that most of us can remember - certainly the 36 years I’ve been watching - Geelong have outperformed Collingwood both in terms of wins, and going deep into finals. And premierships. So it’s not like you’re comparing the Australian and Zimbabwe cricket sides here. But well done on being given a good game. We must have had to cheat just to get in your jetstream and for that we owe a huge debt of gratitude.

I bet supporting the Pies for all those war time grand finals is an awesome memory for you

The first 'grounds' that football was played on in 1859 were rectangular and the length and width were determined by the captains. Ergo; most games had matches played on fields that were irregularly shaped and sized.

In any case, we've played on this venue since 1941. 84 years on our ground with this shape.

AFL LAWS:

3.3 PLAYING SURFACE AND POSTS GENERAL
The dimensions and markings of the Playing Surface are contained in this Law 3 and illustrated in Diagram 1.
PLAYING SURFACE (a)

The Playing Surface shall be:
(i) oval in shape; :whitecheck:
(ii) between 135 metres and 185 metres in length; :whitecheck:
(iii) and between 110 metres and 155 metres in width. :whitecheck:

(b) A white line shall be marked on the ground to identify the Playing Surface. This white line shall be drawn in the shape of an arc from the behind post (refer Law 3.3 below) at one end of the Playing Surface to the behind post at the other end of the Playing Surface. The white lines which are drawn are called the Boundary Line. :whitecheck:
Fair enough

Do you discount the efforts of Geelong in the 50’s?
Won flags and had an incredible run.
Do you ignore all the Geelong players who tried hard but failed in the 90’s?
If you ignore the overall history of the team you support that’s showing the past players zero respect.
Recent efforts are meaningless in 50 years going by your logic

The Bailey Smith trade should have never been allowed due to the pitiful compensation to the Bulldogs.
This trade bullying by Geelong is a black mark on the game.
They get the player to say 'I only want to go to Geelong because there's too much trouble in a big city for me, please let me go there or I'll retire'.

Have a cry about it.

The Dogs got Matt Kennedy, a 20 disposal a game player who contributed nearly 2 goals a game across goals/assists combined, and a first round draft pick who has had a taste of AFL (Cooper Hynes) at 19 and has averaged 20 touches a game in the VFL.

Effectively, the Cats gave up picks 17 and 38 in exchange for Smith and pick 45.
Is that a fair trade? For the 2nd Brownlow favourite?
Answer: No. It was a rort.

There's also an accusation that Geelong get local juniors to lay low so that they can draft them later in the draft.

An accusation from who, you?

Who are these local juniors? Tom Stewart? He laid so low he gave up 5-6 years of earning $600k a season so we could take him later in his career. Yeah that seems likely.

Ollie Dempsey the local junior from Melbourne? Hmm. Ok.

Max Holmes from famous Geelong junior club Sandringham? Oh ok.

Mark Blicavs who we got to ā€˜lay low’ in the junior club ā€˜Athletics Australia’? Yeah ok. Seems a normal route.

Mark O’Connor and Oisin Mullin? Yeah we got them to hide down in the Geelong suburb of Ireland.

Lawson Humphries we got in touch with and hid away in the Geelong suburb of Western Australia.

Zac Guthrie from the Calder Cannons in Melbourne? Oh ok they’re a Geelong club too.

Shaun Mannagh who decided to agree to waiting until he was 27 to start making a living from AFL? Ok that seems likely.

Connor O’Sulivan from Albury? Geelong goes right to the Murray River these days I heard.

No you’ve put a lot of thought into this.

Tell me, when did you decide to go from thinking all these players were shit, to thinking suddenly they’re all really good footballers that we just hid away in random pockets of Greater Geelong and deceived the football world into thinking they were ordinary until it came to our turn to draft them - often in the rookie draft etc?

Answer: No. It was a rort.

Was he the second Brownlow favourite last year? That’s interesting. I wish I’d known, I’d have had a bet.

Didn’t you give up pick 27 and a future second rounder for North Melbourne’s first pick in this year’s draft?

Oh yeah:

No, we have really rorted the trade table.

You ripped the Bulldogs off. Everyone knew he was a great player. He should have gone to a lower ranked team for the integrity of the comp.

No he wasn’t. He was a decent player who’d never achieved anything.

Everyone knows you ripped the Kangaroos off.

Your pick should have stayed with them for the integrity of the comp. You should stay off the internet for the integrity of society.

This draft is very weak and North expected to finish higher.
But seriously something needs to done about Geelong getting players without giving proper compensation.

No, it doesn’t. We have made trades for 3 decent name players in 10 years and 1 of them had never even been an AA player before and hadn’t kicked a ball in 18 months. You need to develop the emotional skills to cope with the dealings of a football team. For someone so concerned with things like politics as evidenced by the flag in your avatar, you should be able to separate issues like real life, and sport.
