I was trying to be funny. Though according to my 18 yr old daughter, I’m better off just giving up.

A Geelong win depends upon players approaching the game as if they’re playing a Top Four team.

In the past Cats had a tendency to lose to teams lower on the ladder, following wins. Whether it was from complacency + arrogance, or teams measure their development playing us, Cats must begin this game on their terms.

Hawks will come out blazing after an embarrassing demolition by Demons.

With our Kittens, this is a blockbuster game for them to experience, at the MCG + against a historical rival. Terrific for their development.

We were known for winning Q4s. Playing catch up is so bad for our nerves! Still, Hawks only won eight Q4s in 2023.
While our kicking efficiency is excellent in Q4s, as in game against Saints - 25% in forward half + Cats - 58%, we need to play four dominating quarters. Player fitness has improved so far this season, we should be able to achieve it, despite injuries + younger players in the team.

Accurate goal kicking is essential. Very inaccurate playing Saints - 10.16.76, but they were too. Also inaccurate in Crows game - 14.12.96.
Hawks were inaccurate playing Bombers with 7.9.51. Demons 5.8.38

Cats averaged 114.5 points in wins last season, ranking second.

Our control in forward half is vital + Holmes was the strength with 414m in Saints game.

Scoring goals from stoppages, which we did in Crows game. Five of six goals were from stoppages in that game. In Q2 Crows had 24 I50s to our 11, fortunately their goal kicking was inaccurate.
Bombers killed Hawks in stoppages by scoring 29 points.

Taking advantage of I50s + scoring. Playing Crows, we dominated 18 to nine.

Applying tackling pressure in our I50. Q1 Crows we were 16-3, Parfitt had four.

Importantly, Stewart + Kolo are producing intercept marks.

Scoring goals from defence MF chains. Geelong ranked second in 2023.

Hawks capitalise at turnovers, scoring 24 points in Bombers game.

Without Danger, our MF will be weakened.
Stanley’s hand or leg injury, with rumoured amputations, seems unlikely.

Pathetic by the AFL. The teams for Saturday used to be announced at 5pm on Thursdays. Then Channel 7 used the leverage of their massive TV rights deal with the AFL to get first announcement of teams selections on their 6pm Thursday nightly news (6.20, the start of their sport segment). So now maybe the announcement of the teams for every game is at the whim of Channel 7.

Our team would have been named by the MC on Friday afternoon at the latest.

What in the actual F is going on with tickets for this game.

There's literally nothing left to purchase.

That's why I am not going. There are bugger all tickets left. Ticketek is giving the impressiion it is a sellout. Hard to believe 80,000 + will rock up to the game but the ticketing points in that direction.

imagine if gary ablett jr was 6'7 with the same skills. well, he wasn't and still great. just like miers is.

What an absurd comparison. GA Jnr had no obvious flaws in his game, he was sublime on both sides of his body, could kick 50m set shots over the mark, could kick 50m around his body from the boundary line, would deliver perfectly weighted kicks to leading forwards and he hardly ever lost his feet in contests. Being taller would have hindered his game. Miers has no left side and cannot kick over the mark and cannot make the distance from over 35m out. Miers is a shadow of GA Jnr and hence has a lot of potential to improve his game. He's effective with his quirky but limited game but that's it.

It is bizarre that Sunday games have their teams announced on Thursday at 6:30 but Monday's game will only have teams announced the night before. Why?
