Geelong vs pies final should not be at the mcg.

Yes exactly, and if Collingwood finished 1st and Geelong 4th we'd be playing at G. So what's the point finishing 1st other than having everyone whinge about all the unfair advantages Geelong have?
I'm happy to play at the G but there is no advantage to Geelong for finishing first and it can't be argued that there is.
Rather than arguing whether the game should be at GMHBA (because that becomes an argument about attendance etc), the better question might be - Does the higher ranked team deserve an advantage?

You avoid travelling to another state, and avoid playing 2nd and 3rd in week1, so should have easiest path to a PF.

But yes the current finals system has watered down the advantage given to minor premier (especially the Victorian based sides) compared to previous finals systems.

Old final 5, minor premier a week off and watch 2nd v 3rd battle it out for right to play 1st in 2nd semi final.

First final 8, minor premier only had to beat 8th to get to PF.

Ok, fair point. Let me rephrase- 14 games at the MCG plus finals. This week Collingwood, “the away side- who scraped into the top-four” are playing their 15th game at the MCG this season vs Geelong, “the home side- who finished top of the ladder” who are playing their 6th game at the MCG this season.

Then stop selling your home games to Kardinia Park. No different to Hawthorn in 2018, played Richmond in the Qualifying final in their 10th game at the MCG that year, while Richmond was playing their 15th. If they didn't sell home games to Tasmania, they would of played there more.

Funny that Richmond insisted on hosting their semi final against the Saints, in 2020, at the much smaller Metricon Stadium- approximately the same distance from the ‘Gabba as the MCG is to KP. Needless to say, Richmond’s was granted.
And it was only 2/3 full, with 14,000 showing up. It’s almost like the AFL knew there was a pandemic happening.

I also think the AFL was trying to protect the surface of the heavily used (that season) Gabba because it was hosting a GF two weeks later.

Two conferences works well

A Melbourne conference - 9 Melbourne teams.

A non-Melbourne conference - 9 non-Melbourne teams.

That way Geelong never has to play at the G, and would get finals at CatPark against the other non-Melbourne teams.

Everybody wins.
Why would you seperate conferences by melbourne and non melbourne teams? The only problem with a 9 team conference is you need to have 25 games which is 3 two many. A 3 group conference of 6 teams works better in that there is only 22 games. Twice against conference opponents and once against non conference opponents.

Call it what you want, but when tickets went on sale Tiger fans supporters snapped up the membership allocation and then when they went on sale to the general public Tiger fans snapped up what was left. Tiger fans were ready. You chumps down Cry-o Bay though... all you had come match day was "there were too many of them and they were too loud".

or maybe its cos the game was at your home and it was too far for many geelong families to travel at night with kids. Families cant arrive home at 1am with kids. Plus many adults dont want to get home that late either.

Na go proper NFL, dont even bother playing the other conference until GF.

That way Geelong can have all home games at CatPark and Melbourne based fans will be relieved from Geelong bleating.

Everyone wins.

In 1956 Melbourne had a population of 1.66 million and built a massive 100,000+ capacity stadium

In 2017 Perth had a population of 2.2 million yet could only build a 60,000 capacity boutique stadium

Pretty obvious where the GF should be held each year
The issue isn`t where the GF should be played...it`s how that becomes a huge advantage to MCG tenanted clubs ..and what should /could be done to even that up a bit....

Plenty of Geelong players have plenty of experience at the MCG. I’d also suggest that more knowledge is learnt about how a ground plays in the first 10 games than the next 100.

Oh boohoo. You don’t think Richmond fans travelling from Craigieburn or Cranbourne didn’t get home after midnight? Maybe leave the kids at homeIt was a final, go the extra yard. If you don’t then don’t complain when others are prepared too.

How many Tiger members live as far away from the MCG as Geelong members? I'd say it's about 1:5 and that's being generous.

"boohoo"? Yes. We are at a significant disadvantage. Thank you for finally recognising it.

Some live close, some live far. Plenty made the effort.

Like I mentioned earlier, I think the biggest reason Geelong fans stayed away was because they thought the win was a given and were thinking they’d just spend the time, effort and money on a prelim/GF ticket. Boohoo indeed.

Lol. we have mistreated geelong so much by making them play so many games away when they should of been at geelong that you now have experience and its no longer mistreatment.

thats the argument you want to go with? Did you think this through?

Sigh. Yes some tigers supporters live in the outer suburbs of melbourne and take an hour to get in. But do you get that not all geelong supporters live in the centre of geelong? Many live far out west or down south deep on the bellarine peninsula. Our star player lives in Moggs creek. it takes these fans nearly an hour just to get to geelong let alone the extra hour and half to get from geelong to the mcg.

So Geelong supporters only live in Geelong and (further) surrounds? And no Richmond supporters live in Geelong or other regional areas?

Wtf has Dangerfield got to do with anything? Is this now a matter of fairness because the players live too far away?? **** me this complaint is like red wine, it just gets better and better every year. 😆

Well it is a real difference. The players of the "home team" will need to travel to the MCG compared to their regular place of work. Collingwood players will do what they do everyday, walk down, go to their favourite coffee shop, whatever.

So now you're just telling us how we think? I can guarantee you that we did not just think we would win and that had nothing to do with it. You believe what you want though, no point arguing with you when you can read the minds of all of us.

It's not an advantage against the team we are playing though. You can say "well you don't have to travel and your playing 4th" both facts but as the higher ranked team we have no advantage over the side we are playing. Should we?

Still don’t get your point. As if they don’t serve coffee on the bus.

Guess what?
Geelong are a Victorian team, that's how it works for Victorian teams, no real advantage unless playing a non-Vic team.
