Tom Redden, Heath Grundy, and Ruory Kirkby didn't get picked up, perhaps rookie list spots beckon?

afl.com comments on Prismall:

"Medium inside midfielder who reads the game well, has neat disposal skills and makes good decisions. Victoria Metro representative in 2004 and topped off a very good year finishing runner-up in Jets Best and Fairest. From Werribee"

Brent Prismall heads down the highway...perhaps abit too early?

Interesting but as we have discussed before "Best Available" is tainted by your own opinion. I had a look at my comments on him after the Natu18's and I might agree with you...

#1 Brent PRISMALL 14/07/86 184 83
Another good link player good thru the middle and driving it into the forward 50 probably a multitude of this sort around and its tough pick the best but he seems to have a nice balance about which I like. Handy

..but Bomber , and who are we to argue, places a high premium on dispossal. No more Sprigg's,No more Clarke's is his motto. I remember what took my eye, watching Prissmall, was his balance after receiving the ball, (he was to me an outside player). In a way similiar to Buckley he ran around the back of the pack and within 10 straightened and kicked it a driving 50 into the Forwardline(no floppsy high ball floaters). He looked to be a more polished outside player but his kicking might be able to replace Bemmer. At the time of the U18 there were probably several player of this sort, like Ryan Bain but I think Prismall has the best dispossal. Not sure about all the results at the camp but he after disspossal pace is his criteria so I don think hes slow.

Im still a bit spewy that the Swans took Moore at 31 but I yet againg back our RM. Let the others take the names , we make the names

I'm not overly concerned with his supposed lack of pace. The kid sounds like he has fantastic skills, which is something I place ahead of pure speed. Looks like he's more a footballer than an athelete, which I'd be fairly happy about.

Surprised a few other players didn't picked up, namely the likes of Grundy, Kirkby, Bain, Sharp, Redden to name a few.

Our rookie selections loom as interesting ones.

Agree , plenty left in the Rookies, amazing that Kirkby missd but he was very light, just like Mackie. I agree that good skill is far more important than blistering pace and I dont remember BP as slow but I suprised at the AFL.com assessment of being an inside mid. Now maybe he could not play that way with JMoore in the VicMet side but to me he was a smooth outside player like McCloud (Crows) or a Lapin (Brisb), not an inside player.Maybe an old fashioned Centreman like Geoff Raines would be a good comparrison. Guys like KK and Otto would be smilling at a pick that focus's on ball delievery.

Geelong has used its two ‘live’ draft picks at the National AFL draft to add Brent Prismall and Matt Egan to its list. Prismall was selected with pick 32 while the Cats utilized selection 62 to snare Egan.

The club had already utilized pick 48 to bring Nathan Ablett to the club under the father-son rule.

Prismall is a medium size midfielder from the Western Jets. He reads the game well, has good skills and is seen as a good decision maker. He played under new VFL coach Leigh Tudor at the Jets. Prismall represented Victorian Metro in the national under 18 championships this year.

Prismall is 184 cm and weighs in at 83kg. He turned 18 in July of this year.

Egan is well known to Geelong supporters, having spent the past two seasons with the Cats VFL team. Egan played 11 games in 2003 and 17 last season. He earned selection in the VFL team of the year in 2004 and was fifth in best & fairest voting.

Egan is 21 and stands at 194cm. He weighs 99kg.

They got the Prismall profile up quick enough!

Are the profiles of other draftees already up?

Not that I can see; only Hawthorn and us by the looks of things.

Perhaps in such an even draft , inside knowledge from Tudor and having had Egan at Geelong was enough to tip the scales.
Tudor would have an idea what his work rate, personality, determination etc. is and if hed make a good addition to our quality young list.
Egans stats say it all. VFL FB, 21 yer old 194/99. ready to rock and roll and WILL play for us next year.

Only saw a few VFL games last year, so some more info on Egan wouldbe great.

Prismall was a decent selection IMHO. He looks like he has some class to become a Forward \ Midfielder.

With the Rookie draft now coming up im hoping that Redden and Juniper are around for our selection. Kirkby would be good aswell.

Overall a solid set of selections by the panel. A Middy, A defender and a Tall foward

Wow, big weekend for my old school MacKillop. Anthony on Idol tonight and Brent gets picked up in the draft.

Good luck to the kid. There was a feature on him in the local paper in Werribee a few months back and he came across as a pretty level-headed kind of guy - knows what it's gonna take to make it. Welcome aboard.

So all we have left is the rookie draft in which we have 3 selections? i think.
does anyone have any ideas on the players or type of players we will be after?
I would have thought a couple of local geelong falcons boys would come into calculations such as sheringham, dwyer, moloney, foss, watts

First selection in the rookie draft is Jarrod Garth from the Tassie Mariners.

Thanks to GH's profile:

Jarrod Garth

Details:
Club: Clarence/Tasmania
DOB: 23 January 1986 Hgt: 188cm Wgt: 93kg
Position: Forward
Natural Foot: Left

Honours:
Tasmania 2003, 2004
State Screening Camp 2004

Strengths: Garth is a solid forward who can player taller than his 188cm but is no slouch when the ball hits the deck either. He is very strong in a one-on-one marking contest, but knows where the goals are and can snap some rippers.

Is very much a burst player and can tear a game apart in a few minutes. Has a booming kick on him and can be difficult to match up on. Apparently tested well for endurance at the state screening camp and kicked over 90 goals in all competitions in 2004.

Weaknesses: Already 93kg, there must be queries over whether Garth will be able to dominate marking contests like he does now at AFL level, and his scope for improvement. Also a query over his discipline, can get distracted and drift out of the game.

Footydraft.com comment: Can look like a very good prospect at times, only to go missing soon afterwards. Probably worth a shot on a rookie list.

Again from GH:

Nick Batchelor

Details:
Club: Norwood
DOB: 11 September 1986 Hgt: 182cm Wgt: 68kg
Position: Wing
Natural Foot: Right

Honours:
South Australia 2004
State Screening Camp 2004

Strengths: Nick is a lightly built wingman with good speed and a penchant for carrying the footy. He is very dangerous in space and his trademark move is a 30m run followed by a goal on the run.

Batchelor is good overhead for his size, has clean hands and is prepared to use his left foot. Knows where the goals are.

Weaknesses: At only 68kg, would need a few seasons in the gym before been ready for AFL. Tends to play unaccountable football and can struggle if tightly checked by his direct opponent.

Footydraft.com comment: Can look very good on his day but found the going tougher in the final two games of the carnival when he was tightly marked. Worth a rookie listing.

Last but not least, Geelong rookied Tim Sheringham from the Geelong Falcons.

Tim Sheringham

Details:
Club: Bell Park/Geelong
DOB: 26 August 1986 Hgt: 180cm Wgt: 74kg
Position: Half Back Flank/Onballer
Natural Foot: Right

Honours:
Victoria Country 2004
Interchange in TAC Cup Team of the Year 2004
Geelong Best and Fairest 2004
State Screening Camp 2004

TAC Stats:
2003: 19 games, 1 goal, 12.7 PPG
2004: 17 games, 12 goals, 23.1 PPG

Strengths: Sheringham had an excellent season for the Falcons, polling well in the Morrish Medal and picking up a stack of possessions in the midfield and half-back. Tim is an excellent kick and hits a lot of targets.

Can kick on either foot and is good at the clearances. Also a good leader, captaining Geelong this season. Had a good carnival for Vic Country.

Weaknesses: Again, nothing spectacular about his game and there is a question mark over his pace.

Footydraft.com comment: Definitely should be looked at late in the draft or for a rookie listing such is the quality of his foot disposal.
