how the **** do essendon get a thursday night game lmao, unbelievable that the drug cheats get prime time slots even though they were ******* poo last year
It gets my goat that CARLTON was gifted an AFLW license and Essendon are gifted a blockbuster Thursday night match on top of their ANZAC day blockbuster.

It's a slap across the face to us, especially considering that we get NO Thursday or Friday Night matches and we get lumbered with 10 unpopular Sunday matches. Maybe we should cheat. Apparently arrogantly flaunting the rules guarantees that you get benefits that rules-abiding clubs simply do not.

We need to campaign strongly - maybe on the back of the exciting Geelong match - that we get at least one Friday Night match and at least as many blockbusters as the cheating clubs

I don't know Sunday games are all that unpopular, our last Sunday home game nearly drew 50,000 people.

Parenting 101 - the kids that misbehave get all the attention.
Not worth being a stand- up citizen in the AFL apparently.

The sad fact is that despite their cheating, clubs like the blues and the bombers will always have huge audiences in general. Before I got into AFL, I remember seeing on the news in NSW that AFL was a popular sport and the two most popular rivals were Carlton and Collingwood.

As saints fans, it's our duty to create a legacy of enormous support for our club, even more than previous years. We're a foundation club with as much potential to be a powerhouse as any other, and the years of mismanagement and failure hopefully disappearing in our rear view mirror. The club can only do so much, fans have to create a vibe that mixes with the improving performance of the team/club to get new supporters on board to stay.

Goes back to chicken and egg argument re blockbusters and big clubs.

Certainly I think that the current set up perpetuates the status quo.

Think we deserve a couple of Friday night matches and at least one marquee match with high exposure.

We are playing an exciting brand of football and are getting our act together a bit more off field.

People spout stuff like a strong carlton is great for the afl. I think stronger smaller teams could be great for the afl as well

To be fair the fixture was determined 2 or 3 months before the Essendon players were banned so it would have been a huge upheaval to make wholesale changes to those games involving Essendon and even changing Anzac Day would have been a huge decision given how many people would plan their events around an Ess v Coll game. In any case it appears the AFL would rather sacrifice the integrity of their competition than upset peoples' plans.

The AFL have said they want Essendon to be strong again as soon as possible so they are unlikely to take prime TV slots off them. It really is one rule for the haves and another for the have-nots which just widens the financial divide.

To be honest there is some Derp at channel 7 who sits there while they do the fixture and says "I only want Collingwood , Richmond, Essendon and Carlton games". Serve's them right.
Even if Essendon are half reasonable I and the followers of most other clubs have no special fixation with Essendon.
Even though there are a lot of supporters, there are MORE non-supporters.

One of the best things about the Saints beating Geelong was that we put on a terrific show on one of our few TV appearances this year.

The Western Bulldogs Football Club confirms that it has dealt with an incident in the last several weeks involving two of its players; Tom Boyd and Zaine Cordy.

The incident involved an altercation between Tom and Zaine, in which both players were affected by alcohol.

The Club is strongly against any form of violent behaviour and is extremely disappointed in the actions of both players, particularly by the actions of Tom.

The Club has responded by invoking a range of sanctions and other measures:

  • - It has required Tom and Zaine to apologise and explain their conduct to their teammates and colleagues
  • - It has required Tom to undergo appropriate counselling
  • - It has suspended Tom and Zaine from AFL selection until the Club deems it appropriate for both to return
  • - It has imposed the maximum available fine of $5000 in respect of the relevant unacceptable aspects of Tom’s behaviour
Tom and Zaine have accepted these sanctions, and they have all been implemented.

Additionally, Tom has volunteered a significant personal contribution of time and money to a not for profit organisation focused on the prevention of social violence.

Tom and Zaine have committed to the Club that there will be no repetition of such behaviour and that they will atone to their teammates and the Club.

The Club accepts the sincerity of their remorse and commitment. We will continue to fully support both players.

The Club will have no further comment to make on the matter.

Thats timely as there both spuds the club doesnt need to pick them

Going to go down as the worst trade in AFL history, will be a 20 goal a year forward in his prime

dogs fans starting to worry about big terence boyd, think he'll develop into a real battler 20 goal a year forward
Very good reason.
Not much fight in them on the main board over the news.
Seems like it is finally dawning on them the repercussions of the silly money paid for a kid with potential.
Migjt as well have kept Liam Jones and Ayce Cordy

So Boyd is the only one of the two that copped counselling, a fine & payment to a charity organisation. He's obviously the one mainly in the wrong.
