It made a nice change to see us going backwards with intensity and purpose, rather than the lacklustre way we usually do it.
Agree. It topped all of our direct ball movement then and for years to come. That alone overcame any direction-based criticism

Even for Dees R1 games I like playing a different team each year, makes it more interesting even if it’s usually an interstate side. Don’t really see the appeal for traditional games except for the ones where the two clubs actually started off the tradition of playing on a given day, like QB, ANZAC eve/day and Easter Monday, which repeated R1 clashes certainly do not qualify as
I'd be happy for all the blockbusters to be rotated to be honest.

Fair call we have been terrible for most QB clashes, but at least we're not the first game of the year. It's such an uninspiring start- a replay of the GF would be great IMO

I think at least have two teams from the top 4 or 6 so the odds are it will be a great game. I don't think it needs to be a gf replay, do that later imo. Even play it interstate it's a national comp ffs.

Meanwhile, the Demons are increasingly excited about the form of James Jordon, who is a strong chance of being included in the round one line-up against Fremantle if his pre-season form continues in the Community Series match against the Western Bulldogs.

Jordon is a tough midfielder with good endurance who has been on the list for two seasons, having joined the list as a 17-year-old when the Demons picked him with selection 33 in the 2018 national draft.

He was considered a draft bolter at the time as he had played just seven under-18 games with the Oakleigh Chargers in his draft year, having moved down from Yarrawonga to attend Caulfield Grammar. But he looks set to prove an astute selection.

If Jordon is selected for round one he will continue a Demons trend that has lasted for the past 13 seasons, with at least one player chosen to make their debut for Melbourne in round one since 2007.

One of the footy programs was spouting a theory that players entering their 4th season "go pro" and can make a big difference to a team's fortunes. They used the 4th year improvement of Franklin, Riewoldt and a few others as examples as well as the role the 2012 draft crop (Macrae, Stringer, Hrovat, Hunter) played in the Dogs 2016 flag.
Our players entering their 4th year are Spargo, Fritsch, Petty and Baker. Our forward half could really do with Spargo making a big leap in his output, and Fritsch staying on his learning gradient would be good to see as well. Can Baker put it together to be a legit option on a wing or as a runner between the arcs? We're not crying out for a key back, so Petty's development isn't as important to our short-term results but it would be great to see him get some more games and provide legitimate depth for May/Lever.

I was getting all excited until I read Spargo, Fritsch, Petty and Baker........ buzz kill

He's a train on player
By the look of his form playing forward for the blues he’s a G-train on player.

Would you like me to repost this in a couple of years when the names read Jackson, Pickett and Rivers?

Actually prefer if you went back 14 years rather than 4 and talked us through Cale Morton, Jack Grimes, Addam Maric, Kyle Cheney, Tom McNamara, Stef Martin, Trent Zomer, Austin Wonaeamirri, Jake Spencer and Shane Valenti pls
