Hello internet football friends, as you may know I released a book a couple of years ago about the 1964 premiership and its unfortunate aftermath. It's reached the end of its life in bookstores but I've snatched a few copies before they can be pulped Alan Partridge style to sell directly at a discount. It will include a separate bonus chapter about the making of the book and how I went a little bonkers in the lead-up to the Grand Final.

Mods - please delete if this is an illegal post. Otherwise, you can get single copies here or DM me for multiple orders. If you already have the book and want the extra chapter DM me your email address and I'll send it.

Yes. many many dialects, I believe. So the kids at school, could learn in depth basics of the local indigenous language, as the 2nd language.

Stuff the chinese languages.
We should only learn them, if were forced to.

There's not enough resources for that. Chinese for example would have multiple text books, youtube ect. Kids already learn enough about indigenous culture and history there would be no point learning some language that barely anyone speaks.

When I was a kid where our education on indigenous Australia was basically "60,000 years of human history occurred and then the First Fleet arrived." It's a little better now but still extremely limited.

My son for some reason learns sign language in grade 1

Apparently it was Italian from grade 1 but last year the italian teacher dies suddenly and they couldn't get a replacement so they swapped the curriculum to sign language

Sign language is probably more useful imo

Let's be honest Australia's LOTE programs are a total joke and most people educated in Aus wouldn't be able to string two sentences together in another language unless they actively persue it. Kids start learning one language primary school for an hour once a week before switching to a totally different language in high school which they can drop as an elective in year 9. Meanwhile kids in other countries are doing immersion classes in their second or third language by the time they're 5 years old.

Yeah I barely learnt anything about indigenous culture, certainly learnt about the first fleet, but really had no idea about stolen gen ect now they learnt about the impact of Australia day and have indigenous people come to school ect.

It's definitely a good skill, Italian isn't exactly a global language.

Yeah my understanding of learning English in Chinese schools is that only English is spoken in the classroom from the teacher. I think Scandinavian countries learn English because their universities are all done in English, could be wrong but even so they speak excellent English. I work at a school the kids learn Chinese, they hate it but I always say it could be useful.

Not a monetary gain, probably.

But a huge cultural gain, for us all.

This monetary type culture has only happened/evolved, since the late 60's. And we are virtually at its end now. So the monetary culture has delivered us to the Me, Me, Me, style of Life.

i have witnessed the growth of fences to 7 feet high, as opposed to the old say 4ft-6inch high fences, as an example. As a non-socially minded, and 'Greed' self-minded sort of culture, we now have in Australia.

We have moved well away from the 'Egalitarian' nature'd Australia, to a money driven, credit wise, and 'wealth alone', driven type people.

IMO. we are witnessing the end of Capitalism's, and of Communism's era's. That we are right in the midst of they're peaking, and dying breaths, as we have known them for the past 6 decades.

Witness the possible anti-christ's of this time.? Putin/Jinping/Trump/Asad/Khamenei/Fattah al-Burhan/Hamdan Dagalo/Akhundzada, etc.

I believe we are at a time in history, where people of all beliefs have become so like-minded and oriented, and at the same time opposed to the alternate thinkers of this world.

I ask you, where do 'the meek' operate, within this opposition world.?

There is a saying; 'Do what we can, where we are'... in a creative way.

Some are trying to control others in a negative and destructive way; whilst some are trying to 'free others' from they're fear-driven, traumatised & oppressed lives.
... see our 1st nations peoples.

I grew up befriending the Greeks and Italians, at primary school. They were the more humble types.

Nowadays, I am so disappointed in many of them, as they do not see themselves as Australians.
But of either Greek, or Italian.

The Greeks, even though they're parents were born in Cypress, and they were born here in Australia, still to this day, call themselves Greek; and they name they're kids as Greek.

The Italians as well, indulge in the old country as they're pride and joy; and as they're origin of Identity.

This hit home with me some decades back, when I and my mates were going to the boxing day test match, against the Windies. One of my best mates came out as a West Indies supporter on the way to the match, and this really through me. Shocked me.

I couldn't believe it, that this country had done so much for him, and he started to show his opposition to this land. It was an 'eye-opener' for me, at the time.

Truly disappointing.

Haha, when I first read this I assumed you were making a joke about Italians only being able to talk when gesturing with their hands.

Was disappointed it was a real story that ended in death. I think that is actually an exception skill to teach as a language to a young child. He will also learn how to be very dramatic and expressive with his facial gestures/expressions.

Same here...

This is just a money driven exercise in patronising the Chinese.

All these european and asian languages do not need any support to exist; But our 1st Nations people do NEED our support, in keeping they're native tongues alive.

We are at the precipice of extinctions; both of animals, and of cultures. Not the 1st Nations fault's, but Our faults, and of the Roman Churches desire to dominate all Cultures.

I still have hope for Yze.
Because he's currently coaching one of the biggest underperforming mids in the league? If he wasn't an ex Melbourne player like Chaplin he'd be getting roasted right now

he's got off lightly- one of the greatest midfields "on paper" with one of the best rucks of all time and we get done out of the middle every week. it's hyperbole in Australia but if this was the NBA, Goody & Yze wouldve been gone after we got bounced last year.

Yze's record has been pretty good, at the Hawks and at Melbourne. The midfield is underperforming, but none of us know why they're setting up the way they are or who is making the selection calls.

After round one, it looked like we had an unstoppable mix in the centre. Someone decided not to keep it. I don't know the logic behind that, but I can't think of any reason that Yze want to would move away from it.

Yze at the start of the season (paraphrasing): 'We want to have more of a midfield mix. The numbers back that up and our primary mids were cooked by finals. It can be hard to stick to as a coach BUT WE HAVE TO STICK TO IT'

Reckon that tells you who is driving that growing lack of midfield mix.

But sure, let's all just blame Yze because we have no idea what is happening behind the scenes.

Its either Goodwin or Yze, and naturally we'd like to have faith that both of them are on board with what is ostensibly a sensible change. For all we know, Yze sees moving Gus in last week as changing the mix and that's why he insisted that he keep chasing Butters for three quarters of the game. May have been at that point that Goodwin said "no, we're playing the big three", which itself was shit. **** knows, but what we do know is that something isn't working.

Chaplin is our only decent assistant. I love Yze but don't rate him currently.
Who knows mate, one thing people here who are actual regulars would know tho is I hate praising or criticising assistants cause no one here especially those who paste a fluff piece from the start of the year would really know what's working and isn't. The midfield is underperforming, is that Goodys overall coaching, midfield coach failing, the fitness coach etc. No one knows. I do know the only reason anyone thinks Yze could be a good coach is because he was a favourite player of ours.
