Bit of a disaster leading into the season.

Obviously has a bit going on in his life so good luck to him there.

“GEOFF Walsh has stepped down as St Kilda's head of football four months after he was appointed to the role.

The club says that the long-time football administrator is moving away from the club due to family reasons, with Walsh to finish at the Saints this week.”

I wonder where the club are going to get Walsh's replacement from?

Obviously Misson is highly thought of, but does he have the business or list management experience to do the role permanently? Can he manage RTB, SOS and Gubby if required?

I cant imagine their would be too many available experienced football managers not already employed in the industry?

David Noble would be the obvious replacement if we want someone with experience in the role.

He did very well with his tenure at the Lions to get them up and about again.

Currently the CEO of Dick Johnson racing

St Kilda has suffered an early-season setback with recently appointed head of football Geoff Walsh to leave the club due to family reasons.
Walsh was thrust into the position after the Saints’ 2022 season and was part of the coaching panel to appoint Ross Lyon.
He had made a strong start to his new role but his family situation changed and made it untenable for him to continue in the job.
“I have really enjoyed my time with the club but with my personal situation very recently changing, I now need to focus on addressing that, which unfortunately will preclude me from devoting the necessary time to a full-time role in football,” Walsh said.
“While I will be stepping away, I will still be keeping a close eye on the Saints and staying in touch to support the club where possible.”

It comes just days after the Saints appointed former assistant coach Stephen Silvagni and long time recruiting specialist Graeme Allan to its list management team.
The Saints will now be on the hunt for a new football boss just weeks out from the first lot of pre-season matches under its new look coaching set up led by Lyon.

It’s understood current high performance boss David Misson will step up in an interim capacity.
Former AFL official Tess McManus will add AFL football operations to her role as head of AFLW.

Saints chief executive Simon Lethlean thanked Walsh for his time at the club and understood his decision.

“The club respects Geoff’s decision to do what is best for he and his family. We have been incredibly fortunate to acquire his expertise and skills, even if only for a short time,” Lethlean said.
“Geoff’s knowledge and experience has allowed the club to make a strong start at implementing the recommendations of the Review and embracing a new coach as well as many new staff within the program.
“Geoff and his family are now part of the St Kilda family. We wish them all the very best and look forward to remaining in contact.”

Silvagni to spearhea

It's a real shame. He seemed like a great appointment.

Hopefully we can get someone else in who is willing to make tough calls. That seems to be the big reason we got Walsh.

Hope everything is ok with him.

Another important appointment coming up for Bassat.

People using Geoff Walsh'sfamily situation as an opportunity to tell the world how useless St Kilda fc are can GAGF, pardon my Australian
Pathetic whataboutism’s from the peanut gallery as usual.
Don’t employ someone (an all time great) in case of xyz happening, yet the same people will slam the club for not drafting a player because his bed isn’t made. Which is it?

We don’t have all the facts to make broad-brush statements, but that doesn’t stop most, does it? 😎

Bit of a stretch don't ya reckon? He said he wanted to spend time with his family months before we hired him. I hope we factored in that this might happen, otherwise we look like amateurs. You're not going to get much better than Walsh either. It's a kick in the guts.

You don't need all the facts when you can nod and wink at the confidential information only you know.

I think even knowing that it was a possibility and it coming to be, it was still worth the appointment.

He helped give us the shake up we needed and brought much needed people into the club.

Probably but if we hire him into full time work in an important role like that it tells me the expectation from the club is that he honours the contract. If we did our homework I don't think we would've put him on full time work, we probably would've contracted him out to change the place up and then leave.

I'm glad he was there for the bulk of the change but he was part of the reason Lyon came to us and so I wonder what those at the footy dept are thinking now.

Hopefully we have someone lined up that can do a similar job. It won't be as good but hopefully it's decent enough to keep us ticking along.

Do you honestly think Bassett doesn’t do homework. Seriously.

You sound fiesty! I like it.

I think we're desperate and out of ideas so going after people we know and trust. A safe but uninspired strategy in what seems like a last ditch effort to turn our fortunes around.

Walsh and Allan were the only two appointments I actually liked, and now one is gone lol. I just laugh at us now, hope Walsh and his family are alright of course but the circus seems to follow us whether we bring it on ourselves or not 😂
