Question: Have you seen any of these players play or just a few YouTube videos like most Bigfooty posters?
Question: Why does it matter to you? Do you genuinely believe that only the opinions of people who watch games live in person matter or do you just like poopooing people on the internet for not making your criteria as an amateur draft poster?

Yes it's a bit of a snide question, but it is interesting and relevant to know if a poster has seen the boys play live.

UPDATED 06/11/2021

Back for another year of fun and I guess as a West Coast fan this years draft excites me more than most others due to holding a live top 10 pick, obviously pushed out with Daicos and Darcy but I think we will still have good midfield talent to pick from at 12. Can't stress that word midfield enough either in West Coast's case.

Have a read, enjoy it, comment what you wish within reason as negativity will be frowned upon and constructive criticism will get a much better response. Happy to engage in healthy debate on my selections where my rationale isn't clear enough but don't resort to unwarranted or unnecessary personal attacks

Happy to agree to disagree and you might even sway my decision another way with a compelling argument against a player.
I'll leave post 2 and 3 as my deep dive with rationale around the first round picks but after that point from 2nd round onwards it will likely just be a player name.

PICK 1: NORTH MELBOURNE - Jason Horne Francis
PICK 2: COLLINGWOOD F/S - Nick Daicos (matching GWS bid)
PICK 3: WESTERN BULLDOGS F/S - Sam Darcy (matching GWS bid)
PICK 4: GWS - Mac Andrew
PICK 5: GOLD COAST - Finn Callaghan
PICK 6: ADELAIDE - Josh Rachele
PICK 7: HAWTHORN - Josh Ward
PICK 8: FREMANTLE - Nasiah Wanganeen - Milera
PICK 9: RICHMOND - Ben Hobbs
PICK 10: FREMANTLE - Jye Amiss

PICK 11: ST. KILDA - Neil Erasmus
PICK 12: WEST COAST - Josh Goater
PICK 13: ESSENDON - Josh Sinn
PICK 14: PORT ADELAIDE - Matthew Johnston
PICK 15: GWS - Arlo Draper
PICK 16: BRISBANE - Josh Gibcus
PICK 17: RICHMOND - Campbell Chesser
PICK 18: SYDNEY - Darcy Wilmot
PICK 19: MELBOURNE - Jacob Van Rooyen
PICK 20: BRISBANE - Tyler Sonsie
This is a very good phantom draft, i think Johnson goes higher on the night, as i feel he's better than Goater and a local WA kid for those Western Australia sides. It seems like you've tried to select players to clubs who have been linked there, and mixed it up with who's best available for those clubs. I think the Gibcus draft range you have him is fair as thats where his talent should be ranked in this years pool but probably goes in the top 10 or even top 5.

Question: Why does it matter to you? Do you genuinely believe that only the opinions of people who watch games live in person matter or do you just like poopooing people on the internet for not making your criteria as an amateur draft poster?
Well yes, it matters. Otherwise, what's the whole point of doing a phantom draft? It's just a matter of reading everyone else's or afl.com.au and having a stab at the order.

Phantom drafters generally watch a mixture of full games and highlights packages. Anyone is welcome to post it as their own thread as long as they put in the effort of explaining what they did and why.

If you just want to read people taking a total stab in the dark with a few highlights videos they watched in the last week and no real explanations, use the draft predictions thread.

If you want opinions from people who definitely watch at least some games in full you want draft watchers, while draft experts are a step higher again and have experience watching regular games throughout the season for at least a few years, often paid to write for other sites and sometimes with industry contacts.

The threads are all prefixed accordingly.

Thanks very much for the informative reply. much appreciated! :)

Question: Have you seen any of these players play or just a few YouTube videos like most Bigfooty posters?

Haven’t been able to see a lot of them play correct but generally I’d like to watch state 16s or 18s games where available particularly for the non WA players.

A lot of my insights and rationale i gather from either my own thoughts or a consensus from others who I follow with write ups gained from the lads at Draft Central generally before completing myself

Cats won't take Conway with their first.

It’s very un-Geelong to go a developing ruck with their first pick I agree but think there’s still a need to fill their.

What are you thinking happens YOTC and what are your thoughts on the 2nd round haul overall?
From all reports we have drafted our next ruckman in Neale Last season.
Yet to be given that chance at VFL level to see what he has.
Wells and co have also said we will be going after Mids.
I expect 2 mids, 1 HBF and a ruck with our last our second last if a player like Conway is still available

Are you projecting that Neale becomes a #1 ruck?

We have a couple of young developing rucks already. We may consider Conway with our last pick if he's still avaiable but I think our emphasis will be on bringing young mids into the club. Like MacDonald as a pick as a consequence. Aleer similarly fills a need with Henderson retiring. I'd probably draft Long with one of the picks in your scenario.

I ver much doubt we would take two key position players.

Fair shout.

My rationale is pretty similar to why I picked Gibcus also.

Might be just my opinion but there is a KPP need in the under 22 age bracket at Brisbane with only Payne, Fullarton as a fwd / ruck and potentially Ballenden in that age group.

I’m on board with the Gibcus selection. We might have a couple of talls in our academy next year, that we look at in the rookie draft.

Tigers ruck stocks aren't that bad with Nank, Soldo, Ryan, Colina and Balta who can pinch hit, what we are in need of though is young KPP's particularly forward. Most think that our top priority though is an inside mid.

I know you've gone with best available at our 1st, but I think the same rationale that you used for the other teams could also be applied to Richmond.

Hobbs, if available, fits a need and is also best available as a mid at pick 9.
We won't take a ruckman will take 2 inside mids a half back/ Winger a tall Defender and a tall forward

Happy with Sinn at 14 and would be happy for Burgoyne to fall to pick 45 and hopefully pick up a bargain late 👍

That would be ideal, but would also the need for a small forward. Depends on who is available at each pick.
If we rank a player much higher then we will go for best available.
