***** - Great Year
**** - Good year
*** - Ok Year
** - Nothing Special
*- ******** year
& - Not rated due to injury / Rookie

Player Name – Gary Ablett
Games 2005 - 23
Season 2005 – Gary had a very up and down year this year. He struggled early on with the amount of attention he was getting from taggers. He also seemed to play for free kicks more then normal. He also showed us his natural brilliance
Rating – ****
Trade Status - Untouchable

Player Name – Nathan Ablett
Games 2005 - 4
Season 2005 – Has showed some real natural ability and awareness. If VFL form was anything to go by, he shouldn’t of played this year. Thank god he did. Questions on wether he will make it. I’m confident

Player Name – Jimmy Bartel
Games 2005 – 23
Season 2005 – Has shown how courageous he can be. Still inconsistent, but has shown so much talent its scary. Against port he cemented himself and a possible brownlow medallist in the next few years. Still out of contract.

Season 2005 – Struggled to show much in the VFL. Very light frame and seems to be afraid to go near the packs. Could develop into something, but I cant see it happening. Very quick though.

Player Name – Mark Blake
Games 2005 – 3
Season 2005 – Hmm, thought he would have come along a lot more then what he has. Showed some ability in the ruck, but is still very raw. Although the selectors seem to rate him ahead of Chambers. Next Year is make or break for young Blake

Player Name – Shannon Byrnes
Games 2005 - 19
Season 2005 – Started the year off sensationally. Gained a NAB rising star nomination. As most youngsters do, he started to fall away at the end of the year. Should be proud of how he went though this year.

Season 2005 – Has Been so unlucky due to injury. Did his shoulder 2 times this year. He will look to have a big preseason and fill the spot left by Sando next year

Player Name – Paul Chambers
Games 2005 - 8
Season 2005 – Out of favour with the selection panel. His guts is admirable, but guts doesn’t make a footy player. If the club are serious about winning a premiership, he has to be delisted.
Rating – **

Player Name – Paul Chapman

Season 2005 – Has been really unlucky with injury this year. Missed a total of 4 games. Chappy is just what Geelong needs, hard tough and dedicated. Should captain the club next year.

Player Name – Joel Corey
Games 2005 - 20
Season 2005 – Would have been AA if he didn’t miss a few games this year. Really unlucky as he has been in super form all year. Averaging over 20 disposals a game. Love the way he has played. Also signed for a lot less then what he is worth.
Rating – *****
Trade Status - Untouchable

Player Name – Mathew Egan
Games 2005 - 14
Season 2005 – What a season by Egan. VFL defender of the year last year, has slotted into the Geelong defence freeing up H and Moons. Would have won the rising star if he wasn’t to old. Should aim to play 22 games next year.

Season 2005 – The selectors love him, I don’t. This kid is the most frustrating player other then our man Kent. Makes the easy look difficult. To think we wasted a 2nd round pick in 2001 on him makes me cringe.

Season 2005 – Big hairy cat was sensational this year. Other then the VFL incident, moons was at his best. I love the way he attacks the ball and wears his heart on his sleeve. Interesting rundown and on the whole I'd say pretty accurate. Probably give H 2 stars instead of 3 due to his late form, but other than that I'd agree with your ratings.

I like the sounds of young Prismal, the thought of another Beamer is a nice idea, but the added polish and class sounds promising. Being an interstater I have no idea about his or Spencer's progress except for what I read, so it's good to see that these guys are doing well.

Buckland is an interesting one, we do need another small defender, i am not sure Callan is the answer, Hunt is more a rebounder, D Johnson is developing more as a midfielder where we need his pace, Healy's mate Will Slade is sighted more on the introductions board than on the ground.

Small and medium forwards have been killing us for 15 years for God's sake please let us find one. I would promote Buckland. Delist all the other rookies.

Fantastic effort, beat me to it!

A couple of gripes:

&'s for Ottens, D. Johnson etc? I think they definitely played enough to show their form.

*DJ was handy although will always be a backup defender. Remember Didak carved him up earlier in the year.

*If you look at Otto's games you will find he lifts the confidence of the whole side. When him and King are both fit (?query on this ever occurring) you will see a huge lift in team form.

*Koula is also a useful backup midfielder. Keep in mind players such as this would have zero trade value.

*I definitely have issues with T. sheringham being promoted as there are so many players ahead of him

*Great trade for Brogan but they would want a first rounder plus an Egan-level player

Cheers

for brogan?? that idea can get f****d then. sure, he is a premiership player and all but for a first rounder and matty egan (whom I think we all would have to rate pretty bloody highly now).

sorry to not include this in the last post but I thought I'd fly the flag for dj on this one. he has become a very good player for us. I doubted his worth at the start of the season but after watching him on friday night I now understand how valuable a fit dj is to us. definately in our best 18 imo.

I was talking to Rizzo about this post today and I think it is spot on. About Ottens having a & next to his name, he was saying that it was because he had been playing with an injury. Fair enough given it is too hard to reach your best when being held back by an injury. And as for Kent he meant that he can be one of the best in the league when he is on his game, not the best and I agree with that. How many forwards do you know that can bag 57 goals for the season without being able to kick properly :D

No1 of ne note this year

Pretty good list, I have a couple of differences of opinion, but pretty minor.

First, I would keep Chambers. Ottens and King are never going to be fit, and we need a back up ruckman. He probably won't stand on the dais in September to accept a premiership medallion, but I can see him being required for 14 games a year, given our injury prone ruck stocks.

Second, I like the idea of Chappy as captain, it had never occurred to me. I have always just thought King->Ling was the sequence. Maybe Chappy as a left-field promotion would work. If he were captain, he would have to play on the ball more, I reckon, and that would be good. I like it. I like it a lot.

Third, I don't love the strawberry hair.

Fourth, 'awesome' is way too much praise for Thurley. He got on the end of a few. I was unimpressed by his lack of tackling pressure (the second most important characteristic of a small forward). He was alright, and I would have him right on the borderline. One more year, or you're out.

Fifth, duck. Koulagirl is going to see your list at some stage. ;)

Lade is getting on and Primus is cactus. Brogan won't be going anywhere.

I would trade a first rounder and a fringe player for him, it's a weak draft and we will have a late pick. But not Egan. He is a gun.

Bartel for Brogan and Salopek? I wouldn't do any trade for Jimmy.

GM

I'd throw our 1st rounder to Port for Salopek. Doesn't have the skills we require in outstanding amounts (speed, quality ball usage), but would be a handy addition nonetheless.

If all else fails, pick Grae Grant or Shaun Higgins up with the first rounder.

You're going to have to do a little better than that mate. Paul's in contract, and it's not like the Ottens experiment did all that much to advance the idea of fixing whatever 'problems' we have with a magic injection of forwards - especially not enough to terminate a contract for...
Besides, you wouldn't want me to cry all offseason, would you?

It's looking very good for Bomba who has resumed training last week ... he will be training right through until Christmas as he as already had his end of season break!

Wojcinski will be lining up on the half back line in round 1 next season I grant u that!!!

I don't agree and either do the coaching staff. I've given up caring about some of the thoughts of supporters about him. I am glad some appreciated his improvement this year, although it was ruined as a result of his hamstring injury. He will come back better still next year.

I was very impressed with him this season. If he stayed fit I don't think he would have been dislodged from our 22
