Just watched Trading Day .... Montana suggested R1 and menegola. and King and Ralph said no... that the standard was what we got for Kelly.


I do feel its going to take a reall strong stance by us to change the way tehy think about us.



Id love to have the club to come out and put a stamp on some of this ... but we do our best stuff behind the curtain...

No Vic club will go near Treloar now, hes an emotional man and add to the fact his partner and young daughter will be away all year will have a massive impact on his footy, I think he would miss a chunk of season after it gets too difficult. I think the pies realise this and don't want another beams episode, I hope he goes north as he would be a super fit for gc, not us

I think the netball thing is a smoke screen. If we were ina position to get him on the right money and not affect our draft ideas and our target to get Cameron... then id have a serious look at him. ... but it seems we must tread very carefully we may need all the cap room we can get if we have to change gears on Cameron.

Its a bit of a laugh on Dodoro I think. You just ignore it. Surely no list manager takes him seriously

There's a bit of difference in leverage i think. Cats had a backup 1 year contract for Kelly if the trade didn't go through and were desperate to keep him. Once Cameron signalled an intention to leave GWS couldn't publicly push him out the door fast enough. Cameron can't go back for a one year deal.

We'll still pony up a fair bit for him but the fact gws has no back up option limits their leverage i think

They would have been hoping that a growth in the cap would have covered for it, Covid really messed that up. I bet there's a huge portion of that is fixed.

- GWS want to retain Cameron's services and believe they can get him to stay

"He makes no excuses for the year he had and he's really determined to put that behind him and have a fresh start at Geelong."

It's not that Cameron just wants to return to Victoria, but that he wants to come to Geelong, and right now the only hold up to that is GWS's childish behaviour. Unless Cameron or he's manger state that he's had a change of mind & wants to stay, it won't take long for the AFL & AFLPA to get involved GWS refuse to even engage in trade discussions

It could be and I think clubs would be silly not to try. But you have to consider from Jez's POV. What is Clarko or any other club offering? If he wants to live on a farm and live country life like Hawk then it's not really going to work with a Melbourne club. Also he'd want to be somewhere he's a shot at a flag. There's not many sides who need a kpf desperately whilst being in a window, is kind of a niche market for him.

If the player isn't agreeing to a trade he's not going there, and if the player does agree then it's not gws who convinced him. Kelly didn't go to freo, Danger didn't go to Melbourne. Deledio went to GWS only after we had walked away. So if a third club swoops in power to them, but I'm not sure one is waiting in the wings.

I read/heard something in the last 24/48 hours about this - renegotiated contract, backend deal to help Collingwood free up money in the short term

He signed a 4 year extension 12 months ago (through to 2025) and wouldn't be surprised if the reason for the early extension was to adjust his payment structure, and the appearance from Collingwood that they saw him as a long term player for them

Maybe Collingwood's been a bit surprised that DeGoey & Moore are staying put, and along with Grundy's deal from last year, they have a few players locked in on long deals & for a bit of money - seems there think Treloar is the expendable option from those earning the bigger bucks

Are Barwon Heads getting an AFL team. There’s being negative for negatives sake. He’s moving for Lifestyle reasons which every time I hear somebody speak about Cameron they bring up (his outdoor pursuits). If he wanted 950k he can now get it and stay at the Giants. Pride alone would not allow that I’m sure. If there was to be a twist that would be it. Haw or Ess fear campaigns are the stuff of April Fools jokes.

I guess that depends how highly you rate Menegola. Based on his form this year a round 1 pick and Menegola is higher than the Kelly picks. Giving away a known commodity is bigger than a pick.

I'm kind of surprised that gws are seriously trying to keep him. They have that many high end contracts their B graders are never going to get what they're worth. They want to fix retention they need to even out their payment structure

Yeah even round 1s have a high failure rate.

I will say though that my guy feel is that Menegola is going. He's coming off a year where he can name his price almost and plenty of clubs will pay it. Smith can hold down the for four a year or two while Clark works his way in. If losing Menegola means keeping Clark and potentially gaining a pick in the exchange, the overall trade gets Sam a big pay day then maybe it's the way to go. I still wouldn't push him out, but if he wants done coin it's not a bad way to support it

Well his last two years are in 2024 and 2025, under the current collective bargaining agreement the cap would have been 13.5 million in 2022, it went up 20% in the first year of the last agreement and increases by around 2% per year. So this would be a cap of around $16.5 Million in 2024 and $16.85 in 2025.
$1M in 2024 would be 800k today, not great but manageable.

But given that the cap is probably going down 30% next year, and given that contract was back loaded, he probably got offered some security to take the deal, switching a variable component to a fixed component, they are ****ed.

We have danger and Duncan signed up until 2024, I wonder what the deal is for them. I hope it is a fixed percentage of the cap.
