WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

I get the feeling we have grown a pair the last couple of years, being a bit more brutal, I like it.

as long as we remember that when we are like this ..it will not always land our way... take Ess as an example. Some deals will fall over. If we made it club policy to on trade for FA players 26 and under etc... and it is known and reported that players older than that we do not trade for ..especially if there is comp ..then all will know our approach, it may cost us players ... but it would be a start.

No contracted. On a1 year rookie spot
I might be totally wrong (not for the first time), but I thought it was suggested last year when that Brownless agreed to be delisted & re-rookied that there would have been an agreement on a 1-year contract extension as an acknowledgement/thanks for him doing so

A better version of the great Dean Cox.
just re-read this ... a BETTER version of dean COX. ?

How much do you know about him?

Checking footywire it says 2020 but wouldn't be the first time they got it wrong

Which ever way you cut it the 9 games Steven got this year have been wasted. No issue with him being traded in as you try these things, he did get fit originally and is a good player but after the “incident” and the fact he then came back so unfit after lockdown I’m not sure it was worth playing catch-up.

Fogerty, Narkle and Cocky were all overlooked for Stevens in his position.

Yep. It is not the actual cost of picking up these over 30s it is the opportunity cost which bites.

Glad the club is cutting Steven loose, best we just forget that ever happened. Jenkins next please. Hopefully we've learned a bit of a lesson there.

JJ is the insurance policy for Stanley/Fort/SavRat/Hawk.

But in saying that. SDK looks like a starting 22 player in 2021.
Add to that Jeremy Cameron.
Then add a BIG in the draft... Did someone say Shannon Neale??
Then he might make way.
Interesting times...

Yeah they stupidly played Jenkins as a ruck. If you are only carrying someone on the list as ruck in case of mass injuries (see Fort) then it is not outside the realms of possibility they move Fort on and keep Jenkins given the contract situation of both.

The club pecking order with ruckman would be Stanley > Blitz > Sav > Fort. If you get down to your 4th ruckman required you are cooked anyway.

Feel like we had a similar issue with Stanley (?) a year or 2 back - all available lists such as footywire & even an AFL list had the player as out of contract, but krock was adamant that were signed for the following year & their info proved right

It's a little frustrating that some of these things aren't clear or easy to find

If you're choosing one to keep as ruck coverage I'd keep the ruckman not the 3rd tall forward

If steven goes jenkins needs to if cameron comes. But we need to trade in a decent backup ruck though.
Who do you turn to? 🤔 McKerrnan, Martin for a year, Hickey, Vardy? They're not too many options available unless they turn to the state leagues.

Grumpy Wells,
Grumpy Wells,
Does the deals, no other man can,
Can he get, Cam-e-ron?
Yes he can, he's brill-i-ant,
Look out, here comes the grumpy Wells!

Preliminary negotiations begin for Cockatoo
By Peter Ryan
Geelong and the Brisbane Lions have begun to negotiate a deal that would see Nakia Cockatoo join the Lions in 2021 after an injury-riddled six seasons at the Cats.
Cockatoo has played just two games in the past three seasons for a total of 34 games with Geelong.

Preliminary discussions: [PLAYERCARD]Nakia Cockatoo[/PLAYERCARD].

Sources close to the preliminary discussions said the Lions, who hold picks 18, 19, 42 and 69 in this year's draft, thought a deal similar to the one struck when Lincoln McCarthy left Geelong for Brisbane at the end of 2018 would suffice.
In that deal, Geelong traded McCarthy and picks 54 and 57 in exchange for pick 42 and 60. But with a changed draft landscape the Cats think the 23-year-old Cockatoo, who was pick 10 in the 2014 national draft, commands a greater return and are prepared to wait to see what unfolds.
The Lions are a chance to gain picks in between their first two picks 18 and 19, and 42, during the trade period.

IF WE LET COCKY GO FOR A PICK OVER 50 WE ARE ******* NUTS REGARDLESS OF HIS HISTORY!!!!
Pretty simple, he protected his body in the second half of the year to gtee deal with the lions
so the club was paying him for his next role at a different club
if its for a pick in the 50s, he walks to the draft and i am over it
his attitude this year was 100% selfish and self preservation - no favours owed here

waste

Yeah agree, from memory he was touted as going to Brisbane before we had even finished our season, really selfish.

Contracts. It could come down to delisting Tarca to keep Fort and Jenkins. Or keeping Tarca and delisting Fort for example.
We'll see how it goes down by with list numbers being cut it'll likely be a free hit to cut contracts short and not count future years in the cap. Jenkins and Steven for us are pretty uncontroversial but the interesting one for me is whether that leaves a loophole for Sydney to pay out buddy outside the cap
