So we might be looking at Jack Henry's brother in the draft apparently... What do we know about him?

Handy HFF/HBF type , probably a more natural footballer than Jack ...... but how solid is this tad of info..and with what pick would we consider using him to get.... one phanom list I have seen had him at 12.. so he has talent.

OLIVER Henry hopes to join his brother Jack in the AFL ranks but his draft dream has been put on hold by the coronavirus.

Oliver Henry’s draft dream is on hold but the promising prospect has provided an insight into his determined mindset to reach the elite level.
There is no certainty AFL hopefuls will get to show their wares this year because of the pandemic, but Henry, 17, is trying to make the most of isolation.

The St Joseph’s College student said it was difficult to absorb the news that games had been suspended but was using the time to make sure he was in the best condition possible for a return.

“This whole period off is a test of everyone’s character to see what kind of motivated player they are,” Henry said.

“I think I’ve always been motivated outside of footy to keep fit.

“This kind of isn’t too much of a worry in terms of motivation to go and train because I do want to be the best player I can be.

“I’ve always wanted to get to the highest level and something like this isn’t going to test my motivation, but make me even hungrier for it.”

Henry was a part of a bumper Falcons crop predicted for 2020 and had been developing as a versatile player at both ends of the ground.

He was also a member of the Vic Country contingent selected in this year’s AFL Academy.

Stokes was talking up the doggies getting Jamara Ugle-Hagan as a total free hit from the NGA and the Doggies have put no work into him - yet the CATS indigenous pathways has been his development path since 2012 or 13 from what I remember him saying - but it’s wrong that they get a player that our pathway and developed has put a bunch of time and effort into only for him to get preselected because he comes from their NGA zone.

It’s good for the kids to have chances to make it ..

Then why did we put any effort into him if he’s available for someone else to select?

Pretty sure it was started before the NGA zones existed and he’s just stuck with us

Did stokes say this in an interview? Or was this a personal conversation? If it were an interview I’d be keen to read what was said.

Check out the to the final bell podcast on the GFC website.. it’s been in the last 3-4 episodes.. Not the current onE but the 2-3 before that.
He was not having a go at any players - more the system that dictates that Geelong has little to no chance of access to him irrespective of the time spent working with Geelong NGA programs.

That was a fantastic listen. You guys would have to be filthy missing out on the Warrnambool zone after holding it in recent years. And the fact you guys have put time into Jamarra since he was 12 just proves how farcical it is that the Bulldogs get him.

The bold encapsulates why NGA has a role ... I have no issue trying to reach out and develop kids out of the system,to develop chances for those who would miss out thru disadvanatge, players who would miss a chance probably fall outside of draft consideration but someone like JUH would have been picked once in the NAB L. Should players of his quality be tied to clubs, especially with such questionable contributions to their development? At the very least ..they should recieve NO discount to pick him. I have no issue if a Jr Grant or Johnson or Hawkins etc end up playing for the Dogs , its FS ..the link has been established... but some sort of roughed out allocation of a zone seems wrong , can you imagine the whinge engines rev meter if we got rights to a NGA kid in Footscray or Braybrook or Sunshine

Sam Menegola (Geelong)
A mid-season knee injury interrupted Menegola's campaign last year. He spent two weeks in the VFL after recovering, came back into the seniors for a fortnight, then was on the outside looking in for the final two rounds. Returned for finals but is a free agent this year.

So we might be looking at Jack Henry's brother in the draft apparently... What do we know about him?
Ollie will be at Geelong no matter where he is drafted. That's where he wants to play.

Any chance we can get our hands on Riley thillthorpe?? No idea if I spelt it remotely correct.

am keen for a key forward and two quality midfielders if possible early on.

Be very surprised , he has been mentioned as a top10 type.... although there are examples of tall players in previous drafts slipping thru.

It would be unlike Geelong to take a tall that early... they are more likely to trade for an in system guy like 2mp (imo), not as enthused with that but we really do not like the tactic drafting talls with early picks that take years to play

we traded in ottens for two first rounders. We also have had Hawkins around who is now about to depart in the next few years. Circumstances might change it.

There is also another mentioned with big wraps, I think something Baldwin??

otherwise I just hope we go mids as we have an empty cabinet of classy young mids

If he's good enough, why not.
However, who is the better player O Henry or T Bruhn?
What I was trying to say is, even if drafted by another club he won't be there long.

Serious gun who I have had a lot to do with. Absolutely ripping kid who is so well grounded. Has elite endurance and I actually think he is better as a ruckman where he spreads better than the mids. He doesnt like rucking though but will be a gun where ever. Can't see us getting any where near where he will be taken unfortunately

Oh for some kids. Not Oldies who want to come home

Menegola re-signed for 1 more year a few weeks ago..he is off that list.

Look I would say both SA clubs would be keen on him (Adelaide in particular) and I think you'd need a top 5 pick to get him but 4 picks in the first 2 rounds (obviously depends what picks we have post trade week) gives us the hand to trade up if we try to go that way.

I do agree with you though...key forwards and rucks have been a problem for us post Pods and Ottens and it's probably cost us at least one flag so if we can get an A grader in either position I'd be prepared to trade picks to get it done.
