Did we even have a pick available to select him? If so who did we pick instead?

Technically yes 26 where we took Parfitt Darcy went 38 then we took Stewart at 40.

Haha no i wish. Dont have anywhere near that wealth 🤣
maybe... but the footy acumen and knowledge base of the game, the club and rules is and always has been better than Dwayno :thumbsu:

FLAG CATSAYS CONSTABLE DESERVES SENIOR OPPORTUNITY

Premiership Cat Tom Lonergan believes out-of-favour midfielder Charlie Constable deserves an opportunity at AFL level following scintillating form in the VFL.

And Lonergan thinks if he doesn’t get a call up soon, rival clubs will be sniffing around to lure him at season’s end.

The 22-year old racked up a game-high 42 disposals in Geelong’s 75-point win over Essendon in the VFL on Friday night. He has strung an impressive patch of form together, gathering 32, 34, 33, 44 and 42 disposals from his last five games to take his season average to 33.

Constable has been restricted to just three senior appearances this year and stuck behind the likes of Cam Guthrie, Mitch Duncan, Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood and even Quinton Narkle in the midfield pecking order.

Speaking on Kayo’s VFL coverage of the Cats-Bombers VFL clash, Lonergan said that Constable “needs to play” at senior level – whether it’s at Geelong or a rival club.

“I personally thought he might have left last year (to) a team like a North Melbourne or even a Gold Coast – someone that needs a real inside mid. (An) Accumulator of the ball is exactly what Charlie Constable is,” Lonergan said.

“He’s a good decision maker, apparently he’s got very good leadership skills off the field as well, (he’s) very well liked amongst the playing group.

“He needs to play AFL, he’s clearly shown he can play really well at this level. (He) needs to get his opportunity.

“Unfortunately, as we’ve seen in Geelong for so long, you’ve got Duncan, and Selwood and Dangerfield and even Narkle in front of you at the moment. It makes it hard to get in. But I’m sure when he gets his opportunity he’ll take it.

“If it’s not to be for him at Geelong this year, I’m sure there’s other clubs out watching his performances.”

Constable has played 12 AFL games since making his debut in 2019.

Thanks bud thats very kind of you but my footy knowledge aint head and shoulders above everyone..some people on the board have way smarter and better perspectives than me hence i learn a lot from our community.

You're doing a better job than me considering the time difference over there im not sure even i could manage BF and watching games at 4am 🤣

He was pick 38 in the 2016 draft. We used our first (which was a traded pick with the Henderson trade) on Parfitt. Took Tom Stewart at pick 40. So we really didn’t have the opportunity to take him other than with our first which would have been a reach at the time.

All true... I would say that Darcy was someone we watched in the champs. Id have liked to have a chance to draft him. Thats they way it goes.. I dont think in draft trades were in then , so we would have had to have found another picks somewhere pre draft.

The true reason we probably didn't draft him was probably wrapped up in not drafting young rucks. We took Abbott as a mature late.

Why we did not draft Draper instead of Abbott is a debate. Id like to have him in hoops.

More and more I like what Knevitt might offer. 193 cm mid that has a sub 3.0 20M and can do a good 2K as well.

Calder Cannons 8.5 (53) d Geelong Falcons 7.8 (50)

Zac Taylor (Calder Cannons) 167 points

Josh Goater (Calder Cannons) 166 points

Mitchell Knevitt (Geelong Falcons) 151 points

Noah Gribble (Geelong Falcons) 145 points

Cooper Whyte (Geelong Falcons) 119 points

Recruiting Higgins and Jack Stevens in the pass is coming in haunting us, as they got games ahead of players like Constable Narkle etc

To a degree... thats the package when you bring in mature players. However ... I have little doubt if he was considered to be offering what the MC wanted , he would be playing now and have played enough to be a wanted player. Why was Holmes selected Fro night. That was not a night for a thin newbie. Constable to me is the nail on the coffin for guys who play well at the lower level but do not bring the track numbers. To me its mainly that they want more run. The post about what Close is doing in respect of running stats yet no mention of his footy stats said plenty to me. They bring in Smith and what he brings is another confirmation.

It's because our head coach has his favourites.
Eg Higgins isn't in our best 22
Esava form for 6 weeks, he should of been dropped..
You look at Luke Bevridge, that man I Really like, his got balls about him... he doesn't care what your name is, or who you are, if you don't perform back you go....
The reason why Fort never got a game this year ( yes I'm talking about Form ) he should of got a game..
And that goes with Constable as well

Every coach has his favourites. His time will come soon when they have Darcy and JUH and how to fit a square peg in a round hole. Why is Richards not being selected this year. To some degree when you bring in a player someone falls out, and Richards is a R1 picks like Clark. If Dunkley and Treloar were fit someone else would be missing out.

If one brings in Higgins, I suspect you have to back the play. If we draft a player thats less a burden to play them.

I can agree that at times players can be unlucky and over looked. If Constable does land elsewhere and become a player the club will be shown to have made a mistake. As it is debatable.

I have not felt more meh about losing a player than Constable. Felt more pain losing Vardy, Thurlow, even Lang at a pinch.

The questions I've asked and haven't been able to get an answer to, which surely shouldn't be a hard question to answer: "What's Constable's hurt factor?" & "What planning would opposition coaches put into him?"

I get that he can rack up the touches, especially at VFL level, but how damaging are his disposals:
- is he getting the ball to teammates on the outside or teammates closer to the contest?
- does he break away from the contest by putting on a step or a fend off & creating from there?
- what sort of link up play is he involved with
- what does he do when he doesn't have the ball, in terms of when teammates are in possession, when the opposition is in possession & when the ball is in dispute

I agree with you - if he's traded at seasons end then he's traded, so be it

Very different players. Constable is a straight up on baller. Not quite quick enough to play forward, where as Higgins can.

Dahl is fantastic value for his pressure but isnt elite everywhere else.

Higgins i agree but he will be gone in 2 years.

Close is very good and evans is a small forward and miers is best 22 easily.

Thats enough small forwards and they are easy to get late in the draft anyway.

We need to spend trade capital on the rucks its our obvious weakness.

The thing about Miers and Close is that they both have serious tanks. One minute close is in the backline the next he’s roving the fwdline.
