Not too interested in the U19 that were drafted. Anyone able to do a breakdown of which 2nd tiers players got the call up.

Sam durham from richmonds vfl got taken by essendon (pick before pies).

Carlton took mirkov a raw ruck from their vfl group and boyd who is a small from the bulldogs vfl side.

Parker ex saints small forward got re listed by richmond.

Giants took peatling from their vfl side ex academy a couple of years ago.

Eagles took connor west 22yo from the wafl-his dad played for them in the 90s.

Would still be draft tampering if he took a price lower then his announced priced especially if North asked about him. Just not from the club but him instead.

Doubt it happened but at the same time wouldn't surprise me with how things work in the AFL.

More and more Draftees are telling clubs stuff off i don't wanna go interstate/or play for you or i will leave asap etc.

If the AFL don't put a stop to it eventually players will just say i am going to whichever club they want no matter the pick they have.

The clubs and players don't have that flexibility

We have eleven players who will be 30 or older by the end of next year whose contracts end either 2021 or 2022, plus an additional four players in the same age range who are contracted in to 2023 or 2024:

Selwood (34 next year) - contracted until 2021
Stanley (32 next year) - contracted until 2021
Jenkins (33 next year) contracted until 2021
C.Guthrie (30 next year) contracted until 2021
Henderson (33 next year) - contracted until 2021
Rohan (31 next year) - contracted until 2022
Tuohy (33 next year) - contracted until 2022
Higgins (34 next year) - contracted until 2022
Hawkins (34 next year) - contracted until 2022
Dahlhaus (30 next year) - contracted until 2022
Smith (34 next year) - contracted until 2022
Menegola (30 next year) contracted until 2023
Blicavs (31 next year) - contracted until 2023
Duncan (31 next year) - contracted until 2024
Dangerfield (32 next year) - contracted until 2024

The difficult in terms of staggering departures is that we're short on obvious names (besides Jenkins) from the list above to retire or be delisted at the end of *this* season (i.e. Selwood is playing too well not to go around again, we need Hendo for structural reasons especially without a readymade replacement, and Dahlhaus still has a year to go on his contract so we're stuck with him even though he's been awful) so it's looking like it's going to be hard to avoid mass departures at the end of 2022 like you say.
Jeez, when you list it like that it looks heinous for 2023

I think for next year:

Selwood (34 next year) one more year
Stanley (32 next year) one more year
Jenkins (33 next year) not required
C.Guthrie (30 next year) 3 more years
Henderson (33 next year) one more year and replaced by SDK over the course of the season

Which means at the end of 2022 we'd need to replace:
Selwood (Stephens?)
Stanley (Fort/Blitz?)
Rohan (??)
Tuohy (??)
Higgins (Close/Evans/Miers)
Hawkins (Sav)
Dahlhaus (Close/Evans/Miers)
Smith (Clark)

I think we're very thin by 2023 but we'll probably add half a dozen 28 year old free agents too so there's that

Some good players who didnt get picked up in the mid season draft. A shame Geelong were not in a position to make a play

Cuthrie going to cost some big dollars, assuming he’s not overly nostalgic and got a good manager. You’d think he’s worth north of $700k pa. Henderson also going to jump you think, but age means we could safely offer just another year.
Joel one more year but comfortable with rest - ideally no more extensions for rest. Higgins a bit of a risk to end 2022 at his age, but otherwise okay.
Stanley might get an extension if we don’t somehow land Darcy or another genuine ruck.

Not too interested in the U19 that were drafted. Anyone able to do a breakdown of which 2nd tiers players got the call up.

Carlton - Alex Mirkov's a 22yr old 204cm ruckman from their VFL side.
Carlton - Jordan Boyd is a 23 year old 182cm utility from Footscray VFL, can kick a few goals.

Collingwood - Ash Johnson is 24yrs, been playing in the SANFL for Sturt. He's a 193cm medium forward, takes hangers.

GWS - James Peatling is a 21 year old small forward, I know nothing about him but they say he's a fast pressure forward.

Melbourne - Kyle Declase is a 24 year old (indigenous?) 195cm running defender from Werribee, big unit.

Richmond - Matthew Parker, previously on St Kilda's list. Exciting, inconsistent forward.

West Coast - Connor West is a 183cm 22 year old ball magnet midfielder from West Perth.

Dahlhaus is only 28 :( Even though he plays like he is 38...

Thanks for the specific detail, can't help but feel this is the place to find value at the moment. I feel that physical development is an underrated aspect compared to raw talent. Especially in those 16-22 spots in the 22, 3rd talls, outside runners and pressure forwards etc.

We're set for mature talent for now but were going to need to find the next Menegola and Stewart, getting these right are the equivalent of getting free late first rounders

Been thinking is probably more helpful to think of what we do have. What do we need to add to this list made entirely of players under 30 right now:

Close Sav Dahlhaus
Miers Cameron Rohan
Clark Parfitt Menegola
Atkins Kolo MOC
Stewart SDK Henry
Fort Guthrie Duncan
Simpson Narkle Bews Holmes

Others to consider: Stevens, Stephens, Kreuger, Evans, Zuthrie

A ruck, a kpd, two mids? Did I miss any?

A ruck ? What is Sav forward or ruck

2 or 3 to run thru the middle. At least 2 if Stephens is the biz. We still need to add some high end ball handling players. If Guthrie and Parfitt are the standard then we might find them with early r2 picks but development time would indicate we do not have 5 years. If not this year then FA's in the next two or three years is probably a must if we are to avoid limp mode.

Sav forward I think 2th ruck rotations.

I'm just saying that we don't have to find 10, we probably have to find 4. We can add that through trading over a year or two

I think this is a better strategy than looking at the very young on the list. It’s a pretty decent team depending on how some of those players develop. But there is enough there to add a couple of players and still be a finals team.
It shows how much Cameron changes things he’s a star that the forward line can be built around.

A better ruck would be ideal and more midfield talent. Darcy or someone who can consistently be the number 1 ruck for a period of time would be great.

Just what is the age these best performance from a player. Traditionally id have said 23-29 but maybe its stretching. Maybe you get to 31 but Id say its fair that most players are coming down from their best after 30 or so. So the best side under 30 is probably a good paradigm for seeing if we are too close to the edge. Slipping on the gravel at the edge of the cliff, it only take a little bit of bud luck and one doesn't have any rope room.

Id say best side under 28 probably shows how close we are to action required. Take Stewart, Cameron, Menegola, DHouse and our side looks very much about now, and not so much about 2023/2024.If we fail to attract mature FA or trade types and if our young players develop things could look dire soon.

Yet one can see just last year we are still attracting matures, and this year Henry has taken a step up. Is Narkle also ready to step up? Henry may soon be our best our backman. MOC transitions into the middle... things can look potentially bad yet change quickly.

The difference between success and failure can ride with having too many bad luck bad choices like Cockatoo or Hmac. Gravity is a weight on our heels We will need to find a couple of high level mid 20 type mids soon, last years adds are not like Danger when he came as far as longevity gos imo and are approaching the same list paradigm of when we added Danger. Whether we can add players like that, or have players pop on our list will probably affect if we ease off for a while or maintain our ability to float near the top.

Cats looking to sign.... Kyle Chalmers??

His father, Brett, played both SANFL & AFL

There's long been speculation around Kyle that he may one day look for a career in AFL, and thinking this may not be the first time he's spoken to those at the club

The following is from before the GC Commonwealth Games

“Going to an AFL grand final, which I’d never been to but was my dream; going around in the back of a car and meeting the Brownlow Medallist Patrick Dangerfield; speaking with guys that I’ve watched on TV — Sam Mitchell and Matthew Pavlich and Joel Selwood — it was just really surreal.

Only 22
Not 32
Noice

With the Tokyo Games around the corner, the 22-year-old is in top condition as he prepares for the Australian Swimming Trials this month, and has now reflected on 2020, a year where injury almost saw him go in an entirely new direction.

Another injured draftee....

Did he also have a heart condition or is that one of the other swimmers?

I presume we would like at it as a cheap chance Rookie B etc. 193cm ..Kolo height.. does he fit a need? What type of player would he be. No real information means one can't judge his worth.

Generally if you are over the 2M then the skills being required would be less, if he is appealing to the club it shows how much the aerobic capacity must play a role in recruitment
