Clark will definitely go IMO. He is under contract of course, but Kelly aside, historically we don't stand in the way of players wanting to move on, especially if it's for more opportunities. Kelly was a unique one as he was an absolute star for us, so Wells just had to dig his heels in there. But I don't think we will with Clark.
My gut feel is he will request a trade, not necessarily back to WA either. He could well go to a Melbourne club. IMO, he is no longer worth a first rounder (probably more a pick in the early to mid 20's), but given we hold the cards due to him being contracted, we will likely get a first rounder which will be a great outcome.
I'd like him to stay, but I won't be devastated if he leaves. There is a chance he may not be the player we thought he could be. His kicking and lack of defensive side to his game do concern me a bit.
Not a hope we get a first rounder.
We would have to have a reason to do it. We do not need another R2 pick this year Unless we get a best22 player of need , I dont see us trading him. he could hit form in his last year of contract etc. What we really need is an add that is best22 thats in his 22-26 range. Clark and Neale might get us Darcy type situation. Expensive type trade... but something like that could fit an immediate need or why else let him go.

Yeah unless it's upgrading one of our secondsNot a hope we get a first rounder.
I think 12 months ago Clark would have got close to Darcy but Darcys value is going up and up npw it would cost Clark plus a very good pick and thats saying something. But i agree unless we can get a player of need like Darcy id keep Clark.
I wouldn't like to lose Neale, think he has the potential to be Hawks' replacement long term.We are so leveraged into the next couple of years... a couple of players, even ones with great potential would have to be expendable... considering the fluidity of player movement. Once a player is not played, and they feel out of favour, some will prefer to move rather than knuckle down. A club can not hold players the way they used to , so if one spends an early pick ona player of long development , its quite a risk if they are away home base.
Take the Swans for example. They have recruited two players of admirable attraction of recent years. Logan McDonald (P4-2020) and Dylan Stephens (P5-2019)
Already there are suggestions that Stephens , who is OOC this year, may head home. What would he gather the Swans . Not P5. He has played on 12 games and probably is not ready yet but if he gets traded to a SA club good luck getting a R1. Maybe late if they are generous. McDonald, a KPF, who has played a few game this year would probably demand something reciprocal atm. I think talls , being a rarer article hold their value a little longer, and he had shown AFL form very early.
Darcy is probably the best fit. If he wants to come, and it will cost. 100% on his value.
We chose not to take a local in Darcy. Not obtain an extra pick and add him as a kid. It was all there to see in champs. If we want to develop like that , then eventually you pay the piper when your try to obtain him when he is young and ripe and ready to go. I think we have learned the lesson. We have taken three good talls recently but they are half a career out. Probably 3-5 years away from being a #1 ruck. We need a Pnp."If" Darcy wants to come back then next year would be the most advantageous trade time ..being OOC...but dare we wait another 12 months.
We do not even know if Darcy wants to vome back maybe he is happy , and if so then , its all just a trade exercise. If he wants us, and we want him them, the it will be a painful trade. A trade where they obvious get max value. Clark and our Fr1?
I hope it doesn't include Neale. He looks a player who will reward long term, perhaps not even as a ruck. There is something to be said for picking more local product for slow developing types. If we can not sign Neale for an extension this year, id have to consider what might happen down the track, and id have to consider that if we solve that role for several years for two components that are currently fringe , probably doable.
And if that happened , id look at a local option in the draft like Conway in the draft to develop for 3 years plus down the track.
Except Donkey SDK isn't a ruck. He's rightfully been pushed back into his natural position as a KPD in the VFL.I suspect that they won’t go for Darcy. They’ve drafted Dekoning and the giant basketballer, and have Fort on a 2 year deal. My guess is they’re gonna get games into Dekoning in the vfl this year and even next year, and 2023 he comes in as the number one ruckman for the next decade. If the giant basketballer comes up, that’s a bonus!

Conway played pretty well in that game against our VFL team.

I hope that isn’t the case. I don’t understand why we would trade out a talented young kid unless it would be to secure someone like Darcy. It won’t be too long before we lose a swathe of older players opening up a regular spot for him. I’d hope he’d be prepared to be patient though I could understand his frustration when Z.Guthrie is getting games in front of him.
ZG aside. I suspect the more talent the player, the higher the sense of self entitlement. I had to laugh at Marc Murphy's comments about being dropped.
Clark could be playing for several other clubs atm no doubt. If he was as highly rated as Jack Lukosius at draft he might have been playing for GC.
If we let him go early , I think it must be for something we feel is something we cant wait for.
Read this and thought “you’re about to be rucksplained that SDK didn’t play ruck as a junior so he’s not a ruck” and yep!I suspect that they won’t go for Darcy. I'm not sure that's the whole reason, though - it's not like there aren't young players being given opportunities. My real issue would be allowing a talented kid to move on for no other reason than opportunity. I just think we need to be working hard to make it clear to Clark that we see him having a long and prosperous future at Geelong.

SDK is a key defender. That's where he'll play for Geelong.I suspect that they won’t go for Darcy. They’ve drafted Dekoning and the giant basketballer, and have Fort on a 2 year deal. I think it’s far too early to say where SDK will end up playing. This season he has played everywhere and shown good signs. But dismissing him as a ruck because he didn’t play juniors there (as others have, not you) is, in my view, just nonsense. The earlier VFL games they seemed to be trying SDK in that Blicavs hybrid type role of wing/ruck and a bit of time up forward and while there wasn't negative reports on his game. But when he seems to have been at his best this season & where he seems to have got the biggest confidence boost from (based on match reports and commentary) is when he's been moved to the backline
They were also playing Neale down back during his VFL games and reports from those attending is that he didn't look as comfortable as it was a foreign position for him. With SDK moving down back in his last game, I wonder if when Neale returns to the VFL fold if they'd consider playing him further up the ground in that hybrid type role, getting him into the ruck and seeing how that goes for him if he's back in a more familiar role
