Dahl really is poor at everything. Close is not a natural forward as evidenced by his .9 goals per game average. Evans is a medium flanker rather than a small forward. Miers is the only player on the list who can play like a genuine small forward.
Close wasnt even a goal kicker in the SANFL Im not sure what people expected, hes clean below his knees and a pretty strong pressure player but hes never been a guy that hits the scoreboard.

Id play fort now for sure but im unsure he is up to it and after the last 10 years of ruck issues we've had we need a more bankable option than that. Gosh i do wish we had Darcy or someone of that ilk in tjat age bracket. I expect we will trade for a ruck this year we almost have to.
You raised good points PO in terms of our ruck position. The question is how much do you sacrifice in terms of picks or salary cap, to get in an A grade ruck. The ledger would need to be squared up somewhere. A good player may need to be traded etc...

Hang on, last year was a covid interrupted year for the VFL. Teams were arranging their own hit outs. Let's just be reasonable in our expectations. As for some of the negative comments on Close, I just can't fathom.
Yeah, they were reduced minute games and at lower intensity, but he was still trying to make his case for senior selection I'm competitive hit outs against players trying to break into their senior sides. If he had been injured then the detractors would be including that injury.

Anyone know if Jordan has acquired a nickname since he's been at the cats?
I thought Clarke was a nickname since it's not actually his name...

Would be shocked if we didn’t hit the trade table again.
Cunnington if he is gettable to return home I would offer one of our second rounders for.
Would slot in perfectly into our team
I think Cunnington would fit in our structures very well as a quick and easy replacement for Selwood. Though isnt he a FA now? or I assume he is contracted.

Are we at all linked to Meek? I don't think we are, even though he would be a decent gap fill and ready made to force into Best 22. I think Neale will be a better prospect longer term, but might need a few years of development, as most rucks do. Though I don't think Stanley is cooked, he could definitely go around for a few more years. Its just a question whether Meek would outperform Stanley. Then again, I don't think much of SavRat in the ruck, I think the experiment ain't going so well.

Freo wont let Meek go with how brittle Darcy is so Im not sure why thats even being discussed as a possibility.
Lloyd may want to have a say in that. Surely mr Preuss is the only AFL player aiming to be a long term twos player.

Freo like any club looses hand with uncontracted players. If Meek is not contracted and wants to move then he will. That doesn't mean he wants Geelong or we want him. Someone who is a second stringer at his club is a questionable standard. He is the right age, and he had been in the system long enough to be ready to go. That will not happen at Freo with Darcy in front of him.

Id say Cameron at Pies is showing more atm. but it depends on what we want and what we are prepared to pay. I doubt Meek would step in a become an instant Darcy for us but we do need to add someone , and someone his age and development would seem close to ideal.

Something else that *may* be influencing who the club chases is their bias towards flexibility. It feels we've moved away from picking "primary ruckmen", which you might label Stanley and Fort (despite Fort doing not too badly in the VFL as a resting forward). We all know how they love throwing Blicavs around the ground as a kind of fireman, while Sav's best has mostly been as a KPF (though obviously out of form in both roles right now).

So if Meek, Cameron, or anyone is "just a ruckman", we may not be interested. I hope I'm wrong - because it sounds dumb just typing it out - but looking at our ruck set-up for the past 5 or 6 weeks, it's one theory to why Ratugolea's been persisted with.

Not dumb at all. It must be a factor. My question is ..will the persistence with Sav reap awards. The flex idea is fair enough but if a player is good enough , one really only denies oneself the services of the best. Would we say Hawkins or Selwood are flex type players? Its about the quality as much as anything. Is a player like Meek good enough to break thru that to make him a must pick sole position player? I think Cameron has shown something around the ground and forward so 100% infelx.

What I think we like as much as flex is mobility. Blitz adds run to our mid group. If there was a ruck around who could run like Blitz , I suspect we would be after him hard. We appear to rate that far more than the bounce and the tap.

Moving on from Darcy. I think thats done now.

If Fort is not being offered a role in the side now ... then to me its like the club sees him as a listed VFL player. Thats fine but almost the waste of a list spot if we will always by pass him unless a catastrophe happens where we have half the list unavailable.

I dont see the ruck we a re linked to. Id say more often than not, by now , it starts to leak out who we might be linked to.

I don't think there is any doubt that they want an athletic ruckman. That has basically been the case since Hamish McIntosh / Dawson Simpson which has got to be like 3/4s of CS' reign now. I think it is the big reason we don't go in for the fringe rucks that do change clubs. They want more than just being competitive at the ball ups, which is fair enough, but if that is the position you have to wear it when we do get a torn a new one from the ruck which is regularly and not just scape goat Stanley every time.

Good point about the mobility. As much as we pot Blitz for his disposal, he seems a pretty unique player - not many ruckmen or KPD can work the ground like he does. I've got no idea about almost all the ruckmen outside the main ones for each team, but I'm guessing there wouldn't be many like him?

Cameron wouldn't be a bad get, but a different sort and I don't know if the Pies would let him go.

And your question about whether Meek - or anyone we could get our hands on - being a good enough sole position player is a great one, but on the evidence with Sav and the last several weeks, I'd almost turn it around. Can we afford to play a non-sole position player when they're doing not very much at all?

100%. You need the right type of athletic player and while Sav's OK in that respect, he's not a ruckman OR an around-the-ground type (at least not in current form). At some point you've got to bite the bullet and put someone who's in better form in, even if they don't tick all the boxes you want.

(Also, big Daws was never the same after that knee injury in 2013... just as it looked like he was hitting his straps.)
