Just saw YouTube clips of footy classified from earlier in the week which were interesting as were the below. Stay or go I am happy they are asking hard questions. Go cats

“I’m hearing and thinking what they’re going to do is look at Chris Scott and say, ‘OK, are you up for a rebuild?’ Do you see this as the way that we need to go, do you share our vision in what we believe we need to do?’,” Watson said. SEN

“I think Steve Hocking is 100 per cent putting his eyes over that whole organisation from top to bottom and that’s not just the footy side of it either.

“I think the whole football club is going to get a very thorough Steve Hocking makeover” Lyon SEN

The loss has left the Cats heading into what looks to be transitional off-season, with incoming CEO Steve Hocking having already "ruffled some feathers", according to The Age's AFL reporter, Caroline Wilson.

According to Wilson, there was "dissention" between Scott and his assistants as the 2011 premiership-winning coach clashed with two players-turned-coaches, Matthew Scarlett and Corey Enright.

What other position could we play Selwood? If we want to blend youth threw there ( like my man Constable 😎) what position could we play him?

Not really sure tbh. He's never really needed to prove himself in other positions due to being such a good inside mid from day one, so that's all I've ever seen him as.

I don't mind the suggestion of him heading forward to take Dahlhaus' role though. As above, he would command a lot more respect from defenders than Dahl ever has and his declining pace would be less of an issue there than in the guts. In fact Dahlhaus is probably even slower, and Selwood would be a clear upgrade in just about every other area - including goal kicking which was my main knock on Dahl.

What do you think?

Nothing good comes from shoe-horning blokes into the 22. Selwood is in the midfield rotation until others overtake him, at which point he's out of the side. Given we'll typically run 6-8 blokes through there, it's very hard to see him ever not being in our best 8 mids. He'll play there until he retires end of 2022.

Yeah, I agree with that but the question was what other position could Selwood play. He's such a pure midfielder I can't really see him anywhere else but I reckon he'd make a decent go of it up forward, even if it was only for brief periods to allow some of the younger guys a few more minutes in the guts.

Nathan Jones being compared to Joel Selwood is laughable full stop, Jones never tied his shoelaces as a player, one of the more average players to get to 300.
I find this a bit silly. Jones didn’t have Selwood’s talent, but was a very good player. Unlike Selwood, he got basically zero help from his teammates and was a lone hand throughout.

Scarlett reminds me of that 15 year old “mean girl” private school girl who has her little band of supporters and alienates the rest. If you dare challenge her, you are on the outer. Pathetic.

As much as we love him as a footballer - and for very good reasons - it's also true that after the 2006 review the majority of the playing group told him they hated him. So you want to accentuate his strengths and limit the weaknesses. If people don't like that work situation, well they have to look somewhere else sometimes.

Melbourne treated every Geelong footballer with contempt, with the exception of Dangerfield, so don’t single Selwood out. He was named Geelong’s 3rd best performed player behind Danger and Smith.

I just saw Selwood came 4th in the Geelong Board MVP in 2021. I guess we put that down to posters with no clue giving Selwood votes?

Put it down anyway you like, it's not my argument. My point was in September - under finals pressure - he was brutally exposed. That's what will always happen. Pretending he's still the same player is pure fantasy now.

If it’s true Scarlett and Jordan Clark had a big falling out, then maybe Clark May now stay

He isn’t the same player, no one is saying that, but he did have a pretty good year up until the last few weeks (unfortunately). I don’t believe it was no coincidence that the midfield structure was turned on its head when we lost our only two defensive mids in Parfitt and O’Connor either. Similar to how different the backline looked when it lost the only offensive defender amongst them too.

I never thought of that idea 🤔🤔 and I think your idea is not bad... I like it. Perfect idea

This bloke really impressed me in the few VFL games I saw this year. Deserves at least a rookie spot and would be an upgrade on Dahlhaus.

Being a full time AFL player I reckon this kid can make it.
His flashes of X factor in the vfl are exciting

If the club wanted to find another spot for Selwood in the team I have no doubt he’d play a good role just about anywhere on the ground except ruck.
Could he play a role forward to replace someone like Dahlhaus?
What about down back instead of Atkins?
He has the ability but more importantly the infield desire to hit contests and work hard. Where he plays next season is not going to define the teams success. But he could make one of those roles work.
Id really love to see them back in Constable, Narkle, Holmes and Parfitt to play a lot of games in the middle next season.

I could see at least one of the assistants being a recently retired player and that’s not a bad thing. Nathan Jones, Shaun Burgoyne, Eddie Betts or could even see Jenkins taking a role. I am keen for change and not promoting more mates of the club. But listening to the way Jenkins has worked with the young players and his attitude in the vfl I think he could make a good coach or development/welfare person at a club.
Do Not Want him at the club. No way.

Every time I watch the VFL he impresses me. How long has he been around for though, I feel like I have made a comment a Year on him for a while now.

Selwood situation is a funny one because he had really solid season, even a pretty great R23 against Melbourne, but though he managed to get ok numbers in the finals he was resoundingly beaten by his opponent at the stoppage, Boak got him, Petracca & Oliver got him even Ward got him (see 6:15 of the Semi highlights for a horrid example), as someone pointed out in an earlier post he actually might be in the top 3 centre bounce mids at the club but that’s an indictment on our midfield stocks more than a criticism of Joel.

I get the want to say “oh well we got beaten every where on the pack can’t just blame Joel” but we got beaten in the midfield first everything else is a domino effect from there.

I love Joel.

The anti-Selwood sentiment in here is bloody strange to me. I know he had a poor Preliminary Final (I was there, watching him turn over handballs all day), but the bloke averaged 23 disposals a game and finished as our second highest Brownlow vote getter.
He's absolutely still in our best starting midfield. If he starts to drop off, sure, but the assessment cant be made off of one or two games.

The whole midfield was destroyed... I don't understand the heat for Selwood...
