Selwood strikes me as the sort of guy who would be first to acknowledge he doesn’t deserve to be selected if his form was poor. He is also a bloody good leader at the club

He'd want to sign with the Dockers (McGowan is a Dockers fan even though he was raised in rugby league heartland) or else he won't even be allowed into WA. Victoria will go to Extreme Risk very shortly, it should have already happened, he's probably holding of until the gf is done with, once we go to Extreme Risk you pretty much can't get into WA. There are potentially 100s of WA residents with mortgages, families and jobs in WA who currently can't get back into WA, whose G2G Pass applications have been rejected multiple times. They're stuck on the east cost going bankrupt and out of their minds.

I understand that clearly you were just trying to have a jab at the WA government here, but you do understand that Clark is already in Perth? And has been for a month? Because that's where the football is.

The anti-Selwood sentiment in here is bloody strange to me. I know he had a poor Preliminary Final (I was there, watching him turn over handballs all day), but the bloke averaged 23 disposals a game and finished as our second highest Brownlow vote getter.
He's absolutely still in our best starting midfield. If he starts to drop off, sure, but the assessment cant be made off of one or two games.

Don’t strawman, almost nobody is being that harsh. I have not seen anyone calling for Tuohy, Hawk, Smith, Duncan or Guthrie to be shifted on.
You cannot strawman me and include the words 'almost nobody is being that harsh
In fact, you are then supporting my argument and it is not a fallacy. Lol

Absolutely it's a stab, McGowan is a cretin. Nothing about all the WA residents stuck in the east that can't get back?

I hope West Coast and Freo don't draft any players from either or NSW or Vic in November. They won't be allowed in to WA.

Yeah, gotta admit I called Selwood cooked based on his finals form, but on reflection he was actually pretty good for most of the year. Reminds me of Ablett in his second last year.

He's contracted for next year irrespective of any of our opinions, so he's obviously going to play. I think the most obvious difference is that he should be rested fairly often throughout the year - whether he wants to or not - to ensure he doesn't fall in a heap again come September (should we make finals).
I blame the club for that they said start of the year Selwood would miss games he missed 1 should have missed 6 and would have been at peak form..his last 6 games he was stuffed

Selwood has a year (maybe two) of David Mundy in him.

Will effectively be an online n field coach and he’ll find his spot - albeit will be rested and eased through.

Bigger issues to deal with - get the right assistants for C Scott - tweak game plan - draft what we need - get games into younger players - maintain a careful balance that still allows em to bank enough wins.

Unfortunately for Geelong we will have to wait for September next year to be judged. Although reading through the doom and gloom here you wouldn't think it. With our list we will play finals next season and with a good run of health should be right up there at the pointy end. But as previously stated we need some more spark in the midfield, an improved ruck threat, more run off half back and crumbers that are dangerous around goal. Some of this could happen internally with players we have and game plan changes as I don't think we have too many options for trades and free agents given our cap is reasonably tight.

Hendo, Dalhouse and Higgins need to be looked at as possible retirements with a payout required for the last two. If not, they are only played when they deserve a game and are told in no uncertain terms that 2022 will be more VFL time unless consistent form warrants it.

Selwood to play more forward than midfield. Need to open up the midfield for younger players that demand a spot. Reward performance and drop those not performing. No room for passengers. Need to draft more mids, preferably with leg speed.

Ruck needs to be sorted. If Kruger goes to the Pies then we need to enquire about Lynch. Otherwise Ladhams should be looked at. Stanley was better this year but just doesn't provide us with enough to be our guaranteed number one ruck. At the very least it provides him with some serious competition for the ruck. What happens with Sav? Is he a forward ruck or will he ever develop into a full time ruck? Still find it hard to work out why Fort was not given more of a chance. Seems the Lions might have a bit of interest in him. Maybe we could ask for one of their small forwards. McCarthy is exactly the type of player we need 😉.

Miers needs to stay closer to goal. Yes he has a massive tank but he's one of the few smalls on our list that is a goal kicking threat. Need to bring in another small forward with pace that hits the scoreboard.

Team balance in the back half. Two KPD, one being Blitz. Henry and Stewart can play on most talls anyway so there's no need to play 3 KPD. Opens the door for more run off half back which will in turn, improve our attack. For me this has really hurt us over the recent years.

Get some new eyes and thoughts in our coaching team. Consistent home and away success has not resulted in premiership glory. If we keep doing what hasn't worked expecting a different result, insanity has prevailed.

Selwood's 2021 was much better than his 2019 or 2020. People are talking about finals performances like we didn't get annihilated on every line in both losses

The comparison to Nathan Jones is a funny one. Selwood carried a team to top four finishes, Jones carried a team to wooden spoons. If Jones didn't play for Melbourne he wouldn't have gotten close to 300 games. Selwood has earned every one of his and will earn another 20 injury allowing.

I get what you are saying but there is another way to look at the Jones/Selwood comparison.
Joel is still a pivotal part of our MF whereas Jones is now somewhat redundant as the Dees have assembled an elite MF without him.
Both are legends of their Club but one has been made redundant thru succession planning and the other is trying his guts out but running on fumes at the business end of the season.

Nathan Jones being compared to Joel Selwood is laughable full stop, Jones never tied his shoelaces as a player, one of the more average players to get to 300.

Agree 1000%

It is absolutely laughable the writing off of Selwood - sure against the very elite and much younger midfielders like Petracca and Oliver he might find it hard going - but plenty of others would as well

Id play Joel on a hff - i can remember all those Haw wins of yesteryear - and how many time Joel went forward - and in one game he took a terrific mark - and Leigh Mathews said - great players just command the ball and thats it

And just on Mathews - he allways said when coaching - he much preferred and loved defenders who actually marked the ball - well there are plenty on this board who are singing the praises of Jack Henry - well id love him to mark the ball more often than that stupid sideways/backwards punch which can go anywhere - i wonder who taught him that

I agree totally on Fort. In form in the VFL and we play part time rucks in Sav (hopeless) and Blics (at least has a go), but not the specialist back up ruck who is only 28.

What other position could we play Selwood? If we want to blend youth threw there ( like my man Constable 😎) what position could we play him?

Respectfully disagree mate but it's not so much the player I was referring to - it was the succession plan both Clubs have in place.
Jones is no Selwood but he's had a bloody good career and has exited with dignity and grace.

Scarlett reminds me of that 15 year old “mean girl” private school girl who has her little band of supporters and alienates the rest. If you dare challenge her, you are on the outer. Pathetic.
His sister was that 15 year old mean girl I’m told. School bully 🤣🤣
