Article on Fox Footy about WCE:

West Coast will be without long-time footy boss Craig Vozzo for both the trade period and National Draft.

Vozzo, who has been at the Eagles since 2010 as a list manager and more recently GM of football, is on annual leave for the foreseeable future...

...“(List manager) Rohan O’Brien is taking the lead on list management and the draft as nearly all of our football staff are on leave.”

O’Brien, who has been with the club in a recruiting capacity for 30 years, was elevated from recruiter to list manager in February.

Vozzo’s absence is slightly unusual for a few reasons. An established and respected football administrator, he has played an active role in all off-season moves for players and coaches across a long period of time...

...Jarrod Brander’s future remains unclear. Although he has been linked to Geelong, there is no certainty the Cats will agree to trade for him, which could see him re-enter the draft or become a rookie option for clubs.

Would be disappointed if we gave up anything below pick 50 for brander.

A softish outside tall player that has no weapon. Not a contested mark or good kick. Would be akin to kolo on a wing. Would be terrible for Geelong. We need speedy evasive mids with good kicking skills.

For a rookie ok, but nothing more

SAM EDMUND'S TRADE UPDATE ON TWO LIKELY COLLINGWOOD RECRUITS, A FRINGE BLUE, JORDAN CLARK AND MORE

Nathan Kreuger (Geelong)

“He will go to Collingwood,” he said on SEN’s Crunch Time.

“(He’s played) two games in three seasons at Geelong, he turned down a two-year offer from the Cats and there was interest from the Saints as well.

“He wants to play forward and the Pies are keen to support Brody Mihocek and Darcy Cameron (in the forward line).

“It sounds like a three-year deal at the Pies so expect that one to be ticked off.”

Jordan Clark (Geelong)
“Some really important meeting are scheduled between him, his management and Geelong next week,” Edmund said.

“He’s a defender but the problem being is the Cats weren’t too keen on him playing at half back (this year).

“The Cats would’ve liked him to develop a harder edge, Matthew Scarlett was a factor in him not playing regular football and of course Scarlett has since left (the club).

“I’m told there’s a bit more to it, he is contracted and the Cats do not want to let him go.”

It’s a shame, but he is never getting in front of Cameron and Hawkins in 2022.

Nor Ratugolea

If we're playing 3 tall options I'd rather Kreuger alongside Hawkins & Cameron to Ratugolea or Rohan, as he understands playing as a forward and is surely a better kick to Ratugolea

If we're going to keep playing Rohan, rather than using him as a key target, I'd see if he can play smaller and crumbing at the feet of the taller guys and then applying pressure - maybe something similar to the pressure high half forward role we saw Dahlhaus trying to play this year, as Rohan has speed to apply pressure on the opposition but has also shown he can hit the scoreboard & kick longer than 30m

Praying we aren’t losing Jordan Clark. Obviously had some issues with Scarlett, but he is exactly what that backline needs. Would be abhorrent list management if we gave him up, contracted, for pick 26.
I know everyone in here wants quick fixes during free agency/draft, but unfortunately we just don’t have the capital or cap space. Smart list management would be to back in the list for another year, add some kids in the 2nd round, and add some youth to the 22.
Remembering the doom and gloom after the 2010 prelim. Match was over at half time, midfield looked slow, Ablett was our only shining light, and he leaves in the off-season. We had every chance then to blow the list up, but despite outside noise we stayed the course. All we added to our list was Billie Smedts, Cam Guthrie and James Podsiadly. We refreshed our 22 with kids who were already on our list, Duncan, Menzel and Christiansen. That, and tweaking our style rejuvenated our older players, who for most part looked cooked during that prelim.
Whilst Selwood has seen better days, the majority of our ‘older’ players still have great footy left in them. If we can’t be competitive with a nucleus of Danger, Guthrie, Duncan, Hawkins, Cameron, Stewart and Henry then something is wrong.
Hopefully, with all the announcements with assistant coaches, that is exactly what’s happening. Whilst the loss to the dees was as horrible as I’ve seen in the last decade, by no means is our list a spent force. That loss was the cumulative sum off all parts, mounting injuries, players carrying injuries, the virus that did or didn’t happen leading in, and meeting a red hot team.
Have faith cats fans, at least one more ride in this list yet.
Like to see the age demographic of our 2010 team vs what we have now.
I doubt whether they were as baked as current guys ( discounting the fact that they were also proven finals performers )

I’m not sold on Brander either, but if Krueger goes he might be a must have as a back up swing man if nothing else. As of right now he is a fair bit better than Krueger on exposed form, now that doesn’t mean he is going to end up better, but right now he is.

As much as I’m a fan of Freddie, 2 years was the right offer from us - he is still very raw and lacks the nouce to temper his bull at a gate disposition - Might take a long time to instil that.Shown susceptibility to injury as well - no guarantee to get the long run of games that he needs to develop.

If Lynch has some reasonable potential and is robust then would be a good swap - we’d probably have to throw in a round 2 pick as well, maybe.

We need tell Lynch we want him and offer him years eg 3 years plus.

Totally unsure if we are even talking to him..

Hes no getting games at Collingwood...unless inj hits .

If Kreuger wants to play forward and there's an option of him or Brander to play there then Kreuger out, Brander in is a win for us. As a defender Kreuger looks potentially useful but I think the club decided a long time ago he wasn't cutting it as a forward. Offer of two years is right for us (even generous) but if the Pies are offering him three then fair play to him.

I also have zero problem trading for Brander personally, especially since our best value picks tend to be later in the draft anyway. ~pick 35-40 for a former high draft pick with a bit of AFL experience is worth it. Big upside and potentially slightly smoothing out our list transition adding a guy going into his fifth season.

I really hope Wells and Hocking hold on to Clark.
He could be a real cog in keeping Geelong alive and enthused and energetic for 22.
If he gets a big run at it and we have success, he might stay too.
My guess is they will hold him if a round one pick isn't forthcoming.
Might try and get pick 6 for future round 1 and Clark, now Cerra going to Carlton

The problem is that if you don’t play Ratugolea, Blicavs has to ruck.

Q&A with Jon Ralph ahead of tonight's grand final:

Q: Hey Jon, what would Geelong get for Clark and Kreuger?
A: The price for Kreuger is really interesting. The Cats gave up pick pick 42 to Carlton for access to him when the AFL gave the Blues some pre-draft picks. They only played him twice, but have high hopes for him. So they will say they fully invested in him and want at least pick 42 in exchange. Collingwood will say you didn't play him, so how about a late throw-away pick. Surely they meet in the middle. As for Jordan Clark, he's a pick 15 who played 18 games in his first year and is contracted. I would think the Cats would want a pick inside 20, even though he hasn't set the world on fire. So the negotiations will be difficult for both players. The Cats have a trio of mid-30s picks so will want to strengthen their draft hand rather than add a couple of late picks.

The problem is that if you don’t play Ratugolea, Blicavs has to ruck.

But not sure we get enough from Ratugolea when he's playing up forward or in the ruck - think they've got to work out where they see him long term and really develop him in that role

Would be curious to see how we'd go if we gave SDK a run at FB, Kreuger as the third tall up forward and Blicavs as a floating utility between defence and ruck

The problem is that if you don’t play Ratugolea, Blicavs has to ruck.

Agreed..unless you bring in another pure ruck (eg lynch etc) and you use stanley as a fwd who then pinch hits as the 2nd ruck but it depends whether you want to ruck blitz or not. This is where ladhams would be ideal as he can probably fill either role.

I havent seen anything formal that says we want brander its mostly based on the fact that we tried to trade him in 2 years ago. Im sure we would offer say pick 52 or whatever late pick we get for kreuger if we want him.

Agreed. I think if kreuger wants to be a defender he should stay as we will give him games..if he wants to be a forward then coll can give him more opportunities than us. Brander would be a nice get if he is cheap he offers positional versatility.

Agreed..unless we can get a R1 for clark (which wr wont) id hold him as he has real talent. The issue is how determined he is to move and whether he threatens to sit the year out if we dont trade him. If he is willing to play for us id keep him.

Sounds pretty spot on to me. We won’t get what we ask so Collingwood’s future third for Krueger and a pick right at the start of the 2nd round approx 19-23 (which gets pushed back) for Clark.
