While I agree none of these trade options are likely to be in play, the rules around how many future picks you can trade and and how many 1st rd picks you must have use in 4(?) years aren’t set in concrete.
We can apply for an exemption and have done so in the past I think to complete the Tuohy trade.
The rules are there to stop mediocre clubs selling there future for a quick fix. If we bring in Bruhn, Henry (1st rounders themselves) & pick 7, all are 20 years old and under, IMO that would satisfy the AFL in allowing us to trade our future 1st if we wanted to.
Yes & no - there's currently provisions for clubs to apply for an exemption for the 2 x first round picks in 4 years, but not for the trading of future picks including a clubs future first & other future picks.

There's been more than a few discussions today regarding the restrictions on trading of future picks - this is one of the articles covering the issue:

CLUBS are looking to see if there are provisions within rules that could allow them to trade out their future first and second-round picks to unlock deals.

Under the AFL's rules, clubs can trade out a future first-round draft selection but if they do that, must retain the rest of their future selections for that draft. If they trade out a second, third or fourth-round future pick, they must hold their first-rounder for that year.

The League put in the proviso as a risk management move so that clubs can't trade away their full hand of selections.

However it is understood clubs are checking with the League to see if there are any means to permit extra picks being traded if it is for players who are fresh to the AFL system and close to draft age.

Exemptions are allowed in the AFL's rule for clubs using at least two first-round picks in a rolling four-year period if a recruiting target is of a certain age and experience as determined by the AFL.

For instance, West Coast is currently blocked from trading its No.2 pick under AFL rules because it has used only one first-round pick in the past four years, but the League would tick it off if the Eagles were trading it for Melbourne young star Luke Jackson.

If any provisions were permitted for more future selections being traded, it could help deliver trade outcomes for a number of clubs searching for extra draft chips to use in deals.

It could allow the Cats to use a future first-round selection to make a play for Collingwood's Ollie Henry if their traded-in pick No.25 from Brisbane isn't accepted. Under current rules Geelong wouldn't be able to use that pick as it sent a future second-round pick to Brisbane in Friday's pick swap and is also likely to send a future pick to Gold Coast in the Jack Bowes deal.

Port Adelaide has offered pick No.8 in this year's draft as well as a future first-round selection as the centrepiece to a three-way floated trade with West Coast and North Melbourne for Jason Horne-Francis and Junior Rioli.

Under the rules it would not currently be able to add any other future selections to the trade pie, with the Power also interested in Cats big man Esava Ratugolea. – Callum Twomey

Sooo are we not getting pick 7 now, have we brokered some other deal for Bowes?
We're actually now into the JHF stakes and are thinking of bringing Gary Ablett Snr out of retirement. Dusty has also been seen looking at a waterfront property in Torquay.

It's left field, but it's what we do.

Can Ollie Henry nominate for the National Draft rather than pre-season? If so, if Collingwood don't take 25 he simply nominates for ND and I doubt anyone uses a pick before 25 on him. Either way we get him for 25.

Yes. But Henry would have to be ok to go down that path.

I know he wants to come here, but it’s risky just leaving it to the draft and potentially ending up at a 3rd club. It’s unlikely another team takes him, but he’d have to be ok taking that chance.

I’d say far more likely Collingwood just accept 25, maybe with a sweetener.

Mack with a little driveby for Wright?

“Tanner is a very talented player, who will add to our midfield stocks while also having the versatility to play other positions.

“Tanner had a number of options available to him and we’ve been impressed with the way he has handled himself throughout this period and we’re looking forward to seeing him wearing the hoops in 2023.

“We thank Jason McCartney and the Giants for the respectful and positive discussions between our clubs.”

I'd say Henry would get to us with #25 in the ND.

Not that I think it will get to that stage.

Surely we haven't made that million-pick swap and used our F2 on a whim.

Will will get Henry.

My concern is how do we get Jhye Clark and also keep our F1.

It's looking unlikely now that we will have the ammo to move up from #7 without using our F1.

Hopefully the GC are gonna gift us once again.

Maybe Clark isn't gonna make it to #6 anyway and that current #5 won't even do it.

I kinda expect that we have something else up our sleeve if we really want him.

7 ...I thought we were getting 5

Id like to see the total of ins and out now that we have traded the Torquay front beach for P25 ;)

In terms of the main list, I think it will be

In:
  1. Pick 7
  2. Pick 58
  3. Bowes
  4. Bruhn
  5. Henry
  6. Close (upgrade)
  7. Atkins (upgrade)

Out:
  1. Selwood
  2. Higgins
  3. Dahlhaus
  4. Narkle
  5. Stevens
  6. Evans
  7. Simpson (shifted to rookie)
Maybe one more draft pick if Ratugolea is traded or we upgrade 58 in that deal and add Connor McKenna.

FR3…25 for Henry

Jesus Bigfooty going to be losing their ******* minds

Would be nice if some other teams turned up and did some trades.
If there was any other trade news then there wouldn’t be such focus on what we are doing.

Surely the pick swap with Brisbane would have had to have been predicated on an handshake understanding between us and Collingwood that they were going to accept that pick 25 for Henry? Seems a real gamble otherwise to make that swap on the basis that the Pies might agree that it's enough.
Thats exactly how I read the situation. No chance we do that without a concrete plan.

I hate it when Geelong becomes desperate and gives away future picks for a short term obsession. We've already given away next year's second and 4th round picks, now we're trying to give away next year's 1st round pick. We swapped No.38, 48 and 55, as well as future second - and fourth-round selections, to Brisbane in exchange for the sole pick No.25. Now considering giving 25 and next year's first round (18 at worst) for Ollie Henry. What a joke. Basically blowing an entire year of draft picks for a player who will be a top up player and may or may not ever get a game. Why have we become so desperate. Ollie Henry is nice to have if you can get him cheaply. otherwise forget about it.

Just get him to flunk his Hawthorn interview, everyone else does it
