Deals will fall. Discussions taking place to complete the finer details. But there are "in principle" agreements with respective clubs regarding trades for Bowes and Henry.

As was pointed out by someone earlier, Geelong weren't just doing the earlier pick swap and gaining Pick 25 for no reason. Deals will get done.

Clear pathway of what needed to be done following the meeting with the AFL (Ned Guy) to get everyone on the same page. Once that occurred it was transparent what next steps needed to look like.

Tell us you don't understand rules around trading future picks without telling us you don't understand rules on trading future picks (comments in italics & underlined):

- Stop trolling. It's going to be Pick 7 and Bowes for Pick 25.
Henry will be done for Cats future first.

- Can't be done for Geelong's future first - as they've traded their future 2nd to Brisbane as part of the pick swap for pick 25, their future first is now off the table

- But they will have Pick 7 which means what they've done with their future 2nd doesn't matter.

-
Except your original comment was about Geelong trading their future 1st to Collingwood for Henry
As Geelong has traded their future 2nd their currently unable to trade their future 1st for Henry
So not sure what pick 7 has to do with the Henry trade

- If Geelong hold Pick 7, they are free to trade out their future first to Pies. They wont need to worry about what seconds they've got.

🤦

GC finish bottom 3 and we win the flag it's essentially a swap of 3 spots. Plus we've gained Bowes and pick 7.
Gold Coast aren’t getting worse and Geelong can only go lower.

Paying a bloke so much and then only getting in 7 and 28ish for 12/13 is a pretty ordinary outcome for completely breaking our pay structure.

It’s looking like that’s all we can do which is very disappointing after getting everyone so pumped.

7 is a hugely valuable pick. Huge. Its a great result.

24 and 46 but he was contracted henry isnt.

25 and is fair for henry.

I think in general the club look at trade week a lot differently to the fans of the club.

In fact I think our club looks at trade week a bit differently to a lot of the other clubs, too.

Supporters are very much into 'winning' trade week and not losing face, + plenty of posturing into the mix too.

The club however seems to target the players they want and then do what it takes to get the deal done - sometimes they might pay ''overs'', but half the time these draft selections turn out to be absolutely worthless in retrospect - I remember gnashing my teeth over some young KD a few years ago that we missed out on (went to St Kilda iirc) - not sure the bloke ever played a game of senior footy in the end though (maybe Hugh something? Goddard?)

If the Oh Henry deal gets over the line, then we've added 3 young players with a decent amount of senior AFL experience under their belts already.
Perhaps it doesn't end up working out with all three of Bowes, Bruhn and Henry - but it's likely at least one will be a decent contributor.

Throw whoever we get at #7 into the mix and it's one of the best trade periods I can recall the club engaging in.

If it all blows up in our face, we have the recruiting nous and network to mine the Rookie draft as a back-up plan.

Personally I'd be a bit sad to see Ratugolea go but I can live with it (survived Greg Williams/Bernard Toohey/David Bolton leaving, survived Leigh Colbert and Gary Ablett jr leaving; Esava it was fun and good luck).

I've been as guilty of gnashing my teeth in frustration and whining about 'selling the farm' as anyone here; post-2022 flag however I am very comfortable with the whole thing.

Getting a Tom Hawkins replacement in a year or two will be the big one though; he is basically irreplaceable but we are very lucky to support a clever and resourceful club though; they'll come up with something.

Might as well ask Norf for 1 while we are at it.
Ned Guy: "Look Mack you'll need to at least give North a couple of first-round picks for the first overall."
Mack: "Best I can do is Simpson and a future 5th."
Ned Guys: "Sounds good send in the paperwork."

Entirely agree. Many of the clubs who despise us most have picks like this every other year. So it's only natural that some will think it's not that impressive for us to have picked it up.

For those with an eye to our history, though, it bears mentioning that this will be our first single-figure pick since 2006.

Geelong is cautiously optimistic it could have paved the way for deals that will secure Ollie Henry and Jack Bowes after a frantic day of movement that saw him seal a trade for GWS midfielder Tanner Bruhn.

On a day where the Cats officially dealt pick 18 to the Giants for Bruhn they also completed a pick swap that at least gives them a chance of securing Collingwood first-round pick Ollie Henry.

They traded picks 38, 48 and 55 as well as future second and fourth-rounders for Brisbane’s pick 25.

That No.25 selection could be on-traded to the Pies for Henry, who as a No.17 selection two years ago would deserve to be traded for a pick of that worth.

Collingwood has made clear that it wants a first-round selection for Henry, who has shown flashes of brilliance but wants to play alongside his brother Jack at the Cats.

But Geelong has struggled to secure a top-20 pick and believes that 25 is a fair trade for Henry.

The Cats accepted pick 22 for contracted No.15 draft selection Jordan Clark last year, with a swap of third and fourth-round picks.

They believe pick 25 for an uncontracted player is equitable, but are yet to receive assurances from Collingwood on that front.

Geelong and the Suns spoke to the AFL on Friday about structuring Bowes’ contract over four seasons, as revealed by the Herald Sun on Sunday.

The Suns had been keen to secure Geelong’s future second-round pick — now gone in that pick swap — but they may have to be content with a pick like Geelong’s future third-round selection.

I don't care about the picks they are just lottery tickets (outside the top ten).. I just want the players... We have pretty much sold the farm over the next two years, but we know what we are getting.

Took you two lines to succinctly sum up what I rambled on about over a 3 paragraph rant Tristan - I need your editor! ;)

Dont see how that gets done .

I mean its possible at 7 or early teens (we wont trade it back now but we might on the night if clark goes at 6)..hes a decent player.

After thinking about it for a bit, I now know why we at the very least traded our Future 2nd before the weekend was out. Now, Collingwood can't ask us for our Future 1st, because we literally can't do it.

I have no idea what's happening overall, but I get the feeling Mack and Wellsy do - and we're all going to be very happy come Wednesday night
