This says we were not in the mega trade..

Geelong was not involved in the talks, although Esava Ratugolea remains a trade target for the Power.

Id be putting Parfitt on the trade table 1st - a 1 paced shuffler who is lucky to kick 40 metres - and was not in the 23 if Holmes was available

And talking about Holmes - a few of the players were saying - we have to win it next year for Max - and i reckon a few of them would be saying the same about Sam - and i would be keeping Menengola - who can kick a football 55-60 metres - effortlessly and most times straight

what is your logic on Parfitt? He is the age we need to keep

I think this is the worst top 10 hell the worst draft i can remember, the u18 chaps i could not even watch a hole game this year, other than 3 players it's pot luck
It doesn't look a great draft tbh.

Esava Ratugolea playing alongside Aliir Aliir in defence could be a masterstroke by Port Adelaide.
That is a possibility, with Esava as a shutdown, straight lines type of defende, and Aliir doing all the intercept marking, but tbh, even shutdown defenders need high marking skills... and I think Esava is below average in most statistical categorieswell

Left field future option that the club would have at least spoken about.

Take Busslinger in the draft to play intercepting Key Back.
SDK turns into a gun forward.
That is probably worth a try, and there is no reason that Busslinger and SDK could work together, and use Kolo as third tall
Who on here thinks we will draft in Ted Clohesy?
I hope we do
I think he gets rookied.
Medium probability, most likely on the Rookie

Cats should pick up Tom Gillett, can sit in the vfl for 2 to 3 years, as like for like as Tom Hawkins as you will get
He's 193cm and looks more like Jack Aziz, rather than Tomahawk. Actually, his upside could be near Podsiadly if he works seriously on his fitness, so more like the No2 forward, but it can be hard for the no2 forward to be mainly a stay home forward I feel in the AFL. Tomahawk is a very big unit at 197cm and +100kgs, but his physique is a bit different with broader shoulders, thick arms and thighs, which makes him standout for power. Pretty much a rarer body type at that height I think in the AFL system these days. I mean he has the body that could enter strongman contests. Gillett might be carrying kgs around the waist, and less around the thighs and arms, so I am not sure he would have that same power physique, but he could become a power forward if he became super disciplined with power training.

Considering most KPDs are heading north of 195cm, and in SDK's case @ 204cm; these new breed ruckman size KPD's can rely on their reach in arm tussles to spoil these days. It's possible that Gillett is undersized if only 193cm in the strength tussles, but not always. I suspect Gillett's point of difference will be his physical strength and body positioning in the tussle against his opponent, but I don't think he has that same body frame that Tomahawk has, in the sense he is shorter and not as wide in the shoulders. I don't see any issues with playing in the VFL and training as a no2 forward though, alongside Neale as the no1. I see Neale as the Tomahawk replacement for now, but he needs to keep improving, time will tell.

Girl Why Dont We Have Both GIF

Because we are getting to the stage of floating on a plethera of inside mids.

How many can we absorb?

You can package it up any way you like mate - but he is a very ordinary kick - and he is not quick

One of the reasons Geelong are Premiers - is the improvement in some players

For example Atkins - there was very good improvement this season from him - he went past Parfitt - and 99.7% of Geel supporters would say that Atkins at this point in time is a better player than Parfitt

And if Geel are to continue to improve - im hoping this time next year a couple more players have gone past Parfitt - perhaps Cooper Stephens or maybe Dempsey

We just need as many options and variations as we can. As hard to know who will make it.

but agree we need to have more variation in height for midfield. Don’t forget Dempsey is still growing (late bloomer who grew 30cm in 18 months pre draft) so I wouldnt be surprised if he ends up 187/188. Question is how quickly he can get to 80kg and whether he is a half forward, wing or midfielder.

i have high hopes for Mitch if he can put on weight. Will be inside mid with good height.
What?

Ok... Mate.

So, you're saying Parfitt is the Geelong Taylor Adams?

I never buy the argument of a weak draft, plenty of potentially good players aren't even considered a part of the draft pool, Close wasn't, Dempsey wasn't.
Also understates the value of development, guys like Z.Guthrie added nothing to the perceived value of the draft pool. There were 100 guys like Brad Close around until we turned him into an AFL player, there are 100 guys like Z.Guthrie in the U18s each year until we nurtured him into an AFL player. There are probably 10-30 or so Menegola's Tim Kelly's and Tom Stewarts out there, and every team has in the 2nd tier has a Tom Atkins' or two.

There are probably a thousand or so people nominating. Good scouting will find the one that has the mindset to take advantage of the environment. List management is about about is about identifying the need the player is to fill if not now than in three years.

What does it say?
Says Port will need to get creative to get a deal done for Sav

So a Port Adelaide side already needing to find another quality pick to satisfy North Melbourne on the Jason Horne-Francis mega-trade cannot simply hope Geelong relents.
They will need their No. 33 selection for the Willie Rioli trade, under an AFL ruling they cannot trade their future second-rounder because their future first-rounders is committed to Horne-Francis.
So it might be time for tough calls.
If they want Ratugolea they might have to relent on trading one of the first-team players they are so far ruling out, including Josh Sinn, Xavier Duursma or Miles Bergman.
Aliir Aliir and McCartin were game-changers when inserted into that intercept role at their current teams and the yet Geelong didn’t get where they are by gifting players to rivals without fair compensation.

If you google some of the vic metro basketball stuff he was tiny (I mean really small as 16/17 yo)…mid150cm! I think a reason why Cats took a chance as they were amazed he could compete at that elite level with such a height disadvantage. He then grew year 11 and 12 from that to the 185cm he was listed at draft and I think they hope he may have a few more cm in him…who knows.

edit. This is one image I found. Ollie in the middle. Same age as everyone else but tiny….The person on far left is Marcus Winghager from St Kilda

Esava for Dursma sounds good to me, some good points made in the article.
I like Esava and it’s be sad to see him in another jumper. I don’t think we should let him go unless we are going to gain something from it.
As the article points out it’s hard to see a pick the power have that would make it worthwhile for Geelong.
Next year when he’s out of contract he will have either shown he can play that defensive role and get a new contract or won’t and we’d get nothing of value for him.
