Got to admit the Bowes trade is all that really matters. The pick 7 could be used this year or traded for a 1st round in next year's draft. We have the players to give it a real shake next year. I think we can get better still.

. Wanted out from Brisbane after two seasons, was originally #7, finished 4th in the Rising Star.

Brisbane said they wouldn’t trade him and he could try his luck in the ND or PSD.

As reported at the time, ‘the Lions take the view that second round picks would not be adequate compensation and that they have to make a stand in the long term interests of the club.’

On the final day of the trade period Brisbane accepted two second rounders. Surely we get a similar outcome here.

My gut feel is they think Ollie Dempsey might be better and more versatile player and they don’t feel a forward flanker is a need at the moment.

Across the league third/medium tall forward is not a key position that clubs pay heavily for in draft and trade they tend to spend more capital on midfielders. Even more in our case with an ageing midfield. Yes our rating of dempsey probably comes into it too but i simply think its the position he plays and thats why we have prioritised bruhn and bowes first. If we can get henry great but not at the expense of mids.

Plus a Cat B rookie spot free with Pauly T being let go

We have as of now 3 cat A rookie spots and 2 cat b rookie spots (tsapa and mullin)although one of the cat b spots will probably go to clohesy if he gets through the main draft.

I can't believe there is so much discussion on Henry ... future 1st .. pick 7 split .. now pick 33 / Sav! etc when it's really clear (and has been for some time IMO) what will happen.

Bowes (and salary) + P7 for Geelong F3 (and even that F3 is only because the AFL wanted something to go back .. GC never mentioned this originally). In addition, Mackie would not have traded out our F2 if he wasn't sure the F3 could be part of the deal. Overall we've played a blinder here having Bowes request us - and GC has done us a favour because by all accounts we would have been into Bowes anyway.

Henry for P25. This is happening all day long, it is not under or overs by a significant margin. It's about right for an OOC player, being 7 or so picks above the draft. This situation is never advantageous to the 'selling' club. Forget the noise, this gets done all day long. Maybe a junk pick with it. Collingwood would be mad to let him walk, they may think they are playing tough, but actually that is a reputation you don't want with players (even if the short-sighted fans like it) when trying to build a culture of people wanting your club.

Our F1 was always being retained was never going to be a part of any deal, we are keeping it for the deeper 2023 draft (hence happier to give 18 for Bruhn) and we never valued Henry at this.

This noise from Collingwood wanting F1 (which can't happen now), and even P7 is laughable, and just supporter talk. 25 + 33 (Sav) is overs and we have no reason to do that for an OOC player. Every example people bring up is a contracted player.

Any other possible outs are not part of our main strategy IMO (Rata, Stephens) but if it happens it happens.

My only question is .. how to we get TDK in and have three awesome sets of brothers at once

Realistically we are going to offer 25 plus maybe change this year (whatever we get for sav)and they will either accept it or risk him going to the draft. A future 1st i cant see happening given what we have already done.

Nic Natanui, Majak Daw and Esava Ratugolea. That's what I'm talking about. As rare as hens' teeth. Doesn't guarantee anything but the upside could be huge. If Sav goes to Port and becomes a weapon I'll be tuning in to watch. As some have said, maybe that's would be a good outcome.

Exactly, this trade period has absolutely elevated Esavas reputation, Port might pony up pick 33 but he is the second coming of Mathew Egan and we are getting done over.

It now goes Esava > Nic Nat > Daw.

I think he has potential, but on a list need’s basis I don’t think he’s a high priority. Mackie and co are of the same belief IMO.
I’d keep Sav tbh. Looking at our list, we lose Sav, who’s our backup KPD? I saw Hamling mentioned. Seriously? He is cooked.
If we have to get rid of Sav and p25 to get Henry it’s not worth it.

I think we underestimated Collingwood’s resolve a little. I actually think Geelong are being very unreasonable when it comes to Henry. But I clearly place a higher value on him than Geelong do.

I would have done either of our first round picks straight away. Not 7 but the other two.

Totally agree. He is a very talented player with that Henry attribute of fearless contested marking. He can win games. If will miss out on him this trade, I doubt he will seek us out again. I don't know why he is being categorised as a medium forward only. His attributes are transferrable to other positions.
Blake Hardwick was a star high marking small forward at Eastern Ranges, and now he has 2 x second B&F at Hawthorn as a lockdown and attacking small defender.
We should not question what they are doing, I know, but OH is the player of choice for me as well from that trio.

I'd be stunned if that eventuates. OHenry will turn out to be the superior player, almost certain of that. Rohan, Tuohy and Smith have very little shelf life left, and OH is more than a HFF.

I honestly think he would make it to 25. Coaches would veto their list managers bringing in a kid who clearly didn't want to be there.

You're adding a culture problem for the coach to manage on the assumption that you develop him and get a better pick for him than you direct on 12 months? There's a lot of risk.

For a throwaway pick maybe some would consider but pick 25 can land you a player. Why bring in a kid that won't be a player for you?

Hes had like 3 good games in defence...sure he might do a liam jones but he might also be delisted in 12mths...media is jumping the gun.

Fair enough. Hard to know what the thought process is behind it. It appears though that Mackie/Wells don’t value him as highly as others might as you say. Interesting to hear why.

For a start he is probably not best 22 for Cats next year. Probably a year to early, happy to take his this year and develop, but not at the cost. Is Geelong taking advantage a little because he is OOC sure, but everyone does that.
