That makes no sense because walter will get a 1st round bid at gc next year so our future 1st would get swallowed on a bid matcn anyway. And a late fr1 isnt actually much extra points for thrm if they have to give a fr2 3 and 4 back. I suppose we could do that deal with a club that isnt matchinf academy bids but not gc.
Yep, makes sense. North and Essendon likely the only option in the likely case GC don't want to gamble on next year's results.

Yep, anyone looking to replicate Blitz is going to have a bad time.

Just to start, you have to find a tough bastard with a huge frame and Olympic level endurance capabilities. Then teach him how to play ruck, wing, midfield and KPD.

Good luck with that.

100 kegs, 6 foot 6, constantly improving, can play basically every role on the field...if he was quick and could kick well - he'd be the most talented player in the AFL, IMO

its funny how in 2013 -2014 Blitz was laughed at as a running machine.... now hes lauded for it.

His running has not changed - his footy skills have gotten better - but its still the running people talk about.

Once again.. give blokes time....

At this stage everything I'm hearing points to Geelong trading into a better first round pick. No suggestion from anyone I've spoken with off a split with pick 7.

Not sure how they do it or what they have planned, but capitalising on having their best first round pick for a long time. Don't think they'd dilute that position.
It's strange because you'd just think if it was a possibility that we would have made it happen during the trade period with GC whilst we still could move players around as assets.

Go through the top 40 of the last 5 drafts and let me know how many KM actually got right, for someone who acts like they know everything he gets a hell of alot wrong, always felt there's far better draft analysis out there tbh.

He's a tough one to gauge. It's his job so we have to agknowlege that he knows more than any of us do...but if you look at his history he seems like the type of guy who wants to be a contrarian just for the sake of it.

There's always one every year (usually a mid) that is rated as a latter top 10 pick that KM has as the number one.

Remember him having Smith over Walsh in their draft year, which was stupid at the time and stupid now. Looks to be doing the same with Phillipou.

These guys have talent, no doubt about that...but they're not the best player in the draft.

Only way I can think of them doing it, within the current restrictions, is if the trade, say, 7 and FR1 to GC for 5 and one of each of their F2, F3 and F4. This may be better or worse for GC, as far as points go, depending on where the picks all finish next year, though they would have the power of another first rounder in further trades. They could also do the same with Essendon or North, but I don't think they have all of their F2-4's, not to say they couldn't acquire the missing ones in other deals if needed.
Very intriguing.

Won't happen.

Suns need points for their academy kids next year, they need a quantity of picks over quality.

Is he required at Geelong?

If we're going to throw the kitchen sink at a "name" player from another club I'm not convinced it's SDK despite the obvious link with his brother. Everything I've seen points to him being a ruckman who can go forward at times. Not a forward who occasionally plays in the ruck. So if that's the case, is TDK a priority if we're focusing on Conway with support from Stanley / Ceglar / Esava?

My bet is that he'll sign another contract with Carlton during the season as they'll want to lock him in. Also keep in mind that even though they've locked in Walsh, Curnow and McKay on hefty deals, they can also start to back end deals as all clubs know they'll have a larger cap and more cash once the next TV rights deal starts to kick in.

I'd gladly take TDK but not sure it will happen that easily.

TDK and Conway could set us up for 15 years though.

For a position that has been such a thorn in our side for the last 10 years it would be nice to have the alternative for an extended period.

I don't know why, but I just get the feeling Clark is a smokescreen. It just feels a little too obvious, and by the time the draft rolls around it'll have been 2+ months of every media outlet already referring to him as a Cats player in waiting.

If the rumours are true and we're looking to move up, something tells me it's someone else. I honestly don't really care who it is, as it's hard to go wrong that far up the order...but just interested to see WHO it is.

Sheezel feels very Wells to me, but no chance we'll be getting him even if we move up. On the contrary, Humphrey and Phillipou feel the opposite. Both have a bit of FIGJAM which I personally don't mind, but it's just never really been our thing.

Mackenzie feels right, but I don't think we'd need to trade up to get him unless he rises a bit between now and draft night.

Going up for wardlaw or sheezel would be amazing. Both have far better star quality compared to Clark imo

If he has a breakout year. Yes.
If he's same same. Pass.
Still wondering if he is a Ruckman, a CHF, a FF or a CHB.
Jack of all trades a master of none perhaps ??

If he has a break out year then Carlton would consider him untouchable and salary dump Williams or someone like that to keep him.

People are comparing him to Blicavs but I think Stanley might be more apt.

At some point TDK has to go from having all the attributes to become a player to actual turning that into output on the field. He has been on a list for a fair while now.

His best games this year came as a ruck who would stay on the move between CHB and CHF so if we took him It would have to be for the Stanley role in finals. Takes the ruck, drops to CHB and then sweeps forward. Which, to be fair this year at Carlton he was better at that than Stanley was for us.

But I just wonder if there are better rucks out there.

That said, being a jack of all trades is working out pretty well for Blicavs.

One of the things I love about Blicavs is he isn't afraid to use his left leg. He won a few clearances (one of not in the GF but did it in all finals) where he gets the ball, gets clear, and instead of cutting back onto his right which can waste time/set you up to be run down from behind he mashed it long and straight about 40-45m off the left peg.

So he is a running machine, can also tag, can ruck, can hit it off either leg, and this year won way more clearances than people realise.
Those clubs laughing in 13/14 look pretty ****ing dumb now scrambling for a Blicavs clone. Wonder what position our club revolutionises next?

Same problem, GC won't accept it as they don't need a Future 1st given Walter bid. They apparently might want to draft Jhye themselves, so that's another issue

They can always trade out the future 1st next year for a future 1st in 2024.

Maybe they will trade the future pick for a player. Maybe there kids won't perform as expected and drift out to the 2nd round. It's always good to have options.

I suppose, I just can't see it happening though. I also preface this with the face that I also don't see us landing Jhye either - and hope we keep the pick and choose McKenzie...but no idea at this stage what we'll do

Both will go to north and i cant see north trading down much as id love sheezel.

Clark/buss/mackenzie at 7 is most likely i think.

Have been told that the bulldogs are keen on Jhye Clark and have offered pick 11 and lions fr1 for pick 5 from suns.

Doesnt surprise me that dogs are keen but i dont think gc will take it. Futures are pointless to them at the top end given the bidding situation. Even 11 and 21 this year i dont think will do it for 5 but i could be wrong.
The dogs have more chance of getting say hawthorn to accept a deal like that than the suns.

Oh id love if GC take him, means we get him in 2 or 3 years and probably for pick 25 and a back of salt and vinegar chips.

Hard to say...what value put on retention.

GOLD COAST

Draft picks: 5, 45, 71, 74

List needs: Talented midfielder-forward

Who could be available at first pick: Reuben Ginbey, Bailey Humprey, Mattaes Phillipou

Who’s in the mix after that: Unknown

The Suns are on the hunt for a player at the top of the draft who has got the flexibility to play multiple positions, with big-bodied Western Australia midfielder Reuben Ginbey one such player who has caught their attention. Victorian midfielder-forward Bailey Humphrey could also fit the bill, as could South Australian goalkicking midfielder Mattaes Phillipou. The Suns have spoken to Ollie Hollands – the brother of Elijah Hollands – but he is not expected to command a top-10 pick. Gold Coast did have pick 7 as well, but gave that away to Geelong as part of the Jack Bowes trade which relieved some salary cap pressure. When pick 45 comes around it will be best available. Clubs only expect around 50 players to be selected in the national draft.

Latest word: Gold Coast loaded up on future picks in next year’s draft during the trade period in anticipation of some top Academy prospects coming through including Jed Walter, Jake Rogers, Ethan Read and Will Graham.
Surely the family name was changed from Gibney to Ginbey as a protest to prohibition.
