As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Carlton has entered the chat

TDK > Geelong
Sav > Port
Carlton > dunno let port figure it out/Georgiades

Maybe Georgiades would like to play for Carlton...

He's actually the type of player they could well use as the third tall behind Curnow & McKay. They've tried using Silvangi in that type of role, but not sure they get enough from him on a consistent basis

If Port value Esava as highly as reported, that could be a win-win-win.

Carlton would likely see TDK for Georgiades as a fair swap, and I’d certainly trade Esava for TDK if he wanted to leave.

I agree that would be a win win for all... Plus we keep our 1st round Pick (10-14?) in the draft.

TDK has only shown us a Stanley like sample... I think that might be his ceiling and if it is so be it.
He'll be a second foil for Toby Conway as he Toby is gonna be our 1st ruck for a decade if all goes to plan.

Like I said, nothing wrong with having differing perceptions, but it's the ability to consider other's perspectives that means you're being objective. Laugh reacting at posts and generally talking down to people because they disagree, is just getting caught up in the moment. My heated response probably wasn't much better either - but I think we're both just wanting each other to understand the opposing point of view.

With that said, you're not a poster I've ever had an issue with, so I think we both just got a bit heated based on how we perceive things.

Either way, call it a day and leave it there - and I genuinely do hope Sav proves me wrong, as I've been in the 'defend him' camp all season. Would love this to be a one off.

Too much BF for today, and think we're all a bit narky after last night. No hard feelings mate :)
You're right... please dont take things personally just a bit of passion seeping into my morning, yesterday.
No hard feelings at all. That goes for all those on here.
Love the views, perspectives and the argy bargy that goes on.
Beats fakebook supporter pages hands down.
Cheers Bud.

Whilst I’m not even Savs biggest fan. Gee wizz I’m glad some ppl in here aren’t coach. How many inside 50s did they get in the 1st half. How many ridiculously easy, chest to the goals, 30m last kick in did they get. It was completely ridiculous there for a period. World record pace.

The midfield in the first half were quite frankly disgraceful. Holmes 1, Stanley 1, Blitz 5, Atkins 6 and Danger 8. Mesmerising. They lifted but we should be looking squarely at that area of the ground.
How many times was Sav standing 15 metres off his opponent in no mans land, you can put the best midfield of all time in there it makes no difference to ineptitide defensively and Sav was exactly that.

True, that was the case Friday night.
But if you look back at his other games, it wasn't the case.
Let's not forget 2-3 months ago he played a couple ripping games were he did his job well.
As a Key back his journey is really in its infancy... Yes he is 24yo. That would be the only thing that grades him a bit harsher to being a 20yo big bloke.

He has always had no accountability for his opponent, people are blinded by a couple of decent intercept marks and somehow think hes suddenly the key defender prospect of the century, to be a defender you've got to actually defend not let your opponent kick a bag every 2nd week and have everyone say how good you are just because you reel in an intercept mark or two.

Go back and watch every game and count how many goals are from a Sav mistake, either by being completely out of position or going to ground way too easily, he needs to lift massively if he wants to be AFL standard in that position.

Don't think his contract would net us much compo

Sav? Look if port offer him say 600kpa over 3 years you would get band 3 at least (maybe band 2). But it doesnt matter as hes not FA anyway.

While i think silvagni will go (probably to the saints) and so will tdk carlton will be more focused on using their picks to get a backup ruck in (which they will need) and upgrade their small fwd stocks which are very average. With mckay and curnow another marking fwd for them (who cant ruck) is not needed.

Are the people you talk of... Scott Lapin Griggsy & Co. ??
Are they blinded?
As for bags?? Who kicked a bag on him? Tex?
But anyways...
We'll have to sit back and watch this unfold over the next month which will tell exactly where we and the club are at.
Until then we'll enjoy whatever comes our way.

People need to end this pipe dream of getting a good pick in a trade, it didnt happen when the guy was in contract its sure as shit not happening when hes out of contract, will be done for a nothing pick after a club just price us out financially.

Weiderman kicked 5 goals - he's kicked only 8 further goals in his 12 other games, including goalless in his last 5 games

Depends on what you classify as good pick or nothing pick. They offered us a mid 2nd (p33) last year and i agree we will only get about the same for a trade in him this year-an early 20s pick would be the dream..a mid to late 2nd is the likely outcome. Which to me is still not a 'nothing' pick.

It's certainly possible.

But if the best deal for us offer truly is a nothing pick then should have the gonads to just say no thanks and not make the trade.

Sure Sav can get to them via the PSD but clubs don't want to commit to a player and then not put their money where their mouth is and show him they want him bad enough to at least offer a fair trade.

A nothing pick is currently not a fair deal for a guy you are potentially offering 600/700k and not getting the trade done shows the player that the club only wants him on their terms (he can easily have second thoughts after seeing that).

The player/Sav could easily decide to stay with us and not put himself through the PSD stress, or even another club could chime in considering they will likely have a pick before Port and now only need to give up cap room for Sav (bonus for them, thanks Port for being tight).

Port can still lose this by not at least paying up something better than a nothing pick.

We can afford to risk missing out on a nothing pick for him and literally losing him for nothing.

We just need to not be soft and fold if we can't get a trade that helps us in any way.

Port want him, they need to make it happen, not only for themselves but also for the player they have clearly committed too.

I still think we salvage a pick in the 30s which would get used in a TDKS trade. Port can expect a player that suits their needs to a tee

I know there was media about a reported large offer for him but how credible is that?
It's a weird number up pull out of the hat if there's no whispers about it

If they said Port was offering $500k, then I'd be more inclined to think he's taking a guess as that would seem a more realistic option when trying to pry someone from another team

Is there a tension between Sav and Stewart?
Good question.

I think the opposition are putting a lot of work into Stewart, trying to make him accountable which is understandable of course. At the Melbourne game love you could see they were manning him with Smith and playing through him so that Stewart had accountability. This burnt us in the first half with Stewart trying to play off him.

I think the coaches like having Ratugolea because he can play a useful intercept role under the high balls when Stewart is being effectively thwarted. That emphasis is important. We saw that when Sydney refused to kick high balls in and played a leading game Ratugolea was all at sea. He just doesn’t have good enough game sense to get in the right spots like Stewart does.

So I don’t think it’s a tension as such that it’s an attempt at a solution that doesn’t work. We have had better success using others - ZGuth and J Henry in particular - in that loose man role in the past. I would go back to that formula.

I said at the time how worrying that was given Weideman is 🥔 personified.

I asked the question again on the possible GWS player and got nothing.

Either the club is being deliberately tight-lipped or they don't think they can get him.
if we start puling quality players year after the flag and make it 4-6th this year or better..... there will be Royal Commission, a Revolution and thermo nuclear events.

Im all for it - pass me my radiation suit. QC Wig and HK machine pistol lol

GO Catters

I said at the time how worrying that was given Weideman is 🥔 personified.

What Essendon did well with Weideman is similar to what Collingwood & Carlton both tried at times with McStay & the McKay/Curnow combo, was that they tried isolating Ratugolea deep where he was one-out with his opponent, and from the stands it was clear ER wasn't totally comfortable in that situation

Against Adelaide, where he did really well against Tex is that Tex liked playing further up the ground meaning he wasn't isolated close to goal. It allowed ER more freedom to go for his marks, and at times to even drop off Tex and just play the ball

If I'm the opposition coach and ER is lining up in defence, I'm instructing his direct opponent to stay deep and asking the other forwards to keep the space deep open so that it becomes harder for us to drop back in support of ER, and that if we do it likely means theirs open teammates
