Which to be fair is a silly comparison as two guys in a forward line who play entirely different roles.

It’s like the debate that happened in here a week ago about playing Neale vs playing Bowes or Clark I think it was.

Like Neale and those guys don’t play the same role. It’s just pointless haha

Sometimes such debates are not so much about like for like, but if you were to rob Peter to pay Paul which brings the most benefit to the team?

Not for everyone, but some people enjoy debating such hypotheticals.

When you have an entire forward line group of about 10 blokes trying to fit in 6 spots there’s no need to include other positions but I mean I guess if people like doing that all power to them lol

Like Foster vs Neale would be a much better debate like Gee Class Loco said

I should clarify my Dempsey or Ollie Henry hypothetical question.

Choose one to keep on the list from this very moment.

One must go… Who do you keep and why.

Dempsey or Henry?
Easy... Dempsey... in a canter. The Flemington straight.
The main reason. He has a heart much bigger than a pea.
And can play multiple positions and do much much more than mark and kick a goal which is pretty much OH gives ya.

For me Dempsey. With OH there are a few areas you'd say he still needs to work at - defensive pressure, endurance, playing "small" as well as tall. Even if he doesn't improve in those areas you'd say he'll be an exciting player for a long time but maybe not a complete player.
But with Dempsey really all the ingredients are already there. You only need some natural improvement in those areas with growing experience and putting on a bit of muscle and he looks like sky's the limit.

I listened to SEN on the way home from the game last night. The guy hosting who was at the game kept saying repeatedly if he was another club he would be chasing Holmes and offering $800k to $1m per year. I did not think his game last night was that good. Played ok. Started well, drifted out of it and then came again later. I think he has the potential to be elite but it is potential. I hope we can keep him.

The talks of JUH must all a dream... I haven't seen any news articles of him being linked to us.. I think its more of smoke in the regards that he was is our zone before it got shifted

Nup…don’t like that hypothetical….we all know that you need three Ollies…ohohoh. 😳

So I am ADDING Wiltchere and hearing nothing of it
How good would that be? Three excitement machines all in the same forward line, coincidentally all named Ollie!!

Serious credit to the club for what they've done with the forward line over the last 4-5 years.

To go from being so Hawkins centric, to options galore with even more developing at VFL level is a huge boost.

I’m a huge Dempsey fan, think he could be an elite forward/mid in a couple years and certainly a chance he could end up the better player.

But how anyone could say Dempsey over Henry at this stage is beyond me. One has had a 40 goal AFL season, one has had a single good AFL game.

Dempsey was brilliant. Difficult decisions for the MC! Probably ends up a decision between him and Rohan...

Yeah, exactly. O Henry was just outstanding last year.

Henry has obviously done more than Dempsey but Henry probably is a couple of years ahead of Dempsey in development.

Dempsey will probably have Henry covered in most facets of the game imo besides launching at marking contests…. and in saying that Dempsey also has that base covered.

It’s seems weird to choose a guy that was a rookie lister and not even a lock in the team a couple of weeks ago over a young gun forward that kicked 40+ in his third season.

… but I’d take Dempsey, the kid could be a freak in a few years.

Henry is a striker type for mine… he kicks a couple of goals but doesn’t do much else.

Hopefully both can explode for us.

Henry's got AA potential, Dempsey's got top 5 player in the competition potential, but for interesting reasons IMO.

It's weird seeing as they're basically the same height, and both forwards, but they're very different players.

As good as Henry is, and as good as I believe he will be, his style of player will never get the same plaudits that Dempsey's would if they both reach their potential.

For instance, guys like Gunston & Fritsch have been some of the most consistent players in the game for so long now. They just phone in 45+ goal years, but we rarely talk about it like it's a big deal.

That's going to be the reality for Henry, and we saw it last year. A kid kicking 40+ in his 3rd year is incredible....and it hardly warranted a mention.

The 'tweener' types just get dudded in that department, they're neither here nor there in the eyes of those who cover the game.

Dempsey on the other hand with his midfield potential will get those plaudits.

If he can become that goal kicking forward/mid, those players are worth their weight in gold, and are the players who attract the most attention even on their off days. It's one flash of brilliance and you're on social media all week.

Heeney, Petracca, JDG, Rozee Bolton...you get the idea.

Even Jake Stringer (who's hardly played a good game in 3 years) still gets talked up every pre-season.

It's just the way with those players, every club is looking for them, and they're going to get the notoriety if they show up.

OHenry has more stay at home potential, so I dont see the two Ollies playing the same role. As it stands I see OHenry has had more effect near goals in his 40 odd games ...does that change who knows. I see OH as so talented ..I just want him involved more, getting the ball more ..and when he gets it ..Id like him to strengthen his set shots. I dont see him as having payed that well agaisnt the Sainst and he still should have had three goals. When OD plays long term is probably more flexible. The great thing is we have both ..and both fit it the same side.

Looking forward to both the reading period and draft at the end of the season it seems pretty obvious that we will go heavy on mids.

You’d think we will definitely see Tuohy retire. Hawkins, Rohan and Stanley I think are likely. Then it comes down to delisting and trades after that. Parfitt is done.

I don’t see us purging too many others. We can stagger further retirements in Dangerfield, Duncan, C.Guthrie and Bews down the track.

Dumb question but is he really THAT good. He's not Buddy...
As good as buddy is his play style never converted to flags. I think JUH has every tool to be the dominant key forward in the game. Unlike Buddy he has an aerial game.

He is also improving rapidly. 18 goals in 2022 to 35 goals in 2023. He is tracking beautifully.
