Been reported that Sam Naismith is on the tigers radar.

I pose the question, who would you prefer.

Naismith or Lycett?

Both have massive question marks on durability.

Both 31

Naismith would still be in the system had he not done his knee again, we should have took him 6 months ago but Id much prefer him over Lycett.

Anyone have a list of mature aged rucks that are available

Yes albeit some clubs havent announced delistings yet
Lycett (if he doesnt retire)
Hayes (dfa)
Cam owen (sydney ruck)
Teakle
Stewart
Edwards

Plus naismith and a couple of other vfl rucks.
Some more rucks might fall off list at the next list lodgement

I could see us taking lycett as a dfa but if he retires we really have to grab hayes as a dfa for 12 months i think. The other option is to leave a couple of rookie spots open and trial several rucks during the SSP.

Naismith personally but either is a short term rental for 12months until either conway comes good or we target a top tier ruck in trade/FA.

From my PAFC insight - Lycett is cooked, Hayes is a space cadet, Teakle has terrible attitude/behavioural issues.

Tom Campbell and Mate Colina are other ruckmen out of contract.

Neither thanks.

If they are our only choices I would prefer to just cross our fingers that Stanley and Blicavs can stay injury free.

And people were taking the piss at me suggesting Conway would have no impact next year... Made it clear we need a ruck who can get on the field and compete and everyone stuck their head in the ground.
People are clearly bored in the off season and happy to make some fairly extreme assumptions.

Jeremy Cameron goes in for shoulder surgery and everyone's excited that he's getting it repaired ready for pre season.

Toby Conway goes in for a routine and pre planned procedure following previous surgery, and some in here are pulling out the gun ready to put the poor bloke out of his misery.

Crikey

The below is from Jay Clark today, this is the first I've heard of us being keen on anyone other than Sanders:

West Coast is very happy to take Tongala goal kicker Reid at pick one, leaving speedy playmaker Colby McKercher and outside midfielder Zane Duursma for North.

Hawthorn likes small forward Nick Watson and Western Bulldogs are eyeing gun midfielder Ryley Sanders, leaving star goal kicker Nate Caddy for Melbourne.

Highly-touted Western Australian key defender Daniel Curtin could slide to GWS Giants, although the Giants are well-stocked for key defenders, prompting clubs to eye a potential pick swap with GWS.

Geelong also likes 193cm Caddy, who can play forward and through the midfield, although he would have to slide to their chance after the Giants.

Why trade in a ruck when you can get a delisted free agent for free.
The word REASONABLE in the ruck statement should highlight the difference between who's delisted and those that need to be traded for.
The scrapheap is there for those who are... on the scrapheap lol.
I understand u might find that elusive diamond.
But they are like unicorns these days as everyone out there has had the microscope well and truly put on them.

I know it’s wrong to write off Conway but we don’t have a good history in getting injured players back on the track. Currently he’s in the Cockatoo and Linc Mac category.

Historically the taller players take longer to develop, either because it takes them longer to settle and find their spot in a team, or because their bodies take longer to develop and that can come with injuries early in careers. Tim English is a good example of this, where it took him a good 2-3 years to find consistent form at AFL level and was able to run out a season without injuries interrupting his continuity.

Conway will be the same, it will take him time. Im not doubting his ability, but we need to relax on the expectations while he is still developing. Thinking he is a chance to push Stanley out of the number 1 spot by the end of 2024 (as some here have suggested) is an example of putting way too much pressure on the kid.
TBH this is why I'd be ok with never drafting a ruck with a top 30 pick.

They take a long time to get good; a dominant ruck isn't a necessary as dominant players in other parts of the ground; given points 1 & 2 you can trade for a competent ruck with a mid-range pick and bypass the 5 year wait that would be required when drafting an 18yo anyway.

Campbell is getting signed (staggering really but anyway) as marshall backup and richmond i think will keep colina with soldo going.
This late in the year post trade period we can really only look at DFAs unless we take a state league ruck like naismith.

Would we consider picking up Toby McLean this year as a stable pony for Bailey Smith 2024? Not sure if they are good mates but could get in his ear and hopefully say good things about the club! Wouldn’t be the worst depth pick, and is more about attracting talent and not necessarily playing games.

I like your theory but a fit and firing McLean would get games in our side

The problem is the fit and firing part

or Zane Duursma.

If Duursma somehow got to us... I wonder what Ess would offer to get him. 8 for 9 and their Fr2?

The names of Duursma and McKercher being listed above as possible seems far too positive... McKercher has been top 5 since the champs.
