This is a worry.
After bringing in Bruhn/Clark/Bowes last year.
Knevitt Holmes previously along with Dempsey and Willis.
Makes me think that we aren't overly joyed with what we have.
Or we are not in the ball game on some potential free agents next year.
The likes of Bailey Smith? McCluggedge? Freo's Brayshaw?
Mmm... we'll know more on draft night.
I guess if Sanders is still there Mack might be a happy man after all.

Bruhn, Willis and Clark are the only ones you mentioned that are genuine mids.

The stadium would be delayed, but wouldn't the afl just introduce them to the comp and get them playing blundstone until it's built?
Nah apparently it was clear cut no stadium with a roof no team. State and Federal governments have more important issues than to throw a billion plus dollars on a 23,000 seat stadium in this current climate I would think.

Genuine or hi-bred or multi positional. They are all viewed and graded/valued the same in respect of what we have and what we need.

Not really. You could say Holmes is a mid, but most would say his best position is out on a wing. That distinction could be the difference between drafting Leake or Windsor.

Is Will Kelly from Collingwood any good. Has been troubled with injury and was highly rated in his draft year from memory.

Still no mention of Geelong being one of the interested teams

Lycett has passed multiple medical examinations from Victorian clubs including Melbourne, who instead decided to proceed with Brisbane tall Tom Fullarton.

Lycett told the Power he was likely to retire and he was delisted along with Power players including Orazio Fantasia, who will join Carlton on a two-year deal.

His management on Monday night was still attempting to get a concrete answer from the ruckman on his future as St Kilda led the pack of pursuers in Victoria.

He spent time in Perth for the wedding of one of his former Eagles teammates then flew overseas so is yet to make a definitive decision.

He had told the Power he was considering retirement in his exit interview.

St Kilda has ruck-forward Tom Campbell as Rowan Marshall’s back-up but would be keen to secure Lycett if he was prepared to sign a one-year deal.

Collingwood is also searching for ruck back-up, with the Roos backing in a Tristan Xerri-Callum Coleman-Jones combination and Richmond securing ex-Swan Sam Naismith.

Also, I personally wouldn't fund a stadium with a roof for Tassie in any climate. Surprised anyone in govt said yes

That requires money, even if the VFL's salary cap was 10 times higher, it still would not be enough. If the VFL could offer players a liveable wage, then you'd see the standard go through the roof. 800 players, Australia wide would cost in the ball park of $70 Million per year.
I think you miss read what I said.. im trying to get each AFL club just to have the chance of picking 1 player from there own VFL team at the end of the system ( if they are good enough) to get drafted without using a draft pick...

foxdog50 Hayes from Port delisted
Honestly his worth a chance as he would be a good 3rd place ruckman. His wage will be peanuts 🥜, as we 100% need a 3rd ruckman . Because we can't trust that both Stanley and Conway will both be fit for the whole season

1 Conway
2 Stanley ( Stanley will basically be our no 1 ruck )
3 Hayes

If we dont get Hayes, no big deal, but we 100% have to bring in some kind of state league ruckman.
And if Stanley retires end of 2024, than we bring in another kid from Under 18 level...

You agree?

My response related to the idea of incentivising a talented player from choosing a lower tier of football for higher match day payments.

I think giving clubs the ability to pull a player out of the draft pool goes against equalisation. Too easy to manipulate, player pulls out of the draft, then moves to their club of a choice after a year in the VFL.

Indication that they expect to use their 3 picks now. Trade with us less likely?

No because borlase was a cat b rookie (he just has to be promoted or delisted as he has done his max years as rookie hence they had to delist him and try to re rookie) it doesnt open up a senior spot. In fact with promoting murray they have one less senior list spot.

I don't think we have to draft a state league ruckman, and with the MSD there are fewer options. Having Ceglar on the list as backup was a waste of time - 9 games in two years. It's not worth drafting a bloke to just play 3-4 games a season.

There are quite a few decent ruck options in this year's draft - Edwards, Goad, Green, etc. They might not be plug-and-play, but they just need to be backup if Stanley AND Conway go down. And then they will likely be much better long-term prospects than a mature age pick up.

Also, if we draft someone like O'Sullivan or Curtin we'll have the KPD cover to be able to send Blicavs/SDK into the ruck.
